Ingram: We're not satisfied we secured a share, we want it to ourselves
UNC forward Harrison Ingram spoke to the media ahead of Saturday's regular season finale vs. Duke
Although after the fact you might say, you know, I called the show. Take the point. Not until, not until March 11th, uh, when you were being a cruise. Mhm. How has the ways that these different, or has it? Most? Really, most of the guy I expected, you know, very focused on winning and, you know, he's a lot more personable guy than I would expect. Um, from a head coach. He really, like, he's in the locker room with us all the time. He loves meeting with us every week and, you know, building real relationships. That's something that I really didn't expect coming in really anything. I mean, from my hobbies, like chess or whatever and to stuff he does to him going to his kids games and is anything really anything about life? Just is a hobby? Oh, since I was like seven. Pretty good, pretty good. Uh, James Awe plays sometimes from Britain. He can't, you know, I'm the winner every time on, uh, chess.com. It's on Blitz. It's 1200. Are you Chippy? I am out your way. If it's in person on the phone it's a little different but if it's in person if I'm losing, I get a little mad and you might hit the pieces or something like that. Change from this to that chippy guy on the court. Is there like you look at the mirror and heart basically where you listen just when, when you, when you step on the court, it just happens. I mean, really, for me it's just anything that involves a competition. I, I don't like to lose and I had an older brother growing up and he was, he wasn't the nicest guy to me when I was, you know, growing up. So he was always blaming me. So I feel like I developed that tippy attitude from the way I grew up, set that tone. Did you kind of feel like it's something that you, when, when you were looking at this like that of that definitely the intensity um whether it's chips or just trying to win. Uh Me and Cormack, I think we as coming in, I knew that we would bring that intensity and that like whenever one or two people bring it, everyone else brings up the level of everybody else for the few people that have played. They told me it's something, especially when there's North Carolina Duke game. It's something that you can't really compare the fans are like right next to you. It's gonna be loud, it's gonna be fun, but as be experienced, I'm not gonna forget. So, you know, I'm excited. Really RJ? I mean, we haven't really talked about it that much. I mean, they said a little bit about it. We're kind of just trying to focus on the game plan and try to treat it like any other game. But knowing that it is a big game, it is Duke Un C, last game of the season for the title. I mean, we know it's a big game but try to treat it like any other game. Mhm. Mhm. I definitely have and, you know, I'm excited to play it myself and see what it's all about. I mean, I've never been in Cameron with the fans that loud. I mean, I watched my sister play a few games but the fans weren't, aren't like they're gonna be tonight. I mean, or on Saturday night I heard there's like people camping out for tents like months before, which is ridiculous to me. But, you know, I would be excited to go in there and get it up. Yes, sir. That was the first time. It was definitely smaller than I thought it was. I thought it was, I, I've come to UN C and then I would think Duke is the same size, but it was definitely smaller than I thought it was. And then how close the stands are to the chairs, like to the, where they were, she was sitting. I mean, I was, I could have almost touched, like, I feel like the fans would be able to almost touch us. Which is a little weird to me. Thank the Lord. Yeah, I saw a picture of Luke May on Instagram. It was like they were almost like the fans are all touching and I thought that was kinda cool there. Right. I mean, it's, it's, it's a place I feel like you really can't replicate until you play there. We were talking about it. She said there's no way she's wearing that because she thinks she should get booed at the stadium. But I hope she's not sitting in the section of the Dukes. Sh there's no way I'm letting that happen. No way. Um, o only four, only my intermediate family because we only could get four tickets. I mean, it's hard to get, it's so much easier to get tickets than 22,000 versus 8000, but definitely my whole family would be watching for sure. Mhm. I thought their intensity level is up. They're shooting the ball better. They're playing well together. Um, their guards are really, really tough and, you know, they got Philip Posy and Mitchell on the front court but their guards are really, really tough. They make a lot of shots and they play well together last time, the way that they were kind of guarding RJ it seemed like. Mhm. In game, you know, Switch of, ok, this is how RJ, I like that movie. I mean, it's more of an endgame thing. I kind of just take whatever is open. I mean, sometimes R is open. Give it to RJ. If I'm open, give it to me and mine is open. I mean, kinda, we have so many good players that doesn't really matter whose night it is and whoever's on, we're gonna give him the ball since the first game against them. I thought our intensity levels pick back up on the defensive end. Um, we're taking more pride. One on one. I like rebound the ball, um, since, but I, I don't think we've been outrebounded in the last maybe 20 games. I mean, I feel like we've been rebounding the ball really well and just kind of trying to be the bullies