Everybody likes time off, especially on a holiday weekend. But man, I kind of wish I was getting ready for a game six in Florida today. Hurricane season of course came to an end on Wednesday, another very difficult bitter pill to swallow type of a defeat 4.9 seconds left on a power play that was probably not worth the penalty with a minute to go in a game four of an Eastern conference final with one team facing elimination. I don't think I'm being a homer here. I think most people thought that was a pretty weak call. Was it callable? Yes, in February in the second period. Absolutely. One minute to go in game four with the team down three. Nothing in the series. You call that. Hm. Very, very shaky, especially since a minute prior, Brett Pesci was just trucked behind the net from behind by Anthony Duclair and because the puck was sort of in the area, Brett had just gotten rid of it. They let the play go. I don't know. Anyway, no sense, cried about it. The Hurricanes lost the series because they lost the big moments in the series. Um, could Carolina have won every game. Yes, but Florida was just a little bit tougher, a little bit meaner. A little bit more opportunistic than Carolina. Let's just make this one point clear with no Andres took off and no max patch here in the series and just coming back from the injury and he really wasn't good for the most part until game four. That isn't the reason why the Hurricanes did not win the series. They had more than their fair share of chances to score goals. Set Jarvis off the crossbar in game one in the first overtime on the power play by the way, where if that puck goes in, if it goes, instead of bar out, if it goes bar down and in, I mean, who knows what happens when, if the Hurricanes win game one in the series, they might have won game two, they might have, it might have snowballed their own momentum, no idea, but it didn't happen that way. Frederick Anderson was amazing. And now there's a question. Well, do they big bring Freddie back? What about anti Ranta who was also great in the playoffs? Um, given the two, I think there's probably a better chance than Ranta is back, but it all depends on what these guys are asking for, how long the contract is and what their plans are for Pio Kako. Do they believe he can be a number one goalie next year? I think at Best Peter is probably part of the tandem, is Freddie going to be part of the tandem. I don't know, but because Kakos ultimate salary is low, it could allow them to bring back Anderson on a one or two year deal based on the same money, maybe even a shade less. But it all depends on what's out there for. Anderson. Freddie was certainly spectacular in the postseason. So there's that there's also pending free agents, Jordan Stall and yes, Perot unrestricted free agents and of all the unrestricted free agents that Carolina has and there are a few to me, those two guys are must returns. Jordan stall isn't going to play anywhere else. So that's an easy one. But yes, per I think two months ago, maybe Carolina was thinking, yeah, maybe we could just let him go, but I don't believe he can, I think, yes, Perot has to be part of this team next year. I assume he will be because I don't think it's going to break anybody's bank bringing back fast on a two year deal worth basically about the same money, maybe a shade more, which was only two million a year on a three year deal initially. So you've got that and then there's some other business to attend to. What do you do about contracts that are coming up? Not this year, but next year and the Hurricanes are loaded with all that stuff. Uh, Jarvis Chatfield, Nason Pesci. She, I mean, there's tons of contracts that are due at the end of the following season. Some of that business you probably need to get done now. And if I were Tom Dunton and Don and Eric Tusky and all of that A would be get, would get done this summer. Chatfield would get done this summer. Those two and I would try to get Jarvis done this summer. That's the business ahead. As for what I think Carolina needs Carolina needs a center to play either as a one or a two C A is the one, but I wouldn't be averse to finding somebody who could challenge for. That doesn't make a difference. A is your best overall player, your best overall forward anyway. So you need to have some cover for that. You need to have somebody about as good as a playing your second center because right now, yes, Barry Coy is probably better suited to be a third center in Georgia. Stall and Foss and Martin could become your identity line like the Islanders have one in New York. That could be Carolina's identity line. No, no less important, but maybe they play fewer minutes. Just a thought as we move into the summer with the draft coming up next month and then free agency to start a few days later. Until then, man, I wish I had hockey to watch instead. I don't know, I'll garden something like that.
