German national team's Feli Rauch finds home at NC Courage
Felicitas 'Feli' Rauch talks about finding a home with the NC Courage and why she hopes her experiences in Europe will help the club.
How's North Carolina been so far? It's been great so far. Everyone is very welcoming. Um And it just feels like home from the first moment I've been here and like even looking out the window, it's a beautiful state as far as I can say. And I'm just very happy to be here. You've had a couple of good weather days for sure. Just, just wait until the bad weather starts, don't tell her. Um So, um, did you, did you visit North Carolina at all before you signed with the club? What's, what's kind of been your experience with this part of the country? Um To be honest, I haven't been here before. Um uh with national team. We've been like to Florida and some other states, but North Carolina is um, something I didn't know much about before. Um But that's the interesting part to get to know the people here, the country, the landscape. I heard you have like mountains, beaches, you have everything. So I think I'm going to feel very comfortable here. You sound like a classic North Carolinian already. So what was kind of your main thought process when signing with the club? What was the main motivating factor? Well, in Germany, I felt like I need a change. I'm going to go out of my comfort zone to make the next step develop. And I mean, like Europe is also a good station to play football, but in the US, it's great, everything is bigger and also the interest that the club showed really made the decision quite easy to come here and to make the experience, to learn from the girls. But also to bring in my experience and just everything convinced me about this club and the people here looking at that experience with your playing in Bundesliga, with Wolfsburg playing in the all that kind of stuff. What do you hope to bring to courage just from your experiences playing the sport? The football in Europe has very developed. We used to play in front of 60,000 people pretty regularly. So that's a good way. And I want to bring that experience here to just stay with you your mindset no matter what happens outside your box and just be focused, have fun with the girls and be successful. And yeah, but also learn from the girls because I haven't played in, in this league and I'm gonna make my first experiences and I'm looking forward to this. No, that was nice. Um I uh oh, good hands, good hands. Um So, um what were your, what did you know about NC Courage before signing with the club? What, what kind of, uh, you know, what, just a, as a, as someone who enjoys the sport, what was some, some things you knew about the club? Well, I knew they've been very successful in the past. Um, which is like a main part. I like winning mentality. I love playing football because it's fun, but I also want to get the most out of it and be successful and inspire people. And I feel like anti courage is really focused on the main things like why we started football to really have an impact and I really identify myself with the style I play and it's different compared to other teams, which is why I'm very happy to be here. Um What, what's kind of been your 1st 1st experiences with coach Nes? Just what, what did you learn from him? What, what, what are kind of the uh the impressions you get of him? Well, my first impression was like a video call with uh three of them. So, um it was very nice, very lovely. It was around Christmas and um they had like many charts and we were talking for like two hours and they just gave me a very good feeling and they really want to know where they want to go and they know what it is like what it takes to get there. And they just gave me a good feeling and I feel very appreciated, which is very lovely, but I want to pay that back. Where are you from? It's near Berlin, just right around the corner. Yeah. Not too far from it. And I think, um, my understanding is you were the first, uh, German national player to play for, um, what, what does that mean to you personally? To, to be able to kind of check that box and be the first year for the club? Well, for me as a person, it's really too important, like to inspire other people as well and to inspire maybe people in Europe to come to the yes and make a great experience. And that's for me very important to really give something to other people as well. And um I don't know, it just feels right to come here and to be here and just wanna have that feeling as long as as possible. Now, um this year in particular is gonna be a little bit challenging, obviously, because you've got club season, you got Olympics as a possibility, all of that kind of stuff. How do you balance that? How do you stay on top of everything and you know, keep yourself at the, the height of your ability? I don't know, I am a fan of flag, don't talk or don't think about too many things, just like also the travel to national team breaks. It's just part of the game kind of and just got to get used to it and just enjoy the moment. Get the most out of the moment because every day you can make a step forward and just focus on what you can actually focus and something else is just in the future and just really happy to be here and to work here with the girls. What's the thing about North Carolina? You're most excited to experience or something you really want to want to do while you're here. Of course, the landscape. I'm a beach person. I want to go to the beach. I can, I can do this and yeah, I just get to know the people, the culture. I have a feeling for the, for the towns, for the city, for Raleigh as well. And um yeah, just experience it all and I think you've kind of hit on this already, but what about your teammates so far? Stands out to you the most. Um It's just very open. Um I love them already and it's only my second day and just like everyone is so caring and welcoming and um driving me around because I don't have a car yet. It's just very nice and everyone's looking after me and it's just enjoyable.
