In a recent interview, former UNC President William Friday said he no longer attends college sporting events because too much emphasis has been placed on money.
Swofford has pushed the expansion of the league and the contracts with ESPN thereby increasing the TV revenues.
Recently, the addition of 2 more teams has led many to believe that
long standing rivalries and traditions of the ACC are at risk.
Do you think Swofford has sold out the ACC for personal interests and should resign?
If not, what else could be done to save the ACC's core values that made it great in the first place? -

I think it is right on track to continue success and all the articles I read about the expansion from different sources were praising his work with the ACC. it seems like most of the issues all come from wolfpack fans and their conspiracy theory. They need to build a bridge and get over it!!
Swofford is a good man and is moving the ACC into always being a premier conference! -

I don't think ANY commissioner should have ANY of the member schools on his resume', either as a student or an employee.
it's a clear and concise CONFLICT of INTEREST.
no if, and, or buts. -

As stated on another anti-Swofford thread, every single commissioner that the ACC has ever had was associated in some way with one of the member institutions. I imagine if Swofford's background involved any team other than UNC, State fans wouldn't be crying about bias or resignations. Did you call for Corrigan, James, etc. to resign because of their ties to member schools?

— Posted by masontom56Let me start off by saying I miss the old ACC! I miss the ACC tournament actually meaning something many years ago when there were only 8-9 teams in the league and it wasn't so watered down. I miss the old school gyms like Reynolds and Carmichael and the electricity those places provided! But just like the ACC schools have grown into larger arenas to meet demand due to growth the ACC as a conference has had to do the same thing.
Feel free to look up Swoffords bio and all of his accomplishments since becoming commishener(sp). He had done an outstanding job growing revenue and keeping the teams happy and in place while growing the league.....because he had too! Unfortunately with growth there are casualties sometimes and some of the rivalry games are just that.
If Swofford were not a UNC man we would not be seeing these threads on these boards and all would be well. The rules are the same for all ACC schools....you have the same opportunity as other schools to succeed or not. Some choose to win while others simply don't. In no way does Swofford being the commish have anything to do with that.
He's not going anywhere unless he's ready! Thats a fact! -

the "conflict of interest" FACT doesn't change, no matter the school... UNLESS, each school takes TURNS appointing one of their own to run the league... otherwise, it stinks to high heaven.
fair and equitable =/= someone with prior ties to a member school
it's really not that complicated.
— Posted by WPITH-REMIXSo, at the same time many of your brethren are crying about the ACC not keeping "traditional rivalries" sacrosanct, you think that commissioners who know absolutely nothing about the ACC would somehow be better? Honestly, I'm laughing because I doubt very seriously that you cared about the affiliations of any commissioner prior to Swofford and that the only reason you care about his affiliation is because it is with UNC which you loathe.

Someone with no prior ties to a member school =/= fair and equitable. It only equals no prior ties. I simply posed a question that NO ONE has answered....
and, if they did not invite him, then when he was invited by another member school, the FAIR and EQUITABLE thing to do would have been to politely reject their invitation based on the REALITY that he hadn't attended other member school's IDENTICAL meeting, and thus felt like that would show favortism.
alas, that's the FAIR and EQUITABLE thing to do, and you can't rightly expect that to happen when you have a former employee of one school supposedly doing what's best for 12 schools. -

Do we have confirmation that Swofford was invited to the GT and Miami hearings? I have no idea, just asking.
— Posted by larrys080
he IS the ACC commisioner, and THEY ARE member schools... only seems reasonable that he would have REQUESTED to have been there, if he intended on attending another member school's IDENTICAL type hearing.
no???
— Posted by WPITH-REMIX
Dont you think if it were an issue that these schools would be blasting him in the public eye?
— Posted by larrys080
why?? not everyone takes their disdain for injustice to the "public eye".
btw- you have STILL NOT answered the question.
was him going to ONLY unc's hearing what is best for someone that purports to hold ALL 12 school's best interests in mind???
yes or no?
thanks. -

The hardest part of being a State fan is not only do you have to deal with the constant losing, but you also have to deal with the fact that a good chunk of your fellow fans are completely off their rockers.

Did you know, that several of the more successful ACC coaches were against the last expansion and....were against the ESPN contract requiring them to play in Sunday night games.....but were told to "get with the program" ?

Should we have a foreigner as the President of the United States? Way too much conflict if you are a citizen.....right?

you could reach a lil further, if you had sam perkins' sleeve length.
the President has checks and balances under him to prevent any FAVORTISM... the acc commissioner???
try again.

You seem to be forgetting about the 12 member presidents whom he answers to.
— Posted by Ken D.
so, you think he bounced the idea of ONLY going to unc's investigative hearing (in the spirit of making sure a member school wasn't taken advantage of) and NOT going to other affected school's hearings, off of the other school's presidents BEFORE doing just that???
well then, a LINK should be real easy to find.
— Posted by WPITH-REMIXYou know, I've been a boss, and I've had a boss. There's nothing in the rules for being a boss that says you can only exercise oversight and control if an employee bounces something by you.
As for your comment about finding links, that's too stupid to even address.
You made your position on this quite clear in another thread a few days ago. You said, in so many words, Swofford had to go because you just can't trust any "Tarhole". I accept that this is your rationale - nothing more, nothing less. It is a statement that shows such severe bias on your part that nothing else you say carries any weight.
You may have fooled yourself into believing the arguments you make here, but you're not fooling anybody else. Your entire argument is nothing but smack talk, and not even clever smack talk. -

— Posted by WPITH-REMIXThe answer to your question is simple.......we have no idea (or at least I don't) what goes on behind closed doors. Its possible the other schools didn't need him to appear even if he did offer. If thats the case thats hardly his fault and yes it was ok if he went to UNC's hearing if they requested him too.
If Miami and GT requested him too and he didn't then yes thats a problem. If that was the case though, with the media the way it is now we would already know. -

— Posted by Ken D.Ken, we all know this is a UNC thing and thats it! If the commish was a NCSU grad we wouldn't be having this conversation.
I'm just waiting for some facts that suggests that he has shown favortism. Not going is only a partial fact because we have no idea what was said behind the scenes by the schools involved. Some people just hate and can't get past that. -

when having a member school's ex employee answering for ALL 12 member schools stops being a clear and concise "conflict of interest", then I will be wrong.
no sooner.
it is what it is... REALITY. -

oh, and LOL at "partial fact"... that's CLASSIC!!!
that almost sounds like something we'd read in a tweet from manteets.
