Charlotte, N.C. —
Ahead of a much-anticipated game for Cam Newton, he's made it known he wants to reestablish home-field advantage for the Carolina Panthers.
The popular quarterback and former NFL MVP is helping that happen by giving away 50 tickets to the game against former head coach Ron Rivera and Washington this weekend. Newton will start under center on Sunday for the team he played for from 2011 to 2019.
Newton says the tickets will go to people who have never been to a game, or rarely get to attend one. Newton has heard of opposing fans showing up in big numbers at Panthers' home games and wants to change that. The tickets are being distributed through his production company, Iconic Saga.
"To the people who have rarely been to a game, or have never been to a game, this Sunday is important for us," Newton said. "We need to reclaim Bank of America Stadium."
Newton wore a shirt with his likeness on it that read "WE BACK!!!" at Thursday's press conference. Newton said the team needs to help "bring the pride back to Carolina."
Last week, Newton scored two touchdowns in his first game back with the team during a 34-10 victory against the Arizona Cardinals.
In 2015, the Panthers went undefeated at home when Newton guided the team to an NFC Championship and Super Bowl appearance.
You can watch the Panthers take on Washington Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX 50, your local home of the Carolina Panthers.