every single game and even though we play small ball, we're trying to bully teams get points in the paint and push the pace. Mhm. Yeah, definitely. The last five or six games, I feel like our intensity pick back up practice. We're going at it a lot harder and, you know, getting off the river, switch up the teams and making it a lot more competitive question. Championship team. What do you mean, USA basketball, my sophomore year or my, not my, uh, senior year of high school. I mean, it would mean the world. I mean, obviously everyone wants to come in here and hang a banner, but, you know, we want it to ourselves. So to me, not really, we're not really satisfied that we were secured or share whatever they would say about it. But we want it to ourselves and we want to hang one and one of three. Mhm. Ok. It's kind of been the motivation. Uh, coach Fred will send, like, our group text will send like a picture of it with like the spotlight over it and say it's like, it's right there. Just go take it. You know, it's kind of been a motivation for us to, you know, even if the team might, might be the best team that you're playing are the best, the biggest name or like the biggest Blockbuster game or Sonic, whatever they call it, Sonic, whatever they call it. Sonic. Blockbuster, like to, to the, to find the motivation um ourselves and find it within to, to go take it because it's right there for us last, like, I don't know, last, maybe a week cause they didn't want us to think about it too much. They want us to focus on game to game. But the last week really after the NC State game is whenever they started doing that, ask you first thing, how much are you being competing? How much did you just enjoy being that stage in that sort of that much? Just electricity? Right? I mean, it's something that's so much bigger than myself and so much bigger than just our team and it's a rivalry that's been here forever. And that's, I mean, one of the big reasons, not one of the big reasons. But, you know, one of the main attractions to coming to UN T and Duke is that rivalry and playing against Duke, playing against all the fans on national television. So, you know, that game for me was I told you I blacked out. I still, I don't remember anything and that was one of the best nights of my life. Honestly, I, I don't even, I don't know what I said. I was just, you know, in the moment having a good time and, you know, we got the dub so it was fun. I, I haven't felt it. Honestly, that was an odd body experience. Um Just the fans how loud it was whenever Armando got that first dunk or first lay up, whatever the first point was, the fans I feel erupted and it was as loud as I've ever heard it in the Dean Smith Center. Yeah. Did exactly that. I went to Franco Street. We had a good time, you know, saw them people burning couches and climbing. I don't know, acting crazy. But, you know, it was fun. It was something that we had to experience after a dub and you know, that the energy in the city after getting that Duke win was something that I feel like we haven't felt after any of the wins this year. Yes. Away from that. Sorry. 01 more time, right. Game plan change for you. Sort of the experience of the first game. I mean, I'm definitely going to re-watch that first game a few times and see how they played me and see how they played us. But I know that they're going to come with a different game plan as we probably will too. Um, they lost. So obviously they're going to come switch up some things and some people are playing better than others on their team, so they'll switch up who's playing. And by the end of the day, I feel like I'm just going to go out there and, you know, trust my game, trust my work and whatever I see on the court, I'm gonna play a broken out. Yeah, there was, I, I don't know, I explained that. I just, I never, I never seen it before. I just decided, you know, instead of saying too little, I'm gonna stomp on it. So that was the first time I've ever done it worse than, uh, I, I think kind of unique way to look at it is I thought we picked our pace back up on offense. So teams are a little bit more scared to go to the offensive glass against us. People are trying to get back, they're trying to play slower and try to stop our pace. And I feel like we're in the best shape that we can play a slow game like we did against Virginia. We can also play a fast game like we do against teams like Miami teams like Duke and, you know, it really doesn't matter for us. I feel like we're in such good shape and we run so much even now that no matter what it is. I mean, we're ready to go. I mean, really the, the, whenever coach Fred started talking about the banner, I mean, we were all like, it's right there for us and, you know, we, we feel like we're the best team in the AC C. We feel like we're one of the best teams in the country and that we're playing at our best. It's really hard to beat us and, you know, a lot of times that we were losing, it was because of us and we were making silly mistakes or we weren't ready to go. We didn't have the energy and, you know, not having energy in a moment like this where we can do something special is kind of crazy. Mhm I mean, definitely, I mean, we didn't really celebrate after that Notre Dame win like it was cool to, you know, get that feeling, but our eyes went straight to that Duke game knowing that yeah, we might have got to share it, but we definitely don't want to share it and we definitely do not want to share it with Duke 100%. I'm gonna be, I'm all about that. I can't wait, I cannot wait. Thank you.
