Hurricanes talk postponements, COVID issues
Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour talks about how the team is handling COVID-19 cases and several postponements. The team is coming off back-to-back wins against Detroit and Los Angeles.
There we go. Yeah, yeah. All right. We'll take questions for Nino. Go ahead, Cory. Hey, Nino. There we go. Um, we just wanted to ask about about the Olympics. It seems like there's a lot of uncertainty right now. Have you heard anything? And just your thoughts on the possibility this isn't going to happen? I assume it's probably the possibility that the lump is going to happen is probably very slim. I mean, there has been called with the p A. But I mean, there's a lot of games being postponed, so you've got to fit them in eventually. And that's probably during that time, I assume. Well, you know, obviously, with so much going on and changing with the covid protocols, how do you handle it as a person? You know, I know this is your job, and this is your career, but it's got to be a lot to handle mentally, I presume, right? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, at the end of day, I mean, we're still on a very good side of the of the world. I mean, we're very still very fortunate situation. We're able to do what we love to do, and I think we just got to look at that way. I mean, obviously it sucks Not not be playing. And obviously a lot of covid. Hopefully, nobody feels too too bad about it, but the actual day by day and go from there. Chip? Yeah. Nina. To follow up on what? Corey asked if you're allowed to go to the Olympics. Were a little concerned about base in China. Can you say it again? I said, If you're allowed to go to the Olympics at the NHL allows players to go, would you go? Is that is that if you already made that decision or the quarantine rules, they said, uh, Where might be out 3-5 weeks, giving you some concern. I mean, I was It was very concerned, and being able to be stuck over there is the whole quarantine situation. And but at the end of the I mean you always have a chance to represent. The country is always a big owner, and you want to do that. But the same time, I mean, there's a lot of steak, and so we just got to see what the decision going to be. And whatever case it will be. Well, we'll see how it goes. Mhm. Is that it? Yeah. Even the minnow. Pretty sure you can feel that, uh, that seem to moan at November. Can you can, you know, make the apps are gonna get Markham your secret, I mean, myself. And go to November. Come and see how it goes. Okay. Finish filler. No, no. Any personal space and place today? Been in Fargo on the yard to look grateful British Bill. Upside water, please. And two Englishmen who for a little coital moment, don't damn expression. They seek to go to the bottom and how their souls line up in a dancing, dancing spillover coach of the trial motivational speech built out in a super choke must in terms. Uh, this isn't good. He serves in the Olympia area in Gifford Gifford. People are very sensitive caring for the gloves in the truck. Yes. As honest with no sure made an appeal to sections mentioned your frog for a ride. My local school, 20 Charles and some golden we can go up should be So it wasn't like a blend of you. Why not? Yeah. Please bring. It's fabulous, but it's gonna hopefully like, uh, this is the community of toys for English. Down the damage. Present them into the film in the film that summer. Ya Malak Not good. Not good on. Just, you know, is there Is there any concern that this could be your last chance to go to the Olympics? Yeah. I mean, I've been very fortunate to have a chance to play in 2014, and obviously not being able to go in 2000 and 18 was kind of upsetting and very unfortunate. And obviously, this year, everybody would have loved to go and, uh, but, I mean, there's just just is how it is. You can just think about it, and hopefully I got one more chance. Who knows? All right. Thank you. Right. Yes. Yeah, Yeah. Mm. All right. Oh, no. All right. We'll take questions for table. Go ahead. Cory. Table. I wanted to ask you the same thing that we ask Nino, which is, uh, it seems like the Olympic situation is getting to be less of a possibility as the days go by. What are your thoughts on that? And if you're if you if you can go, do you think you will go. Yeah. I mean, if it's always been my dream to play in the Olympics and too bad I haven't really had a chance to play. It looks like again there's no chance. So it's just not great. Well, table in regards to the covid situation, obviously you're seeing a lot of your teammates being impacted. Um, you know, this is your career, but as a human being, and you're seeing these things trans, uh, transform around you. How do you handle that? How do you You know, how are you handling that? I suppose is better with that word? Uh, yeah. I don't know. It's different times for sure. Just gotta battle through this, I guess. And let's just gotta believe day by day. Yeah. All right. Thanks for God. The Hallmark chip chip. Go ahead. Sorry. Come back. Uh huh. Thanks, Deborah. Now I just want her looking back in the Olympics. I think I've asked you before. Just, uh when did you first have the dream of playing an olympics? And have you been the kind that every four years you really followed them in the tournament? How they're doing? I didn't really hear that sorry. 