Kenseth: You didn't really notice the environment from the drivers seat being different once they started the race
her 1/10 place finish yesterday. And the real heroes 400 Darlington. Just walk us through. Ah, your race, Your first race back. No practice, no qualifying. It seems like he didn't miss a step. I don't know about that. I mean, it was ended up being a great finish, a lot of fun in the car and working with those guys. But, you know, there was certainly some things that need to be, you know, sharp around and brush up on. But yeah, overall is a It was It was a great day. Their cars run a run. Really? Well, there, darling. To pin sauce by were able Teoh get a good finish their way. We're back toward a kind of sort of front. Their tour. Then deal. We're gonna open up the floor to questions. We're going to start with Bob. Pa. Chris. Go ahead, Bob in, man. How would you arrange that? How would you rate that? As far as among the most difficult things that you've done and racing, Was it one of the most difficult? Was it not all that difficult? Where would you rate it? Well, I mean, it's never really easy. I would say to get kind of prepared to get the mental mindset and everything ready to start the race was very difficult. I was definitely anxious when they're getting ready to throw the green and, you know, fired up in there the first corner, everything being do and different and have an extended period of time off. But really, once we got into that second restart ran through for life, I really felt comfortable. Um, but then, you know, there's a lot of things when you're out for a while. That he just aren't a sharp eyes is when you left is just, like other little details stuff like give them your good box clean. And you know, that road stuff And, uh, you know, just just just lied a lot of a lot of little different stuff. I really helped break up a winning car. They did a great job of getting everything ready. And, uh, I felt really good. Ah, really good, good. Physically, really, really no issues. They're just trying Teoh, just trying to get rolling again. So, I mean, they're all difficult. I'm certainly I think it helped that, you know, typically, their cars run really well at Darlington. Um, certainly this package makes the cars each of your driving what they were when what left. You know, when you have less power and more drag, everything's happened just a little bit slower. Still happens fast, but everything's happened just a little bit slower and that, you know, hopes the adjustment as well. Thank you. Our next. Our next question will come from Claire. Be laying for serious except NASCAR radio. Go ahead, Claire. Well, thank you, Matt. You know, we thought veterans would excel at Darlington any time. Probably. It's pretty amazing what you did. A bill, your humble. How do you look at going back? And do you think the veterans will be the ones that still will probably do better when we go back to Darlington on Wednesday? And how do you look at preparing for the return after what you did yesterday? Well, I mean, I I don't know. I have got to relieve you any film yet or anything. I don't really know what you know. Kind of what everybody looked like, except for the cars that raced around. So it's hard to predict. You know who's gonna, you know, do better and everybody else on Wednesday. Although it is a a quick turnaround. Um, you know, I suspect that, you know, that won the race is gonna run really bad or vice versa. Necessarily. So, um, you know, I don't know. I just hope to improve a little bit on everything we did, but, you know, at the same time, that's what everybody's trying to do. So it's not like you're gonna go there and be like, you know, we finish 10th. Need to this better, Not better. We're gonna go there automatically do that much better, because that's what everybody's go is. Everybody learned their nobody had any practice. Uh, all the drivers been out a car for whatever 60 or 70 days or whatever it was. So I mean, I think everybody's getting a better. Just just like I was. We just got a uh, Yeah, I got trying. Figure out how to be better in a car with better. And it's gonna be definitely different. Different conditions most likely than than what we had this weekend. So there's a lot of a lot of variables. Good job, Matt. Thank you. Thank you. Our next question is gonna come from? Will Kunkel? Go ahead, Will. Amen. Just wondering just how odd it was yesterday with all protocols. No fans for your first race back then. Also today. This morning. How's your body? Responded? And to be ready to go away soon. By Wednesday. Yeah, I feel I feel fine. I mean, I could probably use a little bit more sleep. It's pretty busy around here getting everybody ready or getting everybody going with the kids and getting all your race notes. Don't and do an ATM and throw in some of this stuff. So it's a little busy. Little time, Probably toe Teoh get caught up on everything. But I feel good. I feel really gonna really have any issues. Which others up. Think before everything fit pretty good. And and, uh, yeah, I feel good. And just the first part of that was what was it weird that protocols and all that? Yes. I mean, I