Welcome back into sports extra as we continue to take a look at what went wrong in the Carolina panthers 24 16 loss to the Steelers to help me do that. Let's bring back in W Oriel. So chris lee was a bank of America Stadium chris, let's get right to it. Something that I've loved that steve Wilks has said In recent weeks, as you know, it's demoralizing when a team runs the ball down your throat, you can't stop it. That's been the Panthers identity in recent weeks. Today though, just a season low 21 yards rushing. What do you think? Is this more about what the Steelers have up front or what the Panthers don't have? Well, this is one of those great answers because it's a little bit of both Casey. The Steelers defensive line absolutely moved the panthers defense offensive line out of the way plenty of times and you saw that the panthers couldn't get that push. You said it, Deontay foreman only 10 carries, 10 yards on those carries, 21 total yards from the Carolina panthers running, this is one of those games where you could see that they're missing one christian mccaffrey because before, when the panthers couldn't get anything going up the middle, you have christian mccaffrey, making those dynamic plays around the edges. They don't really have a lot of guys who can make those plays around the edges, Those dynamic playmakers and that's what they were missing today against the Pittsburgh Steelers and it absolutely cost them in the end. You know, something else. I heard wilkes say after the game is the third down conversions were horrendous on both sides of the ball, but specifically we're going to take a look on the defensive side of things. The Steelers were able to convert 12 of 16 on third downs. There was especially long drive in the third quarter to start things off Chris where it has been the problem here. Well you have to go back to that third quarter, that first drive for the Steelers, Casey 11 minutes 43 seconds, that was 91 yards, 21 plays and they converted five third downs on that drive alone. You talked about demoralizing before, that's definitely demoralizing. But one of the things that caught up with the Carolina panthers is injuries. C. J. Henderson had an ankle injury so he didn't play most of this game. Donte Jackson, he's out for the season with an achilles injury, so keith taylor had to step in and be the next man up alongside Jaycee Horn as the cornerbacks that came back to bite the Carolina panthers because in the first half, well keith Taylor was on George Pickens George Pickens gets his two catches for 53 yards. Then at the second half they switch Horn goes on Pickens and Pickens didn't do anything in the second half. If you notice no catches then and then keith Taylor goes over to Deante johnson and Deante johnson goes off his 10 catches and almost 100 yards receiving for him. It was a very bad game for keith taylor, that was one of the reasons why the panthers weren't able to get off the field on third down is because they are thin in their secondary and it really caught up to him in this game. Well, the talk all week was he got to protect the bank. That would be hard to do with the terrible towels going crazy inside Bank of America Stadium. Wilkes said after the game, he didn't pay attention. He wasn't affected, but chris you were there, you saw it. Do you think that had an effect on this team today? Well, as a head coach, you definitely have to say that they weren't paying attention to it, but there's no way you could have noticed it. So many terrible towels in here. We didn't have the exact count of Steelers fans, but you just could look out from the press box and see more black and yellow than any blue and silver and black. There were not a lot of Carolina panthers fans here, More Steelers fans here and whenever the Steelers did something great, you could see the terrible towels going, you could hear the crowd, the crowd wasn't very loud for the Carolina panthers, even when they did great things during this game, it felt like a Steelers home game instead of a Carolina panthers home game that had to weigh into the conscious and the psyche of this panthers team who already couldn't move the ball and already couldn't get off the field on third down. So steve doing his job saying we didn't pay attention to it, but you know that it had to have some type of impact on them. Well, we'll see what kind of a turn out comes saturday christmas Eve. The panthers are gonna need a christmas miracle to keep their playoff hopes alive. Chris lee. Thank you so much.
