The Carolina Panthers have come to terms with first overall pick Bryce Young, the team announced Friday.
The Panthers and Young agreed to a four-year contract worth a fully guaranteed $37.9 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The contract also comes with a $24.6 million signing bonus.
A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press the same terms of the deal reported by Schefter and Rapoport. The person spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose the terms publicly.
If Young stays in a Panthers' uniform, the team would have to decide on his fifth-year option for the 2027 season.
Young's deal comes the day before Panthers rookies report for training camp at Wofford. Veteran players are due to report on Tuesday.
Young was the final member of the Panthers' 2023 draft class to get his deal finalized.
The Panthers traded up with the Chicago Bears from the ninth spot to get the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Carolina used the pick to select Young, giving them a potential long-term solution at quarterback — a position where they have struggled to find stability for years.
The 5-foot-10, 204-pound Young won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 for Alabama, where he was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide. He finished second in school history with 8,356 career yards passing and 80 touchdowns.
Young took over first-team reps in OTAs. He will compete with Andy Dalton for the starting quarterback position. Dalton is entering his 13th NFL season.
