    Hey Max!

So glad I saw this! I was wondering the same thing. I figured I'd try here because like the Panthers Forum, we have a chance to discuss sports here without the BS. I wonder if it's because some of the radio personalities were criticized?

I wondered about that, shameful when some are so thin skin if that was the case, noticed ECU forum is not listed anymore either, commemorated this weekend with a fellow Marine our 50th anniversary of one of the bloodiest battle in Vietnam, operation Union- we been trying get guys together for a year now, 3 M.O.H were awarded for the operation- will go to Bulls forum next if needed, maybe couple of others will find this.

Glad you were able to reconnect with some of your buddies this past weekend - that must have been a great experience.

I do question why the Panthers forum was taken down, when the Canes forum remained up and running. There was more current activity on the Panthers forum, so why eliminate it, unless the mods didn't like some of the comments. Compared to what is written in the UNC, State, and Duke forums, the Panthers was Pulitzer award winning!

I'll also go to the Bulls if this forum is taken down.
    Keep posting, Max!

Totally agree, Max. We talk sports and get the boot, but the childish smack goes on business as usual on the school forums. Hope Toddler finds this as well as Bishop. I may look in the HS OT site - Bishop used to post there.

I don't know how long you've been here, Max, but there was a time when it was fun ( other than a few igits).

Any thoughts on the NFL draft? I am still amazed that Trubisky is projected to go so high.

  • Maxwell Silver III Apr 25, 2017
    Bench Warmer

the draft is a krap shoot, who knows look at all the top 5 pick that have bust and 3rd round on down that have done extremely well, listen to sirius a lot, Taylor who used to local is ok at times, he had David Glenn on as the one man that knows the triangle area inside and out, that is what self hype will do. I really like Mark Packer, Packer was taking ESPN to cleaners for the way they almost were glorifying Hernandez in death, Packer said the world is better place with him not in it. I was called out for spelling krap the right way

Speaking of that word you can't spell correctly, I'm listening to it now. More self promoting and bragging. I just lowered the volume.

The world IS a better place without Hernandez in it IMHO. Guy kills three people and he's a saint in death. He got away with double murder.

Anyway, yes, look at Seattle and RW. Talk about a bargain with his rookie contract. I like that Texas Tech QB. Saw him on Dan Patrick today. Smart kid.

I don't think the Panthers will have a good year. Looks like the Saints are stocking up.

Ryan Leaf is probably the one example that points "what you see is not always what you get" firmly believe if you are a bad apple then you are probably gonna continue to be a bad apple--wonder how many that could have been a great player, slipped thru the cracks never to be heard from again

Oh he doesn't limit it to the first 15 - 20 minutes. It got unbearable at about 2:30. Had to turn down the volume and turn up the volume of ESPN.

On another note: I'm really surprised that Joel Berry reversed his decision to test the NBA waters and return for his senior season. I don't think he expected to be a first round pick, but what else does he have to prove? I'm just glad he's coming back!

  • Maxwell Silver III Apr 25, 2017
    Bench Warmer

Lot of players see $ sign and a friend says yea I see you could go high-what has surprised me is Mav Rowan deciding to leave, Thomas Allen backed out of his recruitment, but it worked out, surprised that Abu has not said anything yet, if they can hang on Johnson and Kapita should be ok for next year, don't blame players for testing waters as long they take the advice they are given by pros, I see we will be graced by Dukes Allen for another year, hope he uses it to show a decent side of him- but I doubt it!

  • StunGunn Apr 26, 2017

I was hoping Allen would leave, but it's a deep draft, and he might have been advised to clean up his act before going Pro. I doubt he can control himself for an entire year. Can't stand him.

I was wondering about Abu as well. Maybe he likes Keats and is going to stay? Did he already declare? The deadline was Sunday night, I believe, so unless he's already said he's testing the waters, he can't go to the NBA. I seem to recall he was going to test the waters, but that was right after the season was over. He'll be missed if he leaves. Rowan surprised me as well. I think a lot went on behind closed doors that we'll never know about.

