Durham, N.C. — Summer Rappaport, a resident of Durham, is representing Team USA in the Olympics on Monday as a triathlete.
She moved to the Bull City in 2020 with her husband.
He tells us you can often find her running on the American Tobacco Trail or swimming at the Hollow Rock Racquet and Swim Club.
Because she's so humble, many of the other swimmers at the club don't even know she's an Olympian, according to Christopher Jax, assistant manager at the club.
"She let's what she's doing in the water and on the course do the talking," Jax said.
She’s dreamed of being an Olympian since watching the games, in 2000, at age 9.
"It's kind of surreal. It was this abstract concept for so long," said her husband, Ian Rappaport. "Even after she qualified, it was obviously a long, long wait. I think it really hit home this week now that she’s there."
She was a college swimmer turned runner at Villanova University. Then, she got noticed by U.S.A's triathlon recruiting team.
Also on Team U.S.A.'s triathlon squad is Katie Zaferes from Cary.
They both compete on Monday night.
