Go figure.....the Canes collapse again. The blame for this season is from top to bottom. So, here it goes....
The owner should take some blame for not being willing to go out into the free agent market and spend some $ for talent.
The GM should take some blame for repeatedly refusing to draft defensive players despite knowing that Wesley and Hedican were going to be leaving. His off season moves haven't paid of either. Alberts and A. Ward have been disasters. He should also take responsibility for some of the dumbest contract maneuvers I can think of (ex: Wallin has a no trade clause).
The coaching is abysmal. Haven't we seen this style of play before? It's time to call a fluke a fluke (i.e. the Cup runs of 2009 and 2002). Doesn't anybody remember the 2002-2003 season? Maurice just does not seem to realize that the "dump and change" system will not work against the better teams in this league. He also doesn't seem to be able to get the team up and focused game to game. At times, the players have looked as if they have no idea of where they should be positioned on the ice. I'm not even going to get into the blind passing techniques that seem to dominate this system. Enough said.
The players also need to take some of this blame. There are some players that are playing hard, but there are also some that seem to take whole shifts off. Last night, some (and I'm not going to name names, you know who you are) just stopped skating. It's disgraceful to watch. If these players don't want to be there, quit, and make room for someone who does. Every player that has been called up has skated with energy and desire. Maybe it's time to make room for them, and send a message to the rest of the team.
