Carolina Hurricanes signed veteran forward, Jesper Fast, on Saturday to a three year deal. Fast joined the media on a zoom call Sunday morning from his home in Sweden to talk about what drew him to signing with the Canes
I had to talk with him and he'll not only good stuff to say. And then, of course, talking to Rod and Tom. They convince me they wanted me there. And in the end, it was, uh I'm really looking forward. Thio, get there and meet all the guys and everyone. So we're looking forward. Toa I talked to him after the playoffs. I mean have a good opportunity to getting back here more. When I was practicing with, I'm just kidding, but no bad blood, like I know him for many years and we're good friends. So no harm there. Prior to free agency, we meet us A staff, and we identified players that we think that into our system. You know, we play a very fast system, rod like toe, always be on the attack with the puck. And so you know, there's a lot of good players in free agency, but we look at more of what players can play the way we like to play. And desperate was one of the guys that we identified early. Um, and you know, as soon as we're able to we contacted his agent and started the process of acquiring them. Obviously. You know, these processes take some time. I know. Talking toe? Yes. For last night. It is long day and a half for him, and we were sitting here trying to do the same thing, that he was trying to make a decision. We were trying to make a deal with his agent. So, um, certainly it was a player that we identified prior to free agency that we wanted to go after. That's yes for his career. You know, last two years, being assistant captain in New York on when in the player's Player Award Players Player award, You know, that's voted by the players. And when you're voted one time, it za great feet, but to get voted five times in a row, you know that what he means to his teammates. And obviously we all talked to Brady. Ah, and Brady couldn't say enough good things about us for so e mean it was. It was a perfect fit for us. I mean, of course, it's always nice to have someone to lean on. And if you have questions like I said, I know him before, so but I feel like every locker room. It's the same. Like you, one of the guys pretty quick. So I'm just trying to be me and be a good good friend to everyone. And, uh, everything will work out good. Well, I mean, like you said, I'm from Nicholas, we which is a kind of a small town. And I mean living in New York for seven years. It's I'm in New York is a great Syria. I I loved my time there, but I feel like this would be a good fit. I feel like I like I talked Thio other people and Brady as well, like it's a of course, it's a slower tempo there, but I feel like it will fit me and my family really well. So I'm really looking forward to get there and find a place to live. And, yeah, have a good time there. Thanks. Of course, Waas pretty stressful. And like you said, uh, like I said before, I only played for one organization so far. So it's a new situation for me to be in, but it waas I was nervous, excited at the same time. But, uh, you know, you go, you waiting and you tryto figure out what was the best move for you. But I feel like I'm happy. Teoh get a chance to play for the Hurricanes, and I'm really looking forward to get there. So I'm just glad everything is over, and I can look forward to to sell myself in in Carolina. I mean, they were in the picture, but I feel like they they didn't show that they they wanted me back a smudge as, uh, Carolina wanted me there. So in the end, it was an easy decision. Yeah. No, we We've talked to both agents, and, you know, there's a lot going on right now between the draft and free agency. So the good thing is, we are talking and, you know, they have the right to file. Doesn't mean that they'll go to arbitration, but they do protect their rights. So, you know, our goal is still to try to get things worked out and avoid going arbitration, but yeah, nothing really to update as far as being a motion part of it
