Maye: We didn't show up for the sell out crowd
Drake Maye speaks to the media following a 45-32 loss to Notre Dame
you guys are welcome back right when you're unable to rob the ball. We talked about, there we go. What is that that was affected. Yeah I think you know running the football you know with any team and uh you know in the sport um got to you know run the football and stop the run. So you know it creates some problems for us but at the end of day I got a better job doing my part and uh you know, leading this team. So. Yeah no doubt you know they they're good players and uh you know when I you know I give them a good throw though, they'll make a play but I have a better job getting better throws. Um But I think you know this just show that both I think each had two touchdowns. So um you know they make plays and uh it felt good having them back but you know the result of the game didn't feel good. So what what adjustments did you notice? Notre dame make after you guys scored on the opening possession of the game and then couldn't really get your attraction? Yeah I think you know we had some three and outs after that I think you know, actually missed the field goal. I think that dr I think I got one first down and then um we just gotta you know the earlier game I think we had a chance to you know get up and uh just didn't move the ball very well. Um But I think they're heating us up a little bit on first down to stop the run. Um Just especially on, you know, p and 11th first play of the drive. And then uh they backed us up and uh blood pressure when they had to and they really played man um man this up and uh I mixed up a little bit of zone here at the end and you know, long long downs. But their physical and they're they're in the right spot the whole time. They're well coached and they showed up in today, kind of like a benchmark program, like something to aspire to. Now. You've seen level. What do you think to try to get to that level? Um Yeah, I think, you know, playing playing games here and keenan against the games is why people come here is why I came here um you know, I feel like, you know, we didn't show up for the for the sellout crowd um after I got that first drive, good thing going. And then uh you know, we kind of, you know, regressed from there. But uh you know, at the end, we gotta learn from it and shake back and uh look forward to um being back here next week against tech. What happened on the fumble? Um Yeah, it's got better for all security, you know, we're in no hot protection without the running back and uh you know, they brought mike fire and uh we had our our b. Flat and uh I think the upfront supposed to squeeze on it, so the end drops with the back and then they end up, you know, mike came free um and just try to escape and try to damage control the play. Um But it's gotta be ball security, I think that really put a damper in the second half. Um but it's got two hands on the ball and you know, take care of what's most important football. I know you're obviously, you know with the offense and trying to focus there and do what you can there be sense frustration from you guys on defense and it goes a couple times you guys are melting down a little bit like sense from you guys. Yeah, I think you know, we got some great players and you can decide a ball. Um I thought they did a good job offensively, you know, they drain the clock a little bit, they had some long possessions. Um But also at the same time we gotta do a better job of not going, you know, short short drives and you know, keeping them off the field, We got tired down their defense. Um But offensive, I thought, you know, drew play well and you know that tight ends obviously good player, but uh you know what I think, you know when the defense, you know, they're all kind of messing and playing together, They like I think the first couple drives of the game, they can stop the football and uh gets the ball back and they just kind of uh it was the third uh actually fourth game with coaches, so they'll uh they'll keep getting better and I thought they gave us a chance to kind of get off to a good start in the first half and we got to take a better opportunity for what it was max message in the locker room talk that long. But what do you say to the team he's just proud of us for, you know, not giving up. That's one thing I told my guys, you know, no matter the score, I don't think, you know, I'm never gonna give up, I guess it just looks bad as a football team. So uh he obviously said, you know, this never, never fun losing and uh you're never happy when you lose, but There are three and 1 still and uh look forward to see play. Did you think that some of the running the ball for you guys, is that just a physicality standpoint there? They were they just more physical than you guys up front. I think they did a nice job of rotating some guys and keeping guys fresh. Um you know, I think we kept the same five online and they did, you know heck of job pass protection. Um but you know, running the football, we got some good backs and uh I just felt like you know they kind of, you know, condensed it and try to make us, you know, stayed in one high and brought, you know, some guys down in the box and really just try to make us Make us beat them without running football on them. And I think that's what a program like Notre dame does run the football and try to stop the run. So 100%. I mean, like I said, you know, three announce, you know, obviously, you know, kill the teams, uh you know, the motivation and you know, the momentum. Um but you know, we have all, we gotta do a better job of, you know, keeping and getting first downs, I got a better job completing passes, I'm not sure the stats, but you know, I could have been, you know, much, much over 50%, I don't think. Um but at the end of the day, um you know what is often the jobs score points, you know what the defense, um we can't control what they do. So I just gotta motivate each other and uh, you know, play for each other when, you know, when one is lacking or the other. So this, you guys first loss of the season obviously like what is what is important about, I mean, learning from this disappointment, processing this disappointment, like what do you think the important things to take out of this, you know, to try to improve? Yeah, I think it's big, learning learning experience, obviously, uh we didn't come out, you know, and uh ready to play football in the second half, we got down into the 1st and 2nd quarter was was a big quarter, but uh it's an opportunity to learn from it. And uh so I show up in big games, you know, big games like this, we gotta show up and uh you know, they're the better team today, but you know, I feel like that we didn't put our best, you know, our best foot. So uh the first drive kind of showed what we can do offensively and Just a bummer, you know, you know, it's the only get 12 of these 12 these games guaranteed, so, you know, losing one, you know, just losing sucks in general. Alright, thanks. 32.
