Certainly a good point - I can only hope that a year with relatively few injuries among the offensive linemen and a full year of seasoning, combined with finally being two deep across the board, means the offensive line can really start progressing under a coaching staff historically known for churning out NFL linemen. Just like most everything, time will tell ... GO PACK!!!

Defense looks solid, even with the loss of Irving. What about the 0-line? Wilson was able consistently extend plays with his quickness and legs. Glennon has a gun for an arm but is more of a drop-back guy.

I disagree with u on our LB situation. I've heard that EJ Carter (transfer from syracuse) has stepped in nicely, add him to Sterling Lucas, Dwayne Maddox, and DJ Green, and we have some experience/depth at that position. Terrell Manning made mention after the spring game that the defense is "faster" this year, and I'm apt to believe him, because we return 8 starters and at least a dozen guys who've seen many snaps, so they're more comfortable and can anticipate better. At safety we've got Bishop back, Wolff, Dontae Johnson, and Haynes moved back over to safety... So again, the experience is there. I think QB, RB, and WR are the biggest ?'S, but I'm not worried about any of the 3, because there again, the experience is there at WR and rb and we've got a potential all star chomping at the bit to get some snaps as our leader on O.

    Go Pack!

-So are you saying the Rockies have made some sort of decision in not even allowing RW to come back? I just didn't know if you knew something, cause I haven't really read that anywhere. Personally I thinka lot rides on how well his season goes in Asheville; which I might add is my hometown and I will be seeing him this thursday while on Easter Break. But if I was a bettin' man, I would say no #16 next year.

Thank you Kenny for being of sound mind and not just throwing barbs the whole time. I truly appreciate that.

NCSU's biggest questions on offense are Glennon and the receivers. The running back that was a DB went back to DB. I think the o-line and the running game will be solid.

On defense, I think the LB's and safeties are the questions. I think we'll have a solid d-line and our corners should have good coverage - we'll see about the run. Audie Cole moved over to middle LB to replace Irving. Not sure if his speed to the ball is equal to Irving's but he sure is tenacious and has an excellent nose for the ball. I would like to see us blitz more, especially when we see the spread. I expect to see a lot of cover 2.

I was a defensive coordinator in high school. If anyone would like to have intelligent conversation re: defense, please let me know.

I disagree, but not with your opinion that Glennon is better than Russell (that may or may not be true, but it's an opinion). What I disagree with is your assertion that we'd have gone undefeated had Glennon been the starter all year. I'm not doubting his ability, but rather the ability of our offensive line to adequately protect him. The best QB in the world can't win games if he's lying on his back. Russell scrambled and bought time when needed. Glennon (I assume) is not the scrambler that Russell is, and it might have been a disaster if he had been the starter.

I think this year we're ready to protect Glennon. And we'll get to see if he's better than Russell or not.

With Wilson gone playing baseball I think TOB is just stating that the show must go on. Glennon deserves a vote of confidence from his coach when the other guy isn't even on campus.

  • kennywalters Apr 19, 2011

I think in reality we can look at both teams and say there are some questions at the QB spot due to inexperience. I think fans of both teams expect their young QBs to do well based on what they were thought to be during the recruiting period. Now, it is time for them to step up and deliver on the field. We'll see how Renner and Glennon perform. Due to last year's problems, UNC's defense isn't as inexperienced as Scotty is trying to make out. A lot of guys got significant playing time last year due to the various suspensions. I believe UNC will be fine on that side of the ball. Biggest question hanging over UNC right now (other than QB) is the recovery of Ryan Houston from his spring game injury. If Ryan's injury heals quickly enough and allows him onto the field in time for the season, then I think UNC has the chance to be good on offense this year. If he doesn't make it back, then the running game has to be as big a question mark as QB. Honestly, I haven't looked at State's returning/non-returning list so other than Glennon I have no idea what questions you guys might have.

unc-ch has a MUCH STEEPER hill to climb this coming up season, than does the Pack.... look at the attrition the holes have on the defensive side of the ball (nevermind losing the only QB that had any real time behind center in a college game), while the Pack bring back 8 starters from the their D.

TRUE! But State is losing one of the better QBs in their history if Wilson does not return. And if you think that Glennon will be your saving grace this year, then have at it. Do you think that Russell Wilson just ignored his "great" pocket pass protection and decided to scramble and run just because he wanted to? If so, think again! I think I said Brynner earlier when I meant Bryn Renner. Sorry Bryn.

