  This is a sad day for Triangle sports news fans. Now instead of being able to get a recap of the sports news from the day before, we will be subjected to listening to 2 guys who could care less about NC sports. I know some of you love ESPN, and dont get me wrong i love thier football shows, but i looked forward to getting my ACC and local sports coverage every morning. This is just my opinion so if you dont agree i undestand and thier is no need to crucify me over it. But i was posting this just to see how the local fans in our region feel about this.

  yeah i agree. leave the ESPN shows to the AM channels. With all of the schools plus the Hurricanes and Bobcats in Charlotte you would think they would have enough local sports news to cover

  well heres a thought...since mark thomas is worthless and boring and irrelevant, take his sorry backside off the air and put mike maniscalco in his place in the afternoons with scott jackson. that would be a solid, competent duo, capable of recapping the previous days events and previewing upcoming games with insight and educated opinions. and thats a great deal more than mark has EVER offered. bye mark! anybody agree?

  I totally agree with mbutler96 and kebonham that it would be better to leave ESPN to the AM channels and leave 99.9 The Fan as it was - covering LOCAL sports, which we are lucky enough to have here. With all the great rivalries we have here, plus the Canes and Panthers, there is plenty of local sports to cover. I relied on The Fan to provide all the ACC and other local sports news. That will be gone once Mike&Mike hit our airwaves - tomorrow. Totally sux.

  Ok.. I have an Hour drive to work every morning and I loved listening to the Fanatics!! Now this morning I have Mike and Mike from ESPN!! WHAT!!! I'm very upset!! I wanted to hear about how State Stomped Miami and other ACC news.. but no, I get boring Mike and Mike.. I loved the Fan because it was local and very entertaining, but now its going to be worthless... I love the insiders too but I bet they are only gonna be around for a few months and they will be gone too! Good job The FAN you just lost one!

  This does suck, very much so. I recently emailed 99.9 the fan about this and i got a response that was pretty much a promise that the changes would be for the better for the fans of 99.9 as a whole. Well I gotta say that i am far from impressed with what was supposed to be for the better. I am highly dissapointed to be exact. And to the person who said Mike&Mike were boring. Ahhh man that was an understatement. Then we have to listen to some moron from 11 to 12. Just to only get teased with a one hour show from a local guy that many of us have come to like to listen to. Then we have to listen to more ESPN hoopla from 1 to 3. Then we finally get back to our regularly scheduled programing. Why not just give Mike Maniscalco a 3 hour show from 12 to 3. Then we can have 6 full hours of local sports news since it seems they are gonna keep this ESPN thing goin. 99.9thefan has totally ruined thier station. Will people still listen , yeah probably but not as many that were listening. I think they will see a big drop in listeners over the next few months. Then maybe we will get our morning show back.

  If you are going to carry ESPN. Air all 3 hours of "The Herd" or give it back to 620 The Bull. It is the best show I've heard in years.

  I completely agree with those who miss our local sports coverage in the morning. Who around here really cares about anything that ESPN's Mike&Mike ramble about every day? I want my Fanatics and Dan Patrick back...at least I can stream DP at work. One question for the FAN management: Why, why, why!!!! oh yeah...$$$...so sad, so sad.

  I guess the proof is in the ratings or whatever, but the Fanatics and DP (Dan especially) were the main reasons I would tune in beyond non-televised Canes games. There goes that. 99.9 lost one pair of ears listening to their broadcasting prior to 3pm.

  850AM has a local morning show; may not be the greatest, but better than nothing. From what I understand about ESPN, if you sign up with them, you pretty much have to air Mike & Mike (for that matter, they would prefer you run their programs 24/7, from what I hear). Since their ratings have been pretty abysmal as a sports station (I believe worse than 850 & 620), I'm guessing that 99.9 felt like they had to do something and maybe hooking up with ESPN would help. Don't think it will, though, in my opinion. ESPN's evening show and Mike Tirico in the early a-noon are about all that is decent, ESPN-wise. Jim Rome, while at times annoying, is better than The Herd, Primetime is much more interesting than anything ESPN or Fox has, as well.

  Incredible, the first decent local sports programming in a market that deserves it, and we cannot keep it. I loved the Fanatics and the Insiders, all the ACC, Canes, and even High School football information was wonderful. I was really starting to think that someone figured it out......I guess not. The fan will be good for Canes games beyond that, its a non-starter. If I cannot listen to Sports Radio in the AM(come on really Mike and Mike????????), then I wont listen at all. The radio in my car was tuned to 99.9 for almost 2 months, but I had to change it this morning, likely won't tune back unless there is a Canes game on while I'm driving somewhere......

  Man, am I glad I never switched from 850 (except to listen to 620). Adam Gold and the morning crew are so much better than the original programing on 99.9 and the Mikes that are on now. Keep it up 99.9 and soon things will be back to the way they were a few months ago. But even now there really is only one (or two if you count 620) real sports radio station in the triangle.

  Maybe WRAL should find some local people to do their radio instead of a bunch of "yankees" who want to talk buffalo, ND, patriots, giants, etc. instead of NCSU, DUKE, UNC.

  I have to agree with many of the prior posters. I really enjoyed listening to the Fanatics during my morning drive. I really liked Mike the most, but found his cohosts tolerable at best (that would be Mason, because Rothenberg sucked). Now, I get stuck with Mike & Mike which is just trash. Cowherd is okay I guess, but he's no Dan Patrick. Of course, I don't know how anyone can post that Adam Gold hosts a good show because he was one of the main reasons I stopped listening to 850 (not to mention the py AM signal). I listened to 620 until they did the same thing to their morning show. Having said that, I'll subject myself to M&M before I listen to Imus or Gold.

  I thought that Mike & Mike was awful on TV, then things got worse because they are on my favorite radio station. I liked DP & Tim Brando, and if they ever get rid of the insiders,I will give up on Raleigh radio all together.Mark does get on my nerves , but that is the whole point of the show.I feel that Scott & Mark work well together, and they are the only guys I have ever called every week.

  I agree that Mark can rub people the wrong way sometimes because he played at NCSU. But like masondawg said they do work well together and compliment each other and make for a really interesting broadcast. The worst part about the deal is when you watch ESPN on television you want to get in your car and hear about the local teams and now you're just hearing the same cycle over and over again. Keep local stations local.

  Please bring back David Glenn!! At least he was knowledgeable about a broad range of most sports instead of the bald joker in his time slot now, Ahhhh-dumb Gold. His nasally voice is grating along with his stuttering on air.....did he actually get a degree in Broadcast Journalism?? Listening to him stutter on air saying AHHH every other word it sounds like I'm at a dentist exam chair. I'm sure his only experience with sports was passing out water cups on the sideline in school. Miss the David Glenn show everyday!!
