Morrisville, N.C. — Whether it's Sebastian Aho, Andre Svechnikov or Rod Brind'Amour, there are plenty of current and former Carolina Hurricanes players any young hockey player would want to model his game after.
For Jeremiah Slavin, who was invited to participate in the Hurricanes development camp in Morrisville this week, there is only one.
"I would have to say Jaccob Slavin," said Jeremiah who is also Jaccob's younger brother.
Despite the family ties, it's never a bad idea to follow the example of one of the best defensemen in the NHL.
It's really cool," Jeremiah said. "It's a good experience to come here and skate where he skates."
Jeremiah Slavin, 17, is the youngest player in the prospect development camp, and he learned a lot as the youngest in the Slavin family.
"I grew up watching all my brothers play, even my sister. She was the best hockey player out of all of us," Savin said. "I learned from all them pushing me everyday to get better."
The team sees the Slavin family resemblance.
"(Jeremiah) skates a little similar to his brother," said Hurricanes player development coach Peter Harold.
Off the ice, Jeremiah also shares Jaccob's strong Christian faith. "Growing up, (Jaccob was) always a role model to me and taught me how to be Christ-like too and always act like Jesus."
For the younger Slavin, following in the footsteps of big brother brings pressure and fun to camp this week. "We're a super competitive family," Jeremiah said. "Growing up, it was always like, 'I got you better. I got you better, so I always tend to put myself in ways to try to one-up him."
