Adam Gold talks about why the Canes have been playing so well as they head into the All-Star break. Carolina trails New York by just two points in the Metro Division.
It's been a good stretch for the fellow, hasn't it? Hurricanes have won three in a row heading into the all star break. They're off for 10 days, but it's beyond just three wins in a row. And by the way, last night against Arizona, you can't have a more dominant third period than the Hurricanes did. They outshot the Coyotes 18 to zero, zero, no shots on goal for the Coyotes in the final 20 minutes. In fact, Jason Zucker's shot on goal. Good chance that anti Ranta gloved down with about four minutes to go in the second period. That was the last shot on goal for the Coyotes in the game. Anti Ranta didn't have to be great. He was good. Didn't have to be great. Uh, he only had to make 10 saves as the Hurricanes outshot them. What, 39 to 11, but it was the third straight win. But let's go back to Christmas Carolina came out of the break and they got on a run 11 2 and one since Santa Claus and going back to the game at Ottawa, they closed a six game. Western Canadian started road trip with games in Ottawa and Detroit Hurricanes won both of those games and the Canes are 14, 3 and four in their last 21 games. And what it means is a deficit in the metropolitan division that at one point was approaching double digits is now just two Carolina with 61 points, two points behind the Rangers and the Hurricanes have a game in hand and they've created separation with the Flyers beneath them and teams like the Islanders who have fallen on hard times, they made a coaching change something you won't see Carolina do anytime soon because Rod Brindamour is one of the best that there is in the league and he continues to do that and Carolina has overcome their own adversity this year. How about the goaltending job done by Spencer Martin in Boston on Wednesday night, Hurricanes have actually used five different goalies this year. I know Janie Peretz only saw one shot but he played. So they've already used five goalies. But let's be honest, the Hurricanes are where they are because their team defense has been outstanding. Sebastian Au is playing like an all star. Hence he'll be in Toronto next weekend. He's got 33 points in the, in this 21 game span, Seth Jarvis in this 21 game span, 19 points, a couple of assists last night against Arizona. So Carolina is getting their offense going at some point. Maybe they'll even get a long run of games with Andrei Svet still in the lineup ve who missed the first eight games. Coming back from his torn AC L has been out of the lineup for two separate upper body injuries and hopefully he'll come back by the way. Speaking of coming back from injuries, Martine Naches since he came back from his upper body injury, four goals in five games and he's playing like the player, Carolina needs him to be. It's not all flash, it's also making smart plays because when he plays the game intelligently, his talent is overwhelming. So Carolina has had a lot of good performances. And how about Dmitri Orlov's goal against Arizona? I still don't know how it found the net, the, the camera angle from behind the shot. I didn't even see the goal. I didn't, I don't know how it went in but you know, Carolina needed a break. I guess they got one. The break was an amazing shot that gave them the lead and then yes, for FO T went on. So Hurricanes off for 10 days, they'll come back Tuesday, February 6th at home against Vancouver, Vancouver, Colorado New Jersey. That'll be Whaler's night by the way against the Devils. So, uh, take, get a little rest. We'll see everybody a week from Tuesday. All right. Fair.
