Carolina Panthers
Hintz and Lea: The Panthers offense is a disaster
Kacy Hintz and Chris Lea analyze what went wrong during the Panthers loss to the Cowboys on Sunday
Welcome back into Sports extra, believe it or not. There are more things to talk about when it comes to the Panthers. 3310 laws and to help me do that, let's bring back in Wrl Chris Lee, who is at Bank of America Stadium where Chris, that was the site of where boy, this was what I was calling and away home game Bank of America Stadium flooded with Cowboys fans. I saw your tweets leading up to the game. You were seeing that. How much of a factor was that today? Yeah, Casey, I just want to put it in perspective for you for pretty much every game this season so far here at Bank of America Stadium. It's felt like that the other team has had a lot of other, their fans kind of coming here. This is the first time it felt like the Panthers fans were outnumbered and the traffic in downtown uptown Charlotte was completely different coming in. If normally we arrive by 10 o'clock, we're good. We can get to our parking, no problems. We got here about 10 o'clock. It took us another 30 40 minutes to park because it was a lot of traffic down here and a lot more Cowboys Jerseys in uptown Charlotte. So it definitely was a factor. You could hear the Cowboys fans a lot louder than you can hear anything from the Carolina Panthers. So, yes, the way that you express that the away home game, exactly what it was for the Carolina Panthers tonight. Well, as much as things stay the same, they change. What I mean by that is this week we had Frank Reich bringing the play calling back into his hands that also resulted in a season low 187 yards on offense today. Is this more about his ability to call plays or is this just really what the offense is, the offense stinks just to put it out there? I mean, this scheme is old is antiquated. It's, it's not putting any stress on any defenses. A lot of it that you'll see is really just if Bryce Young even has time his receivers are running up 10 yards and turning around and most of those times by the time they get to 10 yards and turn around because they're not running very fast. He's probably on the ground or he's scrambling for his life. So this offense just really isn't good from just the scheme of it. And then top of that, the execution just isn't good with wide receivers who are slow and in the offensive line who just can't protect this. Frank Reich calling the plays really didn't change a lot. It felt like this was a move for him to try to save his job as much as possible. But the scheme is what is a huge problem. There's no stress being put on these defenses week in and week out and that's something that the Carolina Panthers are, you can't change it in the middle of the season. So in the off season, whether it's Frank Reich or another coach who's going to be here, you're going to have to figure that out and have something a lot better for bright young to work with. You're going to go down, go down swinging. Right. Well, finally, we know this, that the margin of error is so thin and then you, you add on penalties to this. I mean, the Panthers were in this one there for a little bit penalties, literally led to a Cowboy score. This is a common theme. It was a huge theme and it was just that one drive, uh, the CD lamb touchdown drive where you had two unnecessary roughness penalties, uh, that kept the drive going for the Cowboys and they were on the Carolina Panthers and it was just one of those things where you're just looking at it and saying, what is this, what's happening? Why is this team so undisciplined for a team? This is the same defense a couple of years ago that was no two in the NFL barely had penalties they did a great job keeping teams from scoring and now it seems like every time another team is in the red zone, they're going to score against the Carolina Panthers and now they're also committing so many penalties to keep these drives going. This team is just a disaster from top to bottom and you thought that this will be a year where you need the defense to keep you in it for most games. And you're right for the first part of the game, it did seem like the defense did that, but ultimately, it just wasn't enough and they keep breaking their own backs and the defense just having, I mean, we're talking about pass interference, we're talking about hits up top. We're talking about unnecessary roughness. All of it has been bad horse collar and a face mask at the same time from Xavier Woods who is just a veteran. You don't expect that from a veteran. This team is like falling off the rails right now and hopefully something can get fixed on that side of the ball, falling off the rails. You put it good, great stuff there. Chris, we'll see if they can get it back on track as they head to now, Tennessee next Sunday, Chris Lee. Thank you so much.
