Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes announced forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi entered COVID protocol on Sunday.
According to NHL rules, if Kotkaniemi has tested positive, he must quarantine for at least five days before returning to the team, which means he will miss the Hurricanes' road games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday and the Boston Bruins on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Kotkaniemi has nine goals and 11 assists in his first season with the Hurricanes.
The NHL stopped testing asymptomatic players, coaches and staff who are fully vaccinated following this weekend's All-Star break