kind of felt like you're going to a test, so yeah, it was It was different. You know, not not having all the fans there. I'd say once they threw the green flag, you didn't really notice is much, but certainly pretty raised, saying post race to definitely felt felt really, really different, for sure. Obviously, where I'm asked around and doing a interviews and face covering this stuff out, kind of. I, uh you know, But once the race started, I mean, I thought the recent was good. Nobody have in practice. I think that I was typically makes for better races to some people. Kind of hit it, and some people miss it. And you didn't really notice Environment from the driver's seat begin different once I started the race. Okay. Our next question will go come from Ah, Dustin Long, NBC Sports. Go ahead, Dustin. Thank you. Met since you hadn't driven this package before. What was it like? What kind of adjustments do you had? Did you have to make to your driving style? And I know listening to the radio a little bit that Chad was giving you a lot of information, like with leader. Others were doing throttle in the corners. Is that something that you wouldn't normally gotten? I know you had. The smt of data was available when you last raised. Was that something that you were getting more to help you with? this with this package yesterday as well. Well, I mean, it's always good to get information and my brother have too much information or not enough. And, uh so I think that's kind of kind of the drones we take away. Like you know, if you can use it to your advantage, you can get better. This and we're just at something faster. That's great. A lot of it, you know, is locked. Dictated how your cars driving in traffic, your in and all that stuff a star as a package. Certainly, I think it made the adjustment easier. Look a little bit easier to get get going again. It's definitely different, but certainly even Darlington first is Waratahs is not retire Paul office. Still, you have to be much more strategic, especially on restarts. 1st 3 or four laps, there's a lot more. You know, I hate to say look, but you know, being in the right line on restarts and I can imagine that's gonna be a lot lot more unevenly go places like Charlotte. In places like that, we have a lot of grip and you can run closer to wide open it not why open but but yeah, you had to be more patient. There was times were like it was old package. And I can't stop and restart, turn under him and try to ask him You could just make that pass. And I've caught myself doing at a few times and get along side of him And then four hours pass it on straight away at the top. So you certainly had to be, you know, more patient. I think you got to get whatever you get on restarts. But you also have to be careful not to get yourself in a position where you get your car bogged down. Now, stack up on the straightaway and go back Bias. So certainly, uh, certainly more strategy involved, you know, particularly when the cars were bunched up there. Used to be. Thank you. Our next question will come from Michelle Martinelli, USA Today. Go ahead, Michelle. That, um you spoke going into this race about how you were a little bit nervous, and you just use the word anxious. Was there a point in the middle of the race where you felt like, Hey, I got this like it's just like riding a bike. I mean, you never feel like you got this until you're coming off for him leaving. And that's a long time. You really feel like that. But, uh, you know, um, I say buy honestly about a 2nd 3rd lab. I I've felt pretty good. I felt pretty comfortable. I pretty aware of my surroundings. And I was able to raise a lot of the cars around me and even in that first segment, make few passes with some competitive cars and really felt pretty good. So just the part about the racetrack it didn't take me long to feel, feel comfortable or at home are like, I really haven't had a time off that apartment. Really? Uh, I didnt really take very long And a big part of that. Like I said, this happened good driving. Good driving a race car. Still, you know the part? We're I really wasn't uncomfortable it all the time. We got done with second restart. Our next question will come from Nate Ryan, NBC Sports. Go ahead with your question. May Oh, way we'll move on. It got stage. Yeah, I'm still here. You okay? Yeah. I can hear you now. Sorry. I always get nervous. I'm talking to Matt Kenseth. Yeah, I know. Terrible that way. Um, so I know if you noticed it, But a couple weeks ago, Kevin Harvick went out of this weigh on radio show that should praise you and talk about, like, you know, he felt as if you got a raw deal on, and he was really glad to have you back. And Harvey excited again last night, just kind of went out of his way to to talk about how great it was to have you back. And, you know, a testament to you. I'm just wondering, like you and Harvey kind of have a relationship there. And have you heard from him? If you heard from other people who have just sort of said, they're really excited to have you back, You know, I heard I heard from from a lot of people. I mean, that's, um um it's really nice. It's nice and say, especially as