Hansbrough

Scoring over 2800 points and pulling in over 1200 rebounds in his college career, there's no doubt Tyler Hansbrough is on the Mount Rushmore of Tar Heel basketball players. So if he could’ve made money on his name, image and likeness in college, how much would he have raked in?

“I’m not sure how much money I would have brought in but it would’ve been nice to have the opportunity,” Hansbrough said on the latest episode of the 'Culture State Podcast'.

If he did have the opportunity, no doubt Hansbrough would’ve had plenty of businesses wanting his endorsement. However, his stance on it isn’t about what he could’ve gained personally, because he wants every athlete to benefit.

“You take a business school kid on scholarship and they develop a software program, they can sell that software program to any company in the world," Hansbrough continued. "They can do a paid internship. Not for a college athlete, I compare it as the same thing.”

He says it was past time for the NCAA to allow this, not just for the monetary benefits it will give student athletes, but also for the employment opportunities after school is over.

“A lot of college kids will make these connections with these local companies or national companies," Hansbrough started. "If they’re lucky, they’re going to develop these relationships. That’s just going to set them up even more for connections (for a) job when they’re done playing.”

The former Tar Heel big man also believes families should be able to benefit as well…

“When a school (is on the) east coast and they recruit somebody on the west coast and who doesn’t have a lot of money, why wouldn’t they see their kid that’s making a ton of money for the school, why (can’t they) get a free hotel room? Or some type of travel plan or discount when they see their kid?”
