Morehead City, N.C. — Basketball legend Michael Jordan is still making headlines in North Carolina, be it on the ground, in the air or on the seas.
Tuesday is the second day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City and for the second straight year, His Airness and the 'Catch 23' team are participating.
They reeled in a 442-pound big blue marlin last year. On Day 1 of this year's tournament, they caught a 25-pound dolphinfish.
A record 270 boats are participating this year in the 63rd annual tournament. The team on the ‘Following Seas’ boat currently tops the Big Rock leader board with a 448.8-pound marlin catch Monday afternoon.
Last year’s tournament saw a high number of boats competing as well, but it was missing the component that makes the Big Rock special.
“I think the camaraderie of the tournament events was mainly what was missing,” said tournament president Joy Bell.
Those events in the tournament are returning this year, held in tents outside to promote social distancing.
