— Legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, Duke point guard Johnny Dawkins and North Carolina legend Tyler Hansbrough are among the members of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame's class of 2023 inducted Wednesday night.

Herb Magee, a longtime head coach for Division II Thomas Jefferson University, and former scout Tom Konchalski were the other inductees for the Aug. 30 ceremony in Chicago. It is the Hall of Fame’s 18th induction class.

With the inclusion of Dawkins and Coach K, the Blue Devils now have 10 former players, head coaches or assistant coaches in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

Krzyzewski was in the class of 2006 for the Hall of Fame, but couldn’t have an induction ceremony until he had been retired for a year.

Hansbrough became the 14th Tar Heel player or coach inducted in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

"I'm honored to be getting inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame," Hansbrough said in a news release posted to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Athletics’ website. "Choosing to play at North Carolina was one of the smartest decisions I've made.

“I had the greatest teammates at UNC and want to thank them. I also played for the best coaching staff in college basketball, and I thank Coach [Roy] Williams and his staff."

From 2005-09 Hansbrough led Carolina to a 120-22 record, three No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, three ACC regular season-titles, two ACC Tournament championships, two NCAA regional titles and Final Four berths and the 2009 NCAA championship.

"I am thrilled for Tyler Hansbrough and his family," said Williams, who coached Hansbrough at UNC. "This award is well deserved and comes strictly from effort, hard work and talent.”

In May, Krzyzewski began his new NBA role as a special adviser to basketball operations.

Krzyzewski joins the NBA one year after completing a storied 47-year career as a college basketball head coach, including 42 seasons at Duke (1980-2022) and five seasons at his alma mater, Army West Point (1975-80). He went 1,202-368 (.766) overall and 1,129-309 (.785) with the Blue Devils, making him the winningest men's coach in NCAA history and at one school.

Dawkins is regarded as a key early figure in Duke’s ascent to becoming a national power. From 1982-86, Dawkins piled up 2,556 points - a mark that stood as the school's scoring record until 2006 and remains second all-time. He was a two-time consensus All-American, a four-time All-ACC selection and was the recipient of the 1986 Naismith National Player of the Year award.

As a senior, Dawkins led Duke to the ACC regular season and tournament titles, and an appearance in the NCAA national championship game.
