Pat Welter and Kacy Hintz explain how the Panthers played with passion and purpose during Carolina's victory over Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
and for more on this surprising 21 3 Carolina panthers win over the Tampa Bay buccaneers. Let's go back out to bank of America Stadium where Casey Hintz joins us. Casey. The panthers clearly still looking for the quarterback of the future. The quarterback of the president is P. J. Walker and he looked like a whole different guy today. Yeah, Pat, he looks more composed out here for sure. Interim head coach Steve Wilks said it's going to be hard to pull him out after he threw for 177 yards and two touchdown passes. That's the first time a panthers quarterback this season has thrown for more than one in a game. That says a lot of course. Now walker himself said it felt so good to go out here and get this win and that his guys have trust in him and that the coaching staff trust him with the ball in his hands. He said he wasn't happy going back looking at that film last week in that lost and what he could do better. He said he worked so hard this week in practice and he also had to go through a lot of mental process stuff as far as not trying to take things too hard. He said, trying to go out there, not push the ball down the field, don't try to look for something that's not there. And he said that's what he did differently today and obviously it worked. Yeah, walker look comfortable. Ben McAdoo looked comfortable, probably the best game plan Carolina has had all season on offense. Now look Casey. I think we all had pretty much the same reaction to the christian mccaffrey trade. Okay. The teams tanking whatever you wanna call it for the number one overall pick, there, clearly rebuilding. But steve Wilks was having none of that this week, even after the game. And I imagine the locker room felt the same. Oh, for sure. I actually asked P. J. Walker about that and before he could I could even finish my answer, he was shaking his head and he said no, the men in that locker room have so much pride and both him and steve Wilks spoke about something of team meeting last night and they talked about kind of, you know, panther greats and great rivalries going way back in time and Wilkes told this team to take a leap of faith, believe in one another. And walker also talked about that and said this team wants to go out there and do just that. You heard brian Burns earlier in the show talk about, it looked like the super bowl in the locker room celebrating because this team has fought through so much adversity over the last few weeks. You could really argue really throughout this entire season and they felt like they came out here and they earned this one and I think the word that I used when I asked about the tanking and they all said no, you know, there's too much character in this locker room and too much pride and you really saw that and of course the guy said now it's all about stacking these wins, right? You can't just rest on this one. But considering all the buzz and the tanking, the words surrounding this team coming into today's game, you got to have a good feeling for this group that no, they wanted no part of that. In fact Wilkes, the thing he said, he said this didn't look like a team that was tanking well if there is a unit to build around, it is clearly the defense and we've talked about the reports that that turned down multiple first round pick offers for brian Burns and he was instrumental and taken down tom brady today. How did they make brady look like a guy that, dare I say it needed to be benched? Yeah. You know that sack on tom brady brian Burns said he's been chasing him for three years and after he got that sack on him I think was a loss of 14 yards. He said, he told him I finally got you, he was so excited, he could barely even do his you know little Spider man pose that he always does after a big sack. He was so excited for that. But another thing that the guys talk about though is that you know, you go back to that Saints with the First win of the season and they had a shutout going into the fourth quarter and they gave up 14 points. They didn't like that even though they got the win that day. They didn't like that today. The team came out, they played four full quarters. They also held the bucks to just 46 yards rushing. They were two for 12 on third downs. As you mentioned, they looked like Tom Brady like he needed to be the one like you mentioned, that should be benched out there. The Bucks loses a double digit favorite for the second straight week and this week in this league, you can't rule anything out. Even the Carolina panthers, Casey hands. Thanks so much for joining us.