What does HB have to do RW? Absolutely nothing, say it again. The statement was only to cause State fans more confusion. One question that no one is asking is what will Carolina do if T.J. Yates decides to come back? Will they throw Brynner under the bus? What if Durant decides to come back? Will they throw Yates under the bus? What if I decide to come back? Will I start or warm the bench? Will they just park the bus? These questions need to be addressed as well. My stats were excellent last year. I didn't have one single interception the entire year while completing 0 of 0 passes for 0 yards. I also ran for 0 TDs. Does anyone think that I should be the starter on opening day? It doesn't get any better that that.

I know that part of what I state was UTTERLY FALSE. I was being sarcastic. I do believe however that without RW the past three years, State doesn't have a winning season. I was being sarcastic in my comments. Look again. His stats were better in the first four games than in the last nine games. His completion percentage was better and his TD to Int. ratio was better.

Did I fail to mention that Wilson also accounted for 9 rushing TDs in 2010. Can Glennon do that? State fans had better pray that Wilson comes back. Yes, and it took him 2-3 games before he was getting back to his old self. Missing those practices hurt him......By TruthBKnown Returns

First of all, Mike Glennon is better than Russell Wilson and the Wolfpack would have gone undefeated in 2010 if Glenon has been the starter the entire season. This is a fact that does not need any further discussion. Just take a look at Russell Wilson's slow start last year. In the first four games he only completed 85 of 142 passes (59.9) for 1,112 yds. (278/game) with 11 TDs and 1 pick. In the last nine games Wilson completed 223 of 385 passes (57.9) for 2,451 yds. (272/games) with 17 TDs and 13 picks. It's very easy to see that Russell Wilson's last 9 games vastly overshadowed his first four. Does anyone else agree?

Last season didn't Wilson not play fb last spring either? If an All ACC QB comes back the coach will start gearing the offense toward him - you know it and I know it - this is a ploy to keep Glennon plain and simple. What should be said is "right now we are moving forward as if RW is not coming back - Glennon is our starter."

Yes. You're right about that; TBK. I liked that Frank Beamer shared some time with big brother Glennon/Taylor. We won games with Taylor. Taylor was the best by far. Glennon choked in the big games. His stats say this.

TOB doesn't owe anyone anything. They have a free education. Heck. I always played the best on any level when I was coaching. I did hear about it from some of the powerful parents, and the BOE. Win. That's all.

That's probably true. TOB tells them ALL the same thing: The BEST player at any given position starts. No one owns the position.

But this is Glennon's job to lose. We're building/tooling the offense around him. And it's a different offense than it would be if Russell came back. I believe he would take the starting job back eventually, but not for 3-4 games probably. He wouldn't be in game shape at the beginning, like last season.

Yeah I agree jcinncar, it's probably a small chance that Russell even comes back...but if he doesn't have a good season with the Tourists, I wouldn't be surprised. But with the threat of Russell being the back up, I don't seem Wilson even attempting coming back...but he has always said he wanted to play pro football more than baseball, so who knows..

  • jcinncar Apr 18, 2011

If there has ever been a head coach at State I respect and admire it's the head football coach they have now. He is a fundamentally sound football coach whose team is usually going to block and tackle better than the opposition. He appears to be a straight-shooter as well. The best thing he can do for his football team is to go with Glennon.

Russell Wilson may or may not come back to the team this fall (if I represented Rockies management he wouldn't). I think Wilson understands the position he would put TOB in with Glennon should he want to come back. Bottom line, I think TOB can handle the situation with the two players because it's very likely that they both respect their coach a great deal. I think Glennon will be the starter and Wilson will be content (polite word) to be his backup. Should Glennon struggle I think Wilson will replace him. But, unless Glennon completely makes a mess of it, I think it's his team.

  • VT1994Hokie Apr 18, 2011
    Sports Legend

TBK. People on here can't remember what they stated last month, a week, nor tonight at 6:38 if they don't follow-up. I say this. If Wilson comes back..........he will use Wilson. Non-conference games will be mostly with Glennon. I would too.

If State is in a close game; I would play the best up to this point. Wilson has more talent, and he can run the ball. Glennon will be a solid drop back QB. I can see him rolling out. But, not a sprint.

He could lose his status when State begins the ACC games. I think TOB would split some time with the two. But. When it comes down the win. Glennon will sit and watch. This is only if Wilson comes back. I think he might just do this.

  • mrwuf2012 Apr 18, 2011

I think that if Russell comes back, Glennon will at least get the first shot at starting QB but I'd say the if its not looking so hot, to see #16 coming back in..I think TOB made the right move by giving Glennon the confidence of not sitting the bench so he wouldn't transfer..if he didn't make that call we could have been without either QB next year. Either way we will have a good QB next year, and I'm excited to see what Glennon has up his sleeve, I've heard he is solid.
