Is he actually playing ice hockey or auditioning for Stars on Ice? The only players making any noticeable impact are the younger players who get to play a few shifts, score, and then get re-assigned by Coach Blo because they don't play his dump and chase, clutch and grab, don't try to score style of defensive hockey. The other Staal brothers are having good years, but Eric is invisible.

I agree. He's doing his pops and uncles proud.

I like the way Sutter plays. I also was impressed with how mature he came off in the postgame interview last night.

Yup. And our finishing has been terrible this season. Samsonov and Larose have been killing me. So many blown opportunities. Whit/Jok/Roo have been getting more consistent in that department. Sutter continues to impress.

Most of your big point scorers have a lot of their points via assists. Therefore, it is probable that they play on the ice at the same time as other "finishers".

Got to agree with Kenny here. Numbers are down across the board. Canes were dead last in the league in goals per game last time I checked. Although I suppose it's possible we jumped past the Isles with that sixer outburst last night.
I've liked the move of putting Staal on the wing with Cullen at center and Jok on the other side. You've got speed and creativity opening the center of the ice that Staal can exploit. Maybe we get on a role. Who knows. -

Has anyone taken into account that Staal's production is hampered by the overall terrible play of the Canes this season? If the team becomes more consistent in playing well, then you'll see Staal's production rise.

Well he certainly was AWESOME last night, loved seeing him fight Ovechkin for that puck and empty-netter at end of game last night.

Its pretty clear that Eric has been playing despite still not being 100%. That said, and despite being out for a few games earlier this year, he has 27 points in 39 (total, including games where he was out of line up) games. Not terrible but certainly not as good as he can be. I don't think we have any problem in general with Staal and I certainly don't think he will be traded anytime in the foreseeable future.

Well, after getting five points in last night's game against one of the best teams in the NHL, I'd say Staal may have turned the corner.

I think Staal is still hurt but is playing anyway.

Staal decided he was getting paid so much he doesn't have to produce until his contract comes due again. I think he is scared of getting hit. He is way to shy of pain to be a constant scorer. Trade him now while he is still young. He gets a little older he will be afraid to take the ice. He picked this kind of job now its time for him to do it or get out of it.

He is a brand new father, I think he is not getting the sleep he needs. He will adjust and be fine I believe.

Is that what his problem is this year ? With a salary of $57.75-Mil.for 7-years, he's up there with the superstars like Alexander Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin. The only problem is Staal is not puting up the game numbers these players are. Anyway.....Go Canes !!!!! -

I think Jordan is having a good year so far. He works well next to guys like Malkin, Crosby, Gerin, Gonchar, etc... GO PENS

If they don't start scoring some goals soon to help Cam Ward out, it really won't matter later in the season.

I think Staal will get his points, but I am concerned with his health, especially so early in the season. I really like this team. Rutherford did a great job resigning key players and bringing back Aaron Ward. Unfortunately, The Canes haven't lived up to expectations so far. The season is young and I have hope they will turn things around. That said, Staal's lack of production is a definite concern.

Not good. I really feel like something has to be going on health wise.
Bottom line, he is the team's "star" and the "star" has to produce. He cannot disappear for a long stretch. -

Eric Staal has two goals and no assists through six games. Some say it's early and he'll get his points; other fans want to see more production. What do you think of the Canes' star center so far?
