Yup. Out of the lottery again. Pure genius.

Let's not forget David Tanabe, Jeff O'Neill, Andrew Ladd, or Jack Johnson. The Johnson pick wasn't bad, it was just a bone-headed move to deal him to LA because he wanted to spend one more year in college instead of go pro. The rest of them should not have been first round picks.

Yes, I remember Heerema, Tselois, Knayzae. Mike Murphy was brought up and not given a lot of playing time.
It would be nice to see Samson, Dalpe, and young player get time.
Ryan Murphy had no choice but to go to junior's. It's either NHL or junior's this year.
Red Wing's in '02. I went to series. That series really changed after the 3 overtime game. I will say that Red Wing's have found some great player's and groomed them. -

I also have to agree with BringthePain about Rutherford and Karmanos. Have to loosen those purse strings a bit.

The Canes has started slow for 3rd straight season. I do not understand all reason's for the slow start. Yes, They are moving down the draft. Did the Cane's not get Jeff Skinner at 7 and he has 100 points in 2 year's. This past year drafted Ryan Murphy at 12. Ryan almost took someone's spot this year.
The Cane's are not yet elimated from the playoff's. Until they are elimated it make's no sense to tank the season. They get paid to try to win game's.
As for the prospect's in AHL. Some have had chance up here. While the player's were injuried. The Cane's management know's who they want to bring up and develop. If they thought they had someone in minor's ready to stay up here. Then they would not send them back there.
I want to see the Cane's to be successful. What ever it take's. I would love our young player's come and bring another title here to Raleigh/
— Posted by ggkeith1I applaud your optimism. BTW, I was referring to Mike Murphy (hell of a goalie), not Ryan Murphy, who has yet to make it out of juniors. Do some homework. I agree Skinner was an awesome draft pick, and the Hurricanes have done better of late in identifying talent. However, if you want to bring that up, let me add the names of Knyazev, Heerema and Tselios to the list of Hurricanes first round picks. Have you heard of these guys; hope so, because you sure aren't going to see them on the ice. The Skinner draft was also unusually deep. Most drafts have 3-4 guys who can step in and make immediate impact and then you have players who will take development (which doesn't seem to be our strong suit).
As for the young guys, I'm talking about Samson, Dalpe, Boychuk (1rst round pk), Sanguinetti, Brett Sutter, Nash, and Bowman, all of whom average roughly half the ice time of our regular players (when they play at all). If Rutherford believes, as he says he does, that experience is a key part of development, why the relegation of these players to 4th lines and situational play?
You only have to look at Tlusty to see what that giving a guy the chance to develop at the NHL level is important. All I'm saying is "be smart". Muller is responsible for the turn around in style and energy, let's give him something to work with. -

— Posted by ggkeith1Hurricanes and title in the same sentence. LOL. 2006 was a fluke and you guys know it. Don't believe me? How many times have they been to the playoffs since? And aren't they the only team in history to miss the playoffs the year after they won the cup?
Rutherford is a bad GM. Let's just get that out of the way. He could be much better if Karmanos actually had some business sense and would allow Jim to make some good moves rather than order him to stay just above the cap floor. -

Year after year, we put ourselves in a hole to make the playoffs and at the end of the season make a longshot run, thus screwing ourselves out of a better draft pick. I'm not advocating losing games on purpose, but there are ways to turn this disaster to our advantage. Put in Boucher (or Murphy); bring up as many of the younger guys as you can; give the kids some significant ice time on top lines. Why not use this time to evaluate these kids, develop them, get them some experience? It just baffles me. We are a team that needs to build through the draft. Why blow it?
