NC State football coach Dave Doeren, entering his 11th season with the Wolfpack, could be staying in Raleigh a bit longer. The school's board of trustees approved a one-year extension to Doeren's contract, pushing it to the end of 2027.

"This is home, and I'm excited about the future of Wolfpack football," Doeren said.

Doeren is 72-54 in 10 seasons at NC State, including an 8-5 record in 2022 when the Wolfpack started four different quarterbacks. Doeren went 23-4 in two seasons as the head coach at Northern Illinois.

"We are very proud of the standard and culture that Dave has established for our football program,“ NC State athletics director Boo Corrigan said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing him build on the progress we have enjoyed on and off the field under his leadership.”

NC State has won at least eight games in five of the last six seasons under Doeren. In 2022, NC State reached No. 10 in the AP poll after a 4-0 start. The Wolfpack lost at Clemson and then lost starting quarterback Devin Leary to a season-ending injury in their next game against Florida State.

NC State ranked No. 94 in the scoring offense, averaging 24.3 points per game. The defense was stellar, ranking 11th in the nation at 19.1 points per game allowed.

Leary transferred to Kentucky after the season. The Wolfpack brought in Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong in the offseason. NC State also revamped its offensive coaching staff, adding offensive coordinator Robert Anae and offensive line coach Garrett Tujague.

No new financial terms were released.

In 2022, Doeren agreed to an extension through the 2026 season. Under the terms of that contract, Doeren makes more than $4.9 million in base pay and supplemental compensation. It was a large raise from his 2021 salary of $3.5 million.
