RJ Davis is re-writing his UNC legacy during a career senior season. Winning never tasted so good. WRAL's Pat Welter sat down with Davis to try the RJ Davis Cajun shrimp burrito at the O'YA Cantina in Chapel Hill. They discussed food, fashion, RJ's career year, Caleb Love, and winning a national title.
At the oak Cantina. One dish always delivers and Davis and they have numbers. He takes it to the from the people that brought you Armando Bacot Mondo burger. 100%. I mean, that's my biggest accomplishment. To this day comes the RJ Davis Cajun shrimp burrito. We have our red rice, our black beans and then our queso fresco for the perfect finish. And it's a one of a kind menu item right next door to his town hall grill in Chapel Hill is owner David Sgi's Latin inspired Fare. Me and RJ got together and he talked to me about how much you love cooking. And then these are the spies. The result. Another nil perfect pairing there. You have it. The RJ Davis Cajun champ burrito Davis. Huge RJ. They say you are what you eat. And a Cajun shrimp burrito is pretty unique. I think I'm just a big like burrito guy and I love shrimp. I think it just defines who I am and it's like really good too. Reminds me a little bit of a, a tattoo of seeing on your calf when you play. Just be you. I never highlight to change my change who I am for anyone or that's why I got a tattoo. Um It's like a reminder, you get the loudest applause when they announce the starting line out. So you're getting love around here in Chapel Hill. But what does it feel like to get that love nationally now too? I just don't wanna continue to keep doing what I'm doing because uh not only feels good but I also see, you know, the work is being put in and the, the, um, the outcomes and results from it. This will be the first of many food puns, but a career high, 36 points had to taste pretty sweet. 36 six. And that's something that I'll just cherish forever and just to continue to, uh, you know, move forward with it, but also try to beat it. You've been through a lot at UN C man over your four years. I mean, from making the national championship to missing the NCAA tournament last year. And I know just from talking to you this season that one didn't sit right. You know, last year wasn't the way, you know, I intended it to go, especially after making that final four run. And, um, so it's just kind of like rewrite my legacy going to my senior, especially for my senior. I just want to be confident and live with no regrets defense down. It goes. Wow. Ok. All right. Here we go. Let's dig in. Right. Let's do it. It's like a shrimp bowl in one bit RJ. You're obviously into food, but I'm hearing you're into fashion as well. I always like, you know, see a lot of like, you know, a lot of NBA players, like, for instance, say Gibbs Alexander, that's like one of like probably most important players that I would look into fashion wise. I just like really, like trying on new things, like really putting on clothes and because I think it's also like expressing yourself, you know what I'm saying, how about future RJ Davis fashion line? That's actually been the idea of my, like starting a clothing brand. I think I got your logo. That might be tough as we see RJ with the 33 just thinking about this season. I think, you know, some fans might boil it down you and Caleb love just not being in flavors that mixed anymore. But I mean, it was going down pretty good there for a while. Wow, we kind of let the outside noise get into us a little bit. I mean, you know, it's definitely hard dealing with praise and criticism at the same time at the end of the day. I mean, me and he love were still brothers. You know, he's doing well at Arizona. He's playing really well. Definitely, you know, we still talk from time to time and have that still that bond and that brother Bond. I mean, I think change is always needed sometimes. And, uh, that's what, you know, happens here. One word I keep hearing from you guys this season is chemistry. Do you feel like you have the right ingredients to win a national championship? The chemistry is real in this team. And, um, we really do a good job of just, you know, making sure everyone's involved. And one thing that really, like got us going was our defense. Um, but at the same time we just, you know, we want it and we wanna win the ingredients by themselves are one thing, pack them together. You got a heck of a burrito. I get you your burrito, man.
