Miami Gardens, Fla. — Cam Newton had a day to forget, and the Carolina Panthers lost on the road to the Miami Dolphins, 33-10.
Newton completed only 5 of 21 passes for 92 yards with two interceptions in his first road start since his return to Carolina (5-7). He was pulled in the fourth quarter for P.J. Walker.
On the flip side, fellow former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 27 of 31 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown for Miami (5-7).
The Dolphins got on the board first when Duke Riley blocked a Panthers punt and Justin Coleman recovered for a touchdown.
Carolina tied the score later in the first quarter on a Newton 1-yard touchdown run.
After Netwon's second interception of the second quarter, Tua Tagovailoa threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle to give Miami a 14-7 lead.
The Dolphins added a 3-yard touchdown from Myles Gaskins with 4:32 left in the half.
Right before halftime, Frankie Luvu recovered a botched Dolphins snap and returned it all the way to the Miami 24 yard line to set up a 41-yard field goal from Zane Gonzalez as the halftime whistle sounded to cut the margin to 24-10.
Gaskins ran for another 3-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and in the fourth quarter, Jason Sanders made field goals from 46 and 33 yards.
The Panthers have next week off before returning home to face the Atlanta Falcons.