  • Maxwell Silver III Apr 26, 2017
    Bench Warmer

Yurtseven should return I don't think he is ready, with all thats coming out I think will be late second round at best, Keatts was put in a bad spot with Allen backing out but Batts was an upgrade, next year will be interesting

  • Maxwell Silver III Apr 26, 2017
    Bench Warmer

just saw where Ted Kapita is gonna test the waters, don't think he has the kind of resume to lead a team drafting, may try him out as a free agent, he seems the type that could improve each year, if he heeds the advice he gets, he should come back. I have saw improvement in Abu each year, he has added a mid-range jumper and foul shooting has improved-Kapita should look at Malik as the future.

  • StunGunn Apr 27, 2017
    Sports Legend

I think more and more guys want to test the waters, especially with the new rules that allow them to test as often as they want. Kapita is no where ready for the Pros, but he does have potential. I think he'll return. Yurtsaven needs another year as well - he struggled in the ACC, but will be better this year. His length may tempt some teams, but he won't be a first round pick IMHO.

I'm not going to watch the NFL Draft tonight, but it will be interesting to see where some of the guys end up. Still surprised at how high Trubisky will most likely go. Good kid, but it's a big question as to his true potential.

  • Maxwell Silver III Apr 27, 2017
    Bench Warmer

I assume Malik Abu is coming back, did not see where he mention testing the draft, with him and Lennard Freeman inside if Kapita Comes back, think Johnson is the key as to how good this team can be.

Didn't Keats land a really good transfer as well? Will be an interesting year.

As for the NFL (still can't believe there's no Panthers forum with the draft going on), I like the Panther's choice. They have a lot of needs, and RB was definitely one that needed to be filled. Ironic that Glennon and Trubisky are now teammates.

  • Maxwell Silver III Apr 28, 2017
    Bench Warmer

they got a Transfer from Baylor, I like what Keatts said he would not take transfers just to get bodies, with what he has got if necessary, got 10 scholarship players, didn't even watch the draft, ESPN has turn this like a lot of other things they do " a spectacle " they have ruined the Heisman award-I seen where they cutting people (some name people) they have tried to get cute over the years and gotten away from what made them popular SPORTS- name dropping with hollywood and music lowlifes- I do not watch ESPN unless its a game that I want to see, then I will go and watch it at a local sports bar. I thinks Keatts should have a decent year next but then his recruiting should come into play.
Some of the ESPN people think its all about them-about the only people I like at ESPN are Chris Fowler, Mark Maye, Herbstriet, people like Vitale, Bilas and others have tried make it about themselves being a star.

Agree. He's a good shooter, but he would definitely benefit from another year at State. Yurksaven needs another year as well. I guess they could both play overseas, but that's competitive as well to find a place on a team. D-League doesn't pay, and there are a limited number of roster spots there as well. I may wrong but I think he has selected people that call in, I have noticed most callers always praise him and if a disagreeing person, he slides out, thanks for the call and then rips the caller when he can't defend himself, Glenn (I am never wrong and I will try to embarrass you if you disagree) only does this when the caller has hung up, I remember one time he was explaining the rules for having a man-card (one was only having two pair of jeans) well when you wear khaki's and preppy shirts all the time, you might only have two pair-I wear Jeans everyday except when playing golf-real men have worked hard in their life and that is one thing Glenn has never done!!!-I may go back to the one of the other forums if this disappears (Duke has less traffic) and just ignore the trolls

I think Glenn was a nerd as a kid, and ignored by women. Since he's successful now, he has to talk about super models, beautiful women, and all the other brags about starting and owning the ACC Journal, state-wide show, yadda, yadda. Yes, most call up and praise him.

Totally agree about your management style, Max. I only managed a few people (worked for small mom and pop places), but never lorded over anyone. DG always has to remind everyone how important he is. If his producer manages to get in a single syllable on-air, DG talks right over him. Most who work for him are very young and have to take it. Well, your family sure was divided in the schools they pulled for. Must have been some fun times when the schools played each other. One of my daughters went to Carolina; the other went to State. I'm a Carolina fan, but respect all programs.

I'm not surprised Piccolo got passes. My brother plays adult hockey, and he was talking to a guy who was on one of the school's hockey teams (might have been Carolina, but I'm not sure). Anyway, college hockey isn't like football or basketball in this area, but the kid got all sorts of passes from his professors. This was before everything hit the fan at Carolina, so it may not be the case anymore. It just shows that the student/athletes have it a lot different than non-athlete students.

