Quarterback Riley Leonard led his team in rushing, including for two touchdowns, to push the Blue Devils to 9 wins in head coach Mike Elko's first season.
Military Bowl: Duke 30, UCF 13
UCF marched 91 yards, including a 37-yard pass from John Rhys Plumlee to Javon Baker, to score with 9 minutes to play.
Duke answered with a touchdown run culminated by a Riley Leonard leaping 3-yard run into the end zone.
Third quarter: Duke 23, UCF 7
The Blue Devils held the ball for the first half of the third quarter before Todd Pelino pushed a 38-yarder over the upright to extend the lead to 16.
Halftime: Duke 20, UCF 7
Duke turned a John Rhys Plumlee fumble into seven points in the second quarter.
Jacquez Moore took a short pass and turned it into a long gain – 30 yards after the catch – to set up the Riley Leonard quarterback sneak for the Devils' second touchdown of the day.
The Devils capped the quarter with a 48-yard field goal.
First quarter: Duke 7, UCF 7
Duke and UCF traded touchdowns in the first quarter of the Military Bowl.
On Duke's first possession, Jaylen Coleman pushed the Blue Devils into UCF territory with a 37-yard rush down the middle, breaking tackles and dragging defenders. QB Riley Leonard and Jaquez Moore added the rest to put Duke on the board first.
UCF followed up with a 14-play drive that ate up 5 and a half minutes with answer with a rush touchdown.
Pregame: Duke, UCF meet for first time in Military Bowl
Duke is set to make its 15th bowl appearance when it faces off against UCF (9-4, 6-2 AAC) on Wednesday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Wednesday will mark the first meeting on the gridiron between these two programs. They do have two familiar foes from the 2022 regular season schedule in Georgia Tech and Temple. The Blue Devils (8-4, 5-3 ACC) went 1-1 against those opponents, while the Knights finished 2-0.
