Adam Gold talks about how the Canes are getting consistent scoring from Jesperi Kotkaniemi this season. Those goals have propelled the Canes to find some momentum in the past several games.
That was a great way to end the road trip last night. A little mini three game road swing through the metropolitan division, Philadelphia, the Rangers then the Islanders Carolina claiming two of the three games. And honestly, they played well in all three, they probably played as well, maybe better in the Rangers game than they even did in the Islanders game. Although the difference was in the last 30 minutes against the Islanders. Carolina started to generate tons of scoring chances. It seemed inevitable, they score the goal midway through the second to get them on the board and then it was the third period onslaught, although it took more than half the period for Dmitry Orlov to finally get his first goal for the Hurricanes. And that gave Carolina just one goal needed. That came on the power play as Perry Co Gmi and by the way who had yes, Barry Kmi leading Carolina in scoring through a dozen games, five goals, seven assists and two of the biggest goals they've had in the early going, the goal that tied the game against Seattle about a week and a half ago back in PNC arena and the goal last night that tied the game sent, sent it into overtime and allowed Sebastian Aho to score his first goal in six games. He had six games without a goal but for the Hurricanes, they had not seen Ajo score in nine. Remember Sebastian missed three games with that upper body injury. Here's what the standings look like and it's not great for Carolina, but it's better than it could have been. Rangers lead the division. They have 17 points in 11 games. Carolina listed second because of total points, but they also have played more matches than anybody else. Carolina's got 14 points in 12 games. The Devils and the Islanders each have 13 points but only in 10 games effectively. Carolina's fourth in the division and would be the first wild card, but there's like 60 some odd games left to play. Carolina played nine of their 1st 12 games on the road. They'll be home to Buffalo on Tuesday. Then they're on the road at Florida and Tampa on the weekend and then they will play five straight at home and six of their next seven will be on home ice to close out the month of November. Sebastian, aho finally gets a goal still waiting on, on Andrei Sveshnikov first goal of the season, but I thought Andre was the best. He's been last night on the island. Um He had two beautiful assists. The second one was a thing of beauty that created the play for Komi to score his fifth goal that got the game tied. Uh So all in all Carolina looks like they're getting back to being Carolina not allowing the ton. That's good. And now starting to generate some offense against an Islanders team that doesn't generate a, doesn't allow you to generate a lot. So there were a lot of good signs on the entire road trip even though Carolina only went two and one. So until then, uh, until we talk again after the Buffalo Sabers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers all fall to the mighty hurricanes. Uh We'll see you down the road.
