Seth Jarvis is the youngest player on the Hurricanes, but has quickly found a home in the NHL. He's got a big personality and a big smile that's rooted in his family and a desire to be himself no matter what. Pat Welter sits down with the Canes second year center.
Jarvis driving ninth away Carlo. He does. Now Jarvis in on all Jarvis back at. So Seth, I asked a lot of your teammates to describe you and the word that kept coming up was energy. He little energize bunny in his room, full energy. Just love being around a guy like that. Where do you think that comes from? I think it helps being young and being the youngest on the team. I felt like last year, that was kind of my job and this year still young. So he's unpredictable sometimes and he said some funny stuff. I mean, it's not, I see you on the ice laughing, smiling, making jokes even during practice. Have you always kind of been like a class clown kind of guy a little bit? Yeah, I think the ice is where I feel the most comfortable and have the most fun. So it's pretty easy for me to go out there and smile every day, especially because you get to practice in here and you see, you can really take it that you are in the NHL in the playoffs like that. So it's, it's been really fun so far. You told my co worker, Casey hints that Rob Brio helped you become a functioning human. What do you mean by that? Someone I can sort of fend for myself now? I mean, I feel like I've taken a big step in my personal life just becoming a functioning human. And a lot of that has to do with the people in the locker room. Like, uh, the older guys that support me a lot. He was just a kid. He got thrown into the adult world here. And, um, you know, everybody has to help the patience of job and Jones, you know, underneath the smile though, you gotta be driven to get to where you are. I mean, what made you want to become a pro hockey player? My brother, a lot of it. He's six years older than me. So I grew up when he was kind of starting hockey and playing hockey. I was just, my mom would carry me into the rank and I, I wanted to be him. I wanted to be just like him. You know, this team has showed a lot of faith in you. I mean, there was rumors of the trade deadline but they didn't want to part with their young core and that includes you, the, the trade rumors where were abundant and there's a few of them. But I mean, it's nice to have the confidence from the organization, the guys in the room. I had a tough year this year during the regular season. But I think came playoff time, I think I've shown up so far. Not a lot of hockey players show personality, but you do, Kiki, please keep doing that for us. I'm gonna try my best. As long as, as long as everyone keeps, uh, keeps accepting that I'm gonna, I'm gonna be myself.