he's out there, they're winning winning those races. So, you know, I don't know. I mean, certainly it feels good to be back. I had a lot on the last two or three weeks, work with Chad and when a team, And certainly it was, uh it was a little bonus, Kevin racetrack and be competitive because, I mean, you just just don't know it was a real competitive. The the last season I raced Andi, certainly the year before that really didn't. Didn't go away. Should go where we wanted it to go necessarily. So s so it feels good to be back and you know, to be wanted and be part of that team and get a good start. But, I mean, it's it's only one race and I've got a lot of races and do, and I realize I have a lot of ah, a lot of improving to do. But it has been, has been found so far for sure. And a quick follow up Kurt Busch told us last night that he was really looking forward to calling you on the way home. I was wondering, did you guys have a conversation and how that went talking to Kurt? I actually called him. I didn't know it was calling me. So Uh huh. Yeah, I call talk to him a little bit on the way home excesses hang up here. Call scheduled. Uh, so Yeah. So it was good current. Had a really good day. Finished. Really? Well, looking forward to reading more of this stuff and hearing more about is race today. And hopefully, you know, I could learn something from that and, you know, flat for Wednesday. Thanks. Our next question will come from Alex and draft from the Charlotte Observer. Go ahead, Alex. Uh, well, so, like you said, I mean, I know it's still very early in the season. Selby said the first race back, But I guess I'm I've got kind of two questions. I'm curious first, how you're finished, sort of compared to what your expectations were going into the race. And then also I mean, since you did civil in that race, are you already looking potentially headed? You know, playoff bid for chicken, Aussie? Well, one race and I've got a lot of work to do. Teoh a lot of racing to do toe have a shot at making the playoffs and anything so natural, the points or, you know, obviously women would get either was likely, but so I don't know, but I that expectations are a tricky thing. You know, all I can say is that? You know, I expect this to be competitive. I don't know how long that's gonna take for me to be at my best, necessarily. And, um, you know, you never know how you gonna run. Week to week. Uh, ironically, this is super, super random, and I usually never made, like, you know, predictions are you know where you're gonna finish Wherever I get to talk to me. Last week and killed was kind of grew on me about where? Stuff official, how we're gonna run. I don't know why, but I just send, like, 12 to my head. And she has to other people that separately last week, when you're talking, everybody had 12. So on and urban, I would win Pretty happy being 12. My first day. So finished 10th was I thought was really, really good Tap tens. Uh, no matter what we're doing every week with the best team, whatever you're doing, top tens are not easy to come by. So get one first aid for her to go out there and run third. I thought that was, uh, existence for whole organization, you know? Congrats. Thank you. Okay. Our final question of the morning will come from Zac's turning oil from the Pocono Record. Go ahead with your question, Zack. Hey, I know yesterday you were running around Tyler Reddick a bit. I don't know how much you run around 100 neighbor Jekyll, but seeing those two rookies come home with top tens Did you see anything that that kind of jumped out about them? That may have surprised you with, you know, just considering the fact that that was the first Cup race there. Well, I mean, um, you know, I will. So I watched the championship homestead extremely race last year with Tyler. And, like, uh, I don't know him in all, but I watch that race with my dad. It was just incredible piece of driving. Incredible. I mean, he went won that race, and, um, you know, he was the difference maker in that, You know, a lot of times, you don't always feel that way. A lot of times, you know, you you know, everybody's pretty good when you get to this level. And I was feeling like it's more vocal car and positioning and you know, a lot of different stuff and having all this stuff better and everybody else's. But like when I watch a race at Homestead, he just he's friends with talent, especially those tracks where you gotta run, run high and get all that extra out of it. Just leave it right in line without making that mistake. A lot of people come late online, but typically eventually will make state. So hey, really impressed me watching that race. I can't say it really surprised me. I guess you don't pass to get run. Um, you know, yesterday particularly when he had, you know, nobody has way in that top movie. Really got that. We're working well. John Hunter. I have really racing. And some I watched him race. He's obviously got a lot of talent, and I think especially No, no, not at all. You know, a team, but especially when you see him in that car running a top 10. A car typically doesn't run a top 10. That was That was really a really impressive run run by
