Ron Francis: First demoted, now fired
In a short press release, the Hurricanes said his contract was terminated and he has been releived of all duties. In March, new owner Tom Dundon demoted Francis to President of Hockey Operations from being the team's executive VP and General Manager. A role he served for 4 years. But in those front office years, the Hurricanes never made the playoffs, adding to their streak of no post season play. His Hall of Fame success as a player didn't follow Francis to the front office. It's an ugly ending for a guy who did so much for the franchise. -
Darling, Ryan named to Team USA for Worlds
USA Hockey announced Saturday that Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Scott Darling and forward Derek Ryan have been selected for its roster for the 2018 IIHF World Championship. The tournament will be held from May 4-20 in Denmark. -
