If you thought that the Carolina Hurricanes were gonna save the triangle from a disastrous sports weekend. Sadly, it did not happen. The Hurricanes lost 64 in Colorado. They have now lost three of their last four games. They are three and three on the season. So it's not a tragic situation and five of these six games have been played away from the NC arena. So that's ok. But what isn't ok is how they are three and three on the season. If I had told you before the year started, that the Hurricanes would be averaging nearly five goals a game. That's right. Nearly five goals a game. You would have thought, man, the canes must be laying waste to these teams. How much fun are we having at six and? Oh, well, here's the problem. The Hurricanes have allowed 30 goals in five in six games, 30 goals in six games. It's an average of five per night. That is not a recipe for doing anything but losing. It's a miracle that the Hurricanes actually have three wins. If you think about it, here is the culprit, primarily, there's a lot of culprits, not everybody is playing well, especially defensively. Obviously, the goaltending has not been spectacular. Obviously, the penalty kill has been atrocious last year, Carolina after a little bit of a slow start was second in the NHL on the penalty kill at 84.4%. After killing off their first six penalties. This year, the Hurricanes have allowed nine goals in the next 22 power play tries. Four of the six games that Carolina has played this year. They have allowed multiple power play goals three last night to the avalanche. If that doesn't change, Carolina is gonna have a hard time winning enough games to make the playoffs. Yeah. Now, is it gonna change? Of course, it's going to change, but it has to change quickly and going to Tampa against their power play with point and Kuchar off and Hedman and others, man. Good luck with that. Carolina's gotta stay out of the box. They gotta get a big save here and there. Primarily. They just have to play with a little bit more defensive confidence because right now that's not happening and that's why Carolina is allowing five goals a game.
