2020 Player of the Year Sam Mewis returns to NC Courage

Raleigh, N.C. — 2020 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year Sam Mewis is returning to North Carolina Courage as a U.S. allocated player for the 2021 season.
Mewis has signed a two-year contract, keeping her with the Courage through the 2023 campaign. The midfielder is expected to be available for North Carolina’s match on Friday, May 28 against Racing Louisville FC.
Mewis, has earned five major trophies with the NC Courage, won the FIFA World Cup with the US Women's National Team and excelled on the European stage with Manchester City.
“I am so thankful and excited to have the opportunity to return to North Carolina after my time overseas,” Mewis said. “I feel like I am coming home to a team where I know I will be both embraced and challenged. Everyone at the Courage has been supportive of me and my journey over the past several months and I’m extremely grateful for the experience that I’ve had in Manchester. I cannot wait to play in front of the Courage fans again and to do my very best to help us win.”
“Sam has been one of the juggernauts that has driven our success at the club,” Courage Head Coach Paul Riley said. “She has matured into one of the most inspirational and talented players in the game."
The NC Courage 2021 NWSL Regular Season home-opener vs. Orlando Pride is set for Saturday, May 22. They'll also be at home on Friday, May 28 vs. Racing Louisville FC.
