Since we'll be changing the players, lets change the color announcer too. Tripp gets on many fans nerves and since he never player big time hockey, really doesn't know the game. If he knew the game, he would have made it to the show and would not say the dumb things he tends to say. A change would be good for all. If Tripp is so darn good, he'll hook up with another club straight away.

FINALLY THE TRUTH TOLD ABOUT TRIPPER. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH EVERY WORD BY TARHEEL 1983. HE IS A SORE LOSER BECAUSE HE WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS. SO HE IS WHAT HE IS!!!!

Last season during the Penguins series I bumped into the VERSUS announcers at a restaurant the day between games 3/4. Because Forslund had been announcing some games for VERSUS I told them I hoped they wouldn't steal him. They said they were trying to. One of them (I think Keith Jones) said he and Forslund were good friends, and he/ the network both wanted him to join the team full time. I told them they could have Tripp Tracey instead. And the whole table laughed, as if Tripp's commentary is some inside joke in the announcer community. I don't think he's well respected.

That being said, for the most part I like Tripp, but yeah, he does get annoying from time to time. I don't think he's ever pulling for the other however, and I do agree that all things considered, he's actually a lot more enjoyable than some of the other announcers. The color guys for the Caps/Thrashers/Lighting are not as enjoyable as Tripp is in my opinion. Tripp does give some unique insights, and seems a lot more enthusiastic than the other guys, who are dry and bland, and don't give very inspiring analysis.

I like Tripp I have heard a lot of the other Color analysts and to me none are better than Tripp. End of story.

Tripp Tracy is a horrible color guy.

John is awesome though! One of the best play by play guys out there.

I like Tripp, except when he talks about stuff that is completely unnecessary, like playing (or practicing, I can't remember) without his five hole protective gear...I think we all know what that is. He's a Tripp! I do tend to block him out unintentionally because I am watching the game intently.

It's not just you - he has driven me crazy for years. He totally ruins Forlsund's excellent work. I don't expect his insight ('challenging save' vs. 'too deep in his net') or commentary ('John I just got a text from Arturs Irbe...', 'John I was having brunch with Craig Berube yesterday...') to get any better - but at least STEP BACK from the mic. Every "P" is spit out.

I think that's a function of announcing on radio instead of TV. Radio announcers have to inject the excitement into their call because many of the people listening are not actually watching the action.

    I also have Center Ice.
Forslund is among the very best at his role (Jack Edwards is the worst).
I'd probably put Tripp in the top 10 color guys. He offers insight, especially on the goaltending and defense, that few others offer. He's entertaining, but does say some really stupid things. There's a bunch of color guys that don't bring much to the table other than a famous name.

As much as I like Chuck Kaiton, he's so hard to understand - he garbles the play calling. While I understand the commentators are supposed to provide fair and unbiased commentating, Kaiton gets so excited when someone scores - even the other team, its hard to tell who scored the goal at times. I like Tripp, but I think Forslund is a notch better than Tripp. Both guys are good, and I think they do an excellent job.

It always seems to me that Tripp never really says anything bad about anybody on either team. He can be goofy at times, but Forslund, the coolest announcer around usually keeps Tripp in his place. You can always turn the sound off from the T.V and listen to Chuck Kaiton from the radio when watching the games.

I have Center Ice and therefore see quite a few of the other team's announcers. Tripp is BY FAR the most knowledgeable and also the most entertaining of any of the other color guys out there. One of the best things is he gives us insight into the players as people...off the ice. That is really cool. Keep up the good work Tripp! We love you!

I disagree that Tripp acts as if he's pulling for the other team at times. Yes, they are Carolina announcers but they should be somewhat fair about how they call the game. He is also the color guy and that is what he is supposed to add: color. However, if you really listen to his analysis he offers quite a bit of information and knowledge, it is just mixed in with non-hockey info at times.

I agree that John is very good at his analysis as well.

I'm beginning to dislike Tripp Tracy. As he's talking and talking and talking, I find myself saying, "Shut-up Tripp!"

On the other hand, John Forslund is great at his job. His presence may be why it's taken me a while to become tired of Tracy.

Is it just me or do some of you feel the way I do? I cant stand Tripp Tracy!!!!! He acts like hes pulling for the other team sometimes. His voice is annoying and the other night (I believe it was the game against Tampa Bay) he made a comment about he could take a hit from Gleason. Ok I would love to see that. Seriously, seeing him flat on his back with snot bubbles coming out of his nose and John Forslund standing over him laughing would be hillarious.
