okay, what do you say? We switch gears here to some hockey Carolina hurricanes opened the season Wednesday with the columbus blue jackets coming to town. So to help me set the stage, let's bring in 99 9 the fan host and our canes insider adam gold adam. Long time no, see thank you so much for hopping on tonight. You know, the last time we talked was shortly after game seven loss to the new york rangers. We talked about a lot of things, but one of those of course was finding some scoring, whether it was on the power play or just another natural score. A lot of moves were made this offseason. Do you think the canes addressed those scoring issues from last year? Well, time will tell max patch already won't be around until probably middle of february. So there's a lot of time to get other guys involved Andre Kasha is gonna figure in the mix, paul Stastny who is a late add in free agency I think is a really good pick up and of course we'll talk more about Brent Burns maybe another time, but Burns will be good on the power play and he's going to be paired greatly with Jacob slavin. I said all summer long, the improvement is going to have to come from within Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen need to be great, not just good in the playoffs. Andrei Sannikov martin nature's Seth Jarvis, yes. Perry code. Can you hear me all need to take more steps if those things happen, Carolina is going to be fine in the postseason and they're the favorites to win the Metropolitan Division, which is actually more difficult than it was a year ago. Well, you know what you mentioned Brent Burns, let's go ahead and touch on him. You know, a couple weeks ago, I asked Roddy about him and he said, you know, I hate that we had to wait 20 years to get him, but better late than never. The 37 year old former Norris trophy winner. Obviously we know what he brings, you know, as like his game scoring on the power play. We saw it in the preseason already, but just overall bolstering that blue line. What else does Burns bring to this defense? Well, he can play a ton of minutes. He is a true number one top pair defenseman. Um, the fact that he's a right shot and he's great on the power play isn't like an add on, but he's a big body, he's 65, he can play a ton. He and Slavin together could end up being one of, if not the best pair in the entire NHL Carolina's top four if they can stay healthy, should be as good as anybody's in the entire league. Uh, whether it's offensively defensively for sure, but they can eat a ton of minutes. I don't know, Brett passion power play, but Burns is a workhorse and they haven't had a player like him ever, Really, a better version of Dougie Hamilton to be honest. One of the things that Roddy also said was that he is like out working as far as like in the weight room, all the young guys, all the 20 year olds, he's still, you know, busting it just like Rod Brind'amour does okay quickly. I don't know if you're, I don't know want to make a bold prediction type of a guy but I'm gonna put you on the spot anyways because you mentioned it there another favorite again in the metro. It's it's a difficult one though this season. As you mentioned, it's you know, a tough division. But what do you think is this the year that the hurricanes go all the way? I mean there it's hard to predict that now because you can't predict health but they're gonna add max patchy already basically at the trade deadline for nothing off he's on their own roster but that will be when he first steps back on the ice And again, if nature's and kokanee me and specially cough and Jarvis and Aho and Teravainen are doing their thing and given health and Carolina has probably got the best roster right now in the metro then you got to go up against the florida and the Tampa's of the world and and hope that you're good enough, hope your goaltending holds up, the goaltending was good last year. It wasn't necessarily healthy in the playoffs, but it was good enough to win. It was good enough to beat the rangers. Um So look, I like their chances and they'll tweak as they need to. They pushed the salary cap pretty high. I love the way this team plays on a game in game out basis and for my money, they have the best coach in the league. So all signs are if I was had a Magic eight ball, all signs point to yes I agree with all of that. I think that they have obviously so much step. I enjoy watching them play. I also love that there's so much youth and veteran mix in their combined. It'll be fun to watch it out. Obviously it's an 82 game regular season, so we'll take it. What do they say? Game by game adam Gold. Thank you so much.
