Former Millbrook star Wesley Grimes transferred to State from Wake Forest. Grimes says he grew a lot as a player and a young man while at Wake, but is happy for the opportunity to be back home
Wesley, what made you want to come back and be a part of this in your own. Um Everything really, you know, from the being back home to the atmosphere, to the coaching staff, to who I would be playing with. You know, all the, all the pieces just came together and, you know, it's an exciting thing and I just wanted to be a part of it. You look at the transfer class, obviously a lot of talent, a lot of talent coming back. What have the conversations been as far as expectations and what you've talked about since? Yeah, I mean, we talk a lot about top 12, you know, that's, that's the big thing, uh in meetings, coaches, top 12 string coaches, top 12. So we attack everything like we're gonna be in our top 12. So that's kind of been the motto and that's how we're gonna attack every day for that. Help you grow you. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, I've learned a lot from Wake Forest. Um I'm way, I'm a way different football player than I was, you know, two years ago in high school. You know, I've learned from football IQ to just, uh, how to carry myself as a professional, you know, um, uh, just carrying good habits that I learned from Wake Forest over the State. So that, that was really the biggest things I've learned at. W how is that for you guys? Yeah, it's exciting. It's kind of surreal. Um, getting all these guys together and a lot of guys I played with, you know, just the whole, uh, NC State team is kind of filled with like people I grew up with and so it's kinda, it's funny to look at it at first, the first week. It was kinda like, man, like, am I actually on this team? Like it kinda felt like a little weird but, you know, i it's, it's gonna be fun and it's exciting. I'm real comfortable playing with all my guys again. So, yeah, not a talent that you guys have found on the offensive side of the ball. I mean, just how crazy is that, that, that this offense is pretty negative. Oh, yeah, yeah, I mean, I feel like we can do, we can do anything, uh this upcoming season, we're gonna be able to run the ball at a high level. Uh, offense line is gonna be able to block at a high level. Grayson is gonna be able to have time in her pocket to throw, uh to high level receivers who's gonna, you know, we will run the ball, we throw deep Jet suite so I feel like we can do it all on offense this year. We just got to put the pieces together in the off season, kind of touch on it. But what does excite you then? And what kind of a person he is? I know his approach is a little different but what, what, what's the, what? Yeah, I mean, he's a great guy, you know, I can tell he's, he's real intelligent and he knows what he's talking about and, um, I can tell he's gonna get the playmakers the ball and, um, you know, um, you know, I feel like with this, this past season, he found a way to make the offense still put up points, you know, even when time we're kind of going a little rough, he still found a way to make stuff happen. So, you know, now that the pieces, there's more pieces. Um I, I'm already knowing he's gonna do so many things with it and I'm excited to see how it goes, the scouting report, like, like you want like what I'm for me as a player. Um really me as a player. I mean, um I bring, I bring a lot of energy, you know, I'm a real uh positive vibe type of guy, you know, I, I feel like that's one thing outside of, you know, my football ability. Um I like to let my, my, my vibes rub off on other people so to get the kind of the team together. Um, but in terms of football, you know, I'm a deep that type of guy, you know, I can, I can run. I take pride in my hands a lot. And so I really think that's the biggest thing, just me, I'm deep threat, I'm running. I've been working on my routes. Um, so, yeah, that's the biggest thing. I know you want to get closer to home too. But, uh, if NC State wouldn't be at the level right now, would you maybe look elsewhere? Um, just, just the importance of being at home and then, yeah, I mean, yeah, being at home, it's a, it's a, it's a great feeling, you know, like I'm, I'm real comfortable here, grew up here, been here my whole life. So, and I just feel like the opportunity that state that the opportunity out of state right now is a great opportunity. That's why, you know, I, I wanted to be a part of this.