2nd over here and do it on mine. Here we go. Of course. Thank you. Really muted. All right, go ahead. Did you hear me out there now? Yeah. Okay. Now it's gonna ask you. Did you bomb? At what point did you have? The maybe. Honestly, you're fine. Don't work. Hang on. Hang on. The power is there. Okay, Go ahead. Well, at what point do you remember when you first had this Olympic dream and every four years if you followed the Olympics and really been involved in how is doing in the Olympics? And you have a favorite player that you call it just kind of your history with the Olympics. I mean, yeah, it's always been my favorite girl. It's a good player. That's one of the biggest, uh, place you can be a player and to play for your national team. It's something. Uh, it's awesome for sure. And, uh, it's just been some tough bounces, I guess. Uh, last last time, they didn't go, and this time looks like we will, but now it looks like we don't, so it's just tough one. I can ask you one other thing too. I know you played in the world Juniors. What was that experience like for you? And how did that help you In your development as a player? That was great. I bet twice the 1st. 1st time didn't go that well. But the second time we end up winning, winning the whole tournament. So that was for sure. A big booster for my career? I think so. It was. It was awesome time, I think. All right. Thanks, General. Thank you. Yes. Yeah. Well, good. Oh, all right. We'll take questions for Rod Corey. Go ahead. Brought to you know, obviously you don't have You don't have any games for a little while. How do you handle all this with having this time and trying to give guys time off, but also trying to, you know, keep guys legs fresh and all that? Yeah. Good question. Um, yeah, it's tough. I mean, you know, it's right now it's more a mental break. You know, the guys that are able to go, you just you don't really, You know, I really pushing too much on systems or anything like that. It's all about trying to keep their conditioning and their legs, and you know, whenever we get back to playing, hopefully they those guys at least won't be, uh, you know, too far. Too far behind from where they were. Go ahead, Chip. Yeah, right. I know that nature Stone Fox weren't out there today. Any updates on those two guys? Um, yeah. Fosse just didn't just this game another day. Um, but yet she's, you know, got hit the other night, and he's, you know, he's an ad concussion protocol? Think so. Who knows when that clears up? Well, I'm looking a little bit more at the bigger picture. I guess now you're officially at the holiday break and the teams start to their season is you know, this is a turning point in the schedule. How do you you know, you take a step back and assess and look at what the team's done through, you know, about the 1st 30 games, how do you feel? And how proud of you are of what the team has been able to accomplish so far? Well, you're always you know, this team, it's hard not to be proud of the guys how they play every night. So, Garrison, you know where we are as far as you know, standing exists and that I mean that that's obviously the number one thing we look at. But, you know, like I said, whether we were good record or not, I'd be proud of the way we played at this point, just to a lot of different guys in the lineup and things happening. But we seem to, you know, at least at this point of really played hard and giving ourselves a chance to win every night. So that's, uh, that's something to be said about that chip record. Yeah, we're tandem today. Uh, it sounds like the Olympic thing is, is kind of going away. Um, I'm sure there's a lot of disappointment if that's the way the league and the players go. I just wanted to get your thoughts on that. And also, you know, the fact that you're you may have time to make up some of these games now and not be more condensed than you already. Are you Are you a little relieved? And from that, um, well, I I haven't heard, you know. I mean, you know more than me on the Olympic thing. I think if that is the case. Obviously, my opinion of smart decision. I mean, I don't know who would really want to go in under those circumstances. You know, especially, you know, I just put myself in that situation with the family and this and that. There's zero chance that you want to run the risk of being stuck over there that, you know, that alone makes it not too enticing. Um, so I think it's the right decision. If that comes to you know, the way you know, if they don't go, um and then obviously, then it opens up like you said Some hopefully a window where you can make up some of this, uh, lost time. Um, but, you know, I don't know. I mean, that's almost never the issue. Really? For us is just just everyone we don't know, right? Nobody really knows what's going on here as we move forward. So it's kinda you're taking everything day by day, and, you know, hopefully what you said the common sense stuff. That's really what you're talking about, the kind of prevails, you know, That's how things work out. If I could ask you one more thing on a bigger picture So last season started in January. Here we are in the end of December. When you look back at this year has been an insane year, I think for everyone. But when you look back at What the team accomplished, you know where this team is compared to where it was three years ago. When you think about 2,021, what do you think about this this year between last season and this season? Oh, well, I think everyone has been through a lot, like you said. Just in general, we seem to continue to just be through alive. But I think there's a just as as this organization and a team of years, and I think we accomplished quite a bit. I think we're I love the way the group comes to perform every night and try to, You know, I've always said We try to entertain the people that watch us and make them proud of our group and you know, that's the end of the day. I think we've done that. Um, you know, we accomplish what we want to do yet no, you know, we want to be the last team standing, and until that happens, You know, we're not going to rest, you know, like that's that's the ultimate goal. But I love. I love where we are. I love the fact that when we play, you know, two men short was six call ups. I was still expected to win. You know, I think I think I I like that. That's kind of what we've kind of grown in three years and, um, you know, and obviously we want to keep building on that. All right. Thanks, Ron. Okay. Thank you. Yeah, Freddy is just finishing up his workout. We'll have him over after.
