Maryland transfer DB Corey Coley was enjoying being in some new threads own his first day of spring practice with NC State. Coley spoke to the media about his excitement to learn and grow in Coach Gibson's defense
What was it like for you getting out there for the first time? Uh It was great, you know, to get back out there on the green and move around and uh just be in some new threads. Like it was a great feeling. I loved it. What's been the base adjustment being in North Carolina? Uh I wouldn't say there's been like too much of an adjustment for the simple fact of, of the people that's around me. So like everything has been like easy as far as like my living situation, the defense, like it, i it really hasn't been too much of an adjustment. It feels like home. So, yeah, I mean, defense has been a calling card for this team for a long time and, and there have been a lot of guys that have come through this program, you know, what do you know, how are you, you know, step into that role? What are you taking that? Uh really just taking it day by day, uh and learning the defense, like one thing I realized being here is that like my coach doesn't just emphasize uh my position. He, he makes it where I need to know what everybody else is doing, which it hasn't been like asking me before. So just being able to know what everybody else is doing and which ultimately helps me. And so I know where my help is doing uh is, is that uh it helps me. So that's been love you uh all the time, like I was even out there out there. Uh just, you know, him being a guy that has made plays in the AC C like, so just being, having him on my side, being able to ask him questions, him, being able to ask me questions. It's, it's been, it's been lovely. I like him. He's very smart. Do you feel like there's pressure to live up to certain expectations that have been set by other guys uh in the uh not at all because I feel like the expectations on myself outweighs the expectations anybody else has on me. So like it's not, I don't, I don't feel any pressure. What are the expectations you put on yourself? Uh Really just to hold my own and lock down my side, do what's asked of me, be there for my teammates and just, you know, play my role when deciding to come here. What stood out to you though? Coach Gibson's defense that, you know, ball production, uh ball ball production, that's, that's like one thing I want to capitalize on this year is uh raising my ball production and, you know, him, even the guy he's coached in the past like ball production, he's, he's big on ball productions. Uh, and me being at Maryland, I actually play at, against AC C uh NC State in the AC C in the uh male bowl. So I was able to, like, see that, like, they play some good defense. So, yeah, I