I have read some articles, one from SB nation, said this may the best pack fb team since 2003, well I think they can be good, that team had a outstanding defense and had Phillip Rivers, this team may have as good of a defense and offense will be good but they got no Phillip Rivers, remains to be seen how good they can be and they are also in the division with Clemson and FSU plus Louisville has Jackson.

  • StunGunn May 12, 2017
    Sports Legend

I heard on the afternoon show that someone called State's FB team a possible "sleeping giant". That remains to be seen, but they do have a lot of returning talent. Carolina lost a LOT of talent this year, not to mention losing Chizik, although the D did take a step back last season, and I don't know why. We have three months before we can even sniff a kick-off.

  • Maxwell Silver III May 12, 2017
    Bench Warmer

sometimes sleeping giants just keep sleeping-I would not put a lot integrity in the afternoon clowns-don't think Chizik was a great loss, it was a question mark when Auburn hired him, he walked into a great situation and to his credit took advantage of it, he has rode it since then, he was fired at Auburn for a reason. I really didn't think much of Dave Huxtable (I started to say Cliff) at first but must give him credit he has built a darn good defense.

This year is a crucial year for Doeren, 8 wins he is secure but can't backslide next year
9 wins and he is safe a couple of years - 6 or less wins I think he can start packing but down deep I feel good about his future, just has taken a while to get things into place.

Doeren was on the HOT seat last year. State had a talented team, and they were struggling. Losing to Clemson in OT (thanks to that missed chip shot FG) got to them, I think. But they beat Carolina (hated that, to be honest), and that went a long way to saving Doeren's job. Then State won their bowl, which also helped. I don't care for him - he made beating Carolina his platform, and he seemed to whine about having a young team, etc. when his team struggled. But State finished the season strong, while Carolina tanked. I like Cutcliff the best out of all the local FB coaches. I think he's a good guy who truly cares about his players, and look what he's accomplished at Duke. Just my two cents.

  • Maxwell Silver III May 14, 2017
    Bench Warmer

last year during football season, you heard more about Gott being needing to do something, Doeren is kind of low keyed football coach not that fiery kind on the sidelines, I like his approach but it may doom him in the end, I like asst coaches to be more demonstrative, one of my favorites was Reggie Herring, you must want to win all games but to me their some that are different -FSU is the big one for me then Clemson and UNC, we got Clemson and UNC at home, would like to have a fourth "big game" only Duke or Miami could fill it. Now if Notre Dame were to Join and we play them every year. This year I am going to South Bend to see the Pack-Irish game. Playing Syracuse, BC, Pitt, G.T.or Virginia is not exciting to me, Louisville, Wake and VT has their moments

  • StunGunn May 17, 2017
    Sports Legend

Wow - going to South Bend should be a great experience, and I bet State wins. I can see where beating FSU and Clemson are more of a feather in the cap of Doeren, but it's the rivalry thing that makes beating Carolina so important. State has won more than they have lost against Carolina in recent history. Agree about Doeren being reserved, but he sure let loose when he beat the Heels this year. He was whooping it up on the sidelines, probably because he had been so heavily criticized in the weeks leading up to that game. Coaches live in a pressure cooker, and I feel bad for the heat their families have to endure when there's a lot of negativity directed toward the coach.

  • Maxwell Silver III May 18, 2017
    Bench Warmer

over the years coaches have always placed high priority on beating your rival, but they also have had special places for other teams- with Sheridan it was Clemson, Kiffin and Reed just beating anybody was enough, Mike O'Cain was a good person but was a terrible coach, how he lasted 7 years is beyond me, Chuck beating FSU was his mecca, O'Brian took the in-state rivalry to heart probably more than previous, glad to see Doeren putting emphasis on in state shame that we don't play Duke every year, those were some special games-one.

It's a travesty that State doesn't play Duke every year. One thing (there are many) that I hate about the expansion of the ACC, is that the Big Four don't get to play each other every year. That special rivalry should have been preserved. The price of "progress", I suppose.
