Brind'Amour: Give the organization credit for stepping up, now we've gotta fit these guys in
Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour spoke to the media about the organization's acquisitions at the trade deadlne
Quick thoughts on the additions. Yeah, I'm pretty excited. I mean, it's, uh, you know, and we don't really know how these days are gonna play out and normally that's not our, you know, moves to go get these guys. Um but, you know, give the organization credit for stepping up and now we just gotta fit these guys in and get them up to speed. So I think about this season being the one to do it. Uh No, I mean, I, I don't, I can't say, I mean, I think it's a lot of it is, you know, with, with gel for sure. I mean, that's just the top player and maybe you can, any team would have, I'm sure tried to get him and we were just the ones that were able to do it and then I think with, with Kuznets. So I just think it's a, it's an opportunity there and we know the talent um and hopefully we can bring it out. Um Do you have initial thoughts on where, where Jake fits in? I know you have options or I haven't even thought about it. I mean, you know, he's still not able to play. So, you know, we'll, we'll kind of figure that out as we go. You talk, I asked you this question from time to time about your unselfish bunch. Now they love to pass, but you could use a finisher and really kind of checks that box. Isn't that part of it? Well, I think the, the, the exciting part about a player like that. Yeah, you, you see that part of it but we, you know, you know, the character aspect and just the kind of person, you know, like it just fits everything that we always talk about. And so let's check, check, check, you know, and um kind of really excited to just see how you can fit in here and, and help us, you do have a conversation with, with Don saying, hey, we need a top guy like Jake to come in this year versus you said it's not really the type of the way the organization does this, we usually make the moves in the summer and then, you know, which is smart. I mean, you get a lot of time to work because it always takes time when you bring new people in and there's a adjustment period and you don't really have a lot of time. So, um but again, when you have special players that are out there, you're, you know, you bend the rules a little. If that's the correct Roy, there was quotes making the rounds from the 22 All Star game that you had nice things to say about it again. He had nice things to say about you. Does that make it? I mean, that makes an impression on you. It's interesting that you bring that up, but that is kind of true. I mean, you know, it's, it's, it's a fun event and all that. But you, you, you get to meet people that you would never meet and guys on other teams that you have never had a chance to probably interact with. And then when you do it, it can probably go one or two ways. Obviously, it went in a positive way. When I, when I met him, what kind of impression did Michael Bunting make on you? What did he mean to this organization? I thought he was, you know what? I thought he did a really good job. I thought he started to really come around. I think it took time like we talked about to figure out, ok, what, what's, what's expected and the way we want to play, it always takes an adjustment. I really thought he was, you know, playing well. And obviously that's, you have to give up something to, to get something and that's what happened in this situation. Chris was just really candid in there just about knowing that this is his last opportunity, maybe just giving his up and down, you know, a guy like that who comes in willing to just can maybe do whatever for this team, you know. Well, you hope though. So, I mean, I think, like I said, we know the talent and it's, it's there you now motivated player sometimes, you know, that's what you need. And, um, obviously that's what we're banking on is that he comes with that kind of attitude and he's willing to do what, uh we ask of him and I think that's where the fit comes. We gotta, we gotta figure it out. How much did, did demetri, you know, get in with you guys? I didn't really talk to him much about it. Um You know, I know Justin Williams had some input because he knows them. I mean, we, we definitely, you know, you're, you're checking the boxes on that uh uh uh kind of avenue. But I think at the end of the day, it's just when you have a talent that's sitting there out there and I don't know that, you know, we had to give up a ton to get it. It's just, you know, it's worth it when the owner in the GM or Mexican saying we're going all in this year, they had a little pressure to. What did they say that? Because they say that every year, I think what they did is pretty much, yeah, I mean, we made the mo an extra moves that we normally don't do. But I think every year we're, that's the mentality you relieved to just, I mean, I know we're not totally done yet but relieved to get past this and then back to main business. I, you know, it's not, it's certainly not as stressful for me as it is for, for those guys. I mean, I'm not getting traded, you know, or, or potential to that and that's, that's when we laugh about it, but it is serious business for a lot of guys. It is a stressful time and um I don't know what time it is now, but we think we, you know, you gotta get another hour or whatever and dodge the bullet and then, then we can take it off, take a sigh of relief and OK, here's our group, that's it. And let's move on it. It didn't dawn on me until now. But did Gle have input to uh everybody has, everybody that knows that anybody has input must put it that way. There's a little ripple effect with things like this. Not only the stress part, the part, the relief when guys come in because just talking to vet, he was saying he remembers watching who nuts off in his prime and he said I could, we could wake up today and meet. I mean, so a good thing happens in your room. That's more than just the acquisition of two players. Well, yeah, I mean, listen, everyone's all kumbaya now, right? And then we gotta go to get to work and, and there's gonna be, you know, guys having to move around a little and figure out the, how it all fits, right? And, and to, to, to do the ultimate thing, which is be the best team. I mean, that's what we're trying to do. So, um, but it, it, it's a positive day because I think it, it, we're, we got better, right? And that's what you want, you try to get, getting in tomorrow, you mentioned it a couple of times and there were 62 games of Michael Bunting. So as a coaching staff, what are some of the most challenging things? Knowing you only have 20 games in the regular season to get these guys up? That's the great question because it's, you know, everyone plays hockey and these guys have been pros but different systems different, you know, whatever different roles maybe. And now you're saying here's what you're gonna do. You gotta figure this out is how we do things, um, could be totally foreign to them, who knows? So that, that takes that an adjustment period as we've seen with most guys that have come in here. So hopefully because these guys are, are hockey guys are smart, they'll, they'll pick it up quickly and it's our job to make sure that it's an easy transition, you know, with some players, they have great regular seasons, don't get it done in the playoffs, they can do that. And I was just gonna say, I mean, these are the kind of guys, like I said, when they're out there, every team I'm sure was trying to figure out how to acquire. So, we were the lucky ones because he pretty good playoff player. Well, he's a good player, you know, and that's again, we got to get it out of both these guys and put them in situations that they can succeed in, in, in the framework of our group.
