RJ Davis speaks to the media after a 84-51 win over Notre Dame.
Rondo, he got a little emotional over there. You know, you've been playing with him all these years. What from your perspective, what is his legacy here as a North Carolina Tar heel? I mean, I think his legacy here is hard to, to beat. Um the way he's impacted, not only his teammates, but this, this whole university has been special and um his jersey deserves to be in the Raptors. And um I mean, I'm super just fortunate to play with a team like him. He's just been so a great leader for us. Uh He's been dominant throughout his whole career here. Breaking records left and right. I feel like each year a new record is broken and, um you know, one thing about him, he left a legacy that will be established for the rest of his life and definitely a hard to beat for his records. Do you think the reason is because you have up there? Maybe not as, as as in? Yeah, but also I'm not like really an emotional person. So I don't think, uh unless I'm just like, last time I think I like was like, really emotional was national championship um but uh yeah, I know it was like, yeah, I love our fans. I love the students here. Um just like throughout the whole year, they just showed a lot of love for me and I saw them one more year and uh you know, they always have that little white board and just to see how they just, just show love and embrace me. Um I'm just super definitely gonna cherish this and remember this the rest of my life. No, they actually left, they left today for the AC C tournament year. Yeah, for sure. She has one more year. Yeah, that, um, I don't know, I don't have a timetable. Um, just gonna finish out this year, going to a CD tournament and then, um, do well, March Madness and then see how everything else plays out. Where is this team? Um, definitely gonna enjoy this moment just for the seniors and just everyone just contributing, making sure we got a win on senior night. That was also a little special and a special moment for us. But, um, going to Saturday, uh that at Durham is gonna have that same mindset that we had the rest of the season this whole season just to be hungry, um, thirsty for more like I know like we're a good chance of winning the regular season and, but we still got one more game left of the schedule, so we have to do well, do a good job. Of preparing, um, and just having that same mindset, not taking the full of our gas yet this day and age of, in this day and age of college basketball. It's kind of rare to see players stick around at one school. You weren't Armano to be here for four years, five years. Um, why, um, I think it just the way this program and the coaches and the fans just embraced both of us. Um It's hard to leave a place like this. Um, and I think we were definitely big on development and progress and the progressions and just overall winning. I think me and Mondo, you know, we had, especially him, um, the way he dealt with his freshman year and then our sophomore year going to the national championship and then last year, um not having a great year. Uh, we feel like we had more things to accomplish and overall win. So, um, it's hard to like leave a place out here. I know he's definitely emotional crying about it soon. But, um, that just speaks to how much we love this place and, um, definitely love developing you. Yeah, 100%. We still got games left. We still have one more game on schedule, have AC C tournament and M Rs around. And so, um, there's definitely a lot of games left to play and a lot of goals that we haven't accomplished yet. So we just got to keep moving in the right direction, taking one game at a time. How do you approach a senior day when you're not sure if it is the end? Um Just to go out there as it's like your last game. Um Just have that mindset, just embracing the moment cherishing and having fun and just going out there with just joy all all over your face and across the board just because you never know, like, I don't know my decision. I don't know what I'm gonna do yet. So, just conscious cherishing this and just embracing everything that's coming through. Are you able to put your legacy into words? If, if this was indeed the last time here, it's my, I mean, I hope y'all left a good legacy if it was. But um I'm definitely just proud of how individually of how um I overcame a lot of things and how my season has went and just overall like my journey from freshman year to now, I'm just, just proud of myself of how I persevered and was resilient through everything and just kind of just stayed down and believed in myself throughout everything. So, um that's one thing I'm super proud of myself. I think of Armando's three. I love it. I was the one that encouraged him to shoot it like we was having a conversation um Right before we went out there of uh Alaba underneath and he was like, find me. So I'm gonna, I'm gonna pass it to you. So then he stepped back and they made it. So, yeah, so the game before the game, they were changing one more year. Um Great. I mean, it just, I saw the signs, I ran out there and uh it showed them the video board like right before warm up. So uh it just shows how much like the fans just embrace um me as a player as a student here. Um I just love just playing at this university. I love being a student here. So um I felt great about it's a special moment, definitely gonna cherish it RJ. You know, this may or may not be your last moment. It definitely is our mind. Did you have any conversations with him about how he was feeling about it in the past couple of days or today up to it? No, not really. I mean, we just, I that was, I mean, it was like, bro, you have no more years left. I mean, that's just how simple that was how it was but um just to go out there and just be us and um especially us like we've been through a lot and uh for us to just share that last moment, especially with him because last year for me to share with him just a little special. That's like, that's my big brother, uh one of my best friends. So I just happy for him to go out the way he did.
