Raleigh, N.C. — She's a former Broughton High School basketball star and the first cousin of NBA star John Wall. You don't get much more 'Raleigh' than that.
Amber Nichols is making her hometown proud by making history in the NBA's G League. In January she was named the General Manager of the Capital City Go Go, the G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards. That promotion made Nichols just the second ever female GM in G league history.
'Culture State' is all about telling the stories of people who put North Carolina on the map in many different ways, sports included, which made Nichols the perfect person to interview for this week's episode.
In this fun, upbeat interview, Nichols opens up to Dennis Cox and myself about her journey from playing college ball at Richmond, to working in the ticket sales in the NBA, all the way to becoming the General Manager at the Capital City Go Go. Nichols was fun and engaging and is easy to cheer for as she is trailblazing a path for women to hold high level executive jobs in the NBA. The G League is where NBA stars of the future, players, coaches and front office executives get groomed. Do not be surprised if you hear Nichols running an NBA franchise in the future!
