Raleigh, N.C. — Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen is out indefinitely with what the team is calling a "blood clotting issue."
Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said it's not known when Andersen will return to action, but medical staff thinks he's likely to recover.
“During recent medical testing, it was discovered that Frederik Andersen had a blood clotting issue that needed to be addressed," said Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell. "There is currently no timetable for his return, but we are confident that Freddie will be able to make a full recovery.”
Andersen is 4-1 with a .894 save percentage in six games so far this season. Antti Raanta has started four games in net while Pyotr Kochetkov has started two games for the Hurricanes.
Goaltender Jaroslav Halak joined the Hurricanes as a free agent tryout at practice on Monday. Halak is 38 and played 25 games for the New York Rangers last season.
The Hurricanes (7-5-0) host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
