Saw on ESPN that Josh Norman reached out to the Panthers when he heard they had rescinded the Tag, and expressed that he wanted to remain with the team and would sign the tag or agree to a one-year deal at "market value" (whatever that is). Gettleman said, "No", and blamed it on Norman's agent (whom he later "fired"). As much as Norman is a loose canon, I think Gettleman should have come to an agreement with Norman, knowing it was for one year, and use the year to evaluate Norman and see if he was worth the big bucks he was demanding in the future. The Panthers play Washington Dec 19th, and I bet Norman has the date circled on his calendar.

many of great talents let the 6 inch ear zone be their downfall-just my 2 cents

You may be right, Max. Just speculation, since like you pointed out, nothing has been said by teammates. Perhaps if the Panthers kept the tag on Norman, couldn't come to a contract agreement, and he didn't show up for OTA's (like he threatened), as well as other practices, and possibly even games, he would become a big distraction, and players might resent him. I do think he's a me-me-me guy, and he got pretty mouthy during the season. It's a shame, because he's very talented and the Panthers sure could use him on their roster.

Only thing I can think of- he was probably gone after this year, Gettleman seems to be a No nonsense kind of guy. I may be wrong but Norman seem to be a me first guy and was relishing in his instant popularity, being a team player is first and foremost, he may have been a locker room problem that was only gonna get worse. Gettleman may was hoping for 1 more year but things escalated and he said enough is enough. Usually when a popular player is let go you instantly hear other players airing displeasure -not a peep that I know of, silence may be louder than anything-----thats my 2 cents

Would love to have him in the Steel City. Most of your great players come in the late rounds. Can you believe Antonio Brown was taken in the 6th round?
— Posted by Toddler10-21Wow. Brady was a sixth round pick as well. Amazing talent to be on the board that late, and in the case of Brady, who knew? And I thought Pete Carroll was so smart to get RW in the third round!

I think he will sign with a team that will play the Panthers this year. Maybe a team in the division so they will play twice.

That's exactly what I was afraid of, T! I can see Norman taking the highest bidder, with a team that plays the Panthers being a bonus. He'll want to show the mistake they made in letting him go. And I do think they made a mistake. Too many good players aging out - Kalil, Olsen, Davis - especially Davis. For the Panthers to make another run at the SB, the window is small, and it's closing, and with Norman exiting, it got really small. Gettleman may be good at finding the bargain players that other teams overlook, but it took several years for Norman to develop into the player he is today, and the Panthers don't have a ton of time on their side. Fifth-round players of Norman's caliber don't come around too often.
Also heard the Steelers were interested. So were the 49'ers, Jets and Dolphins.

— Posted by Maxwell Silver IIIOn the surface, it looks like a HUGE mistake by Gettleman and the Cats. I agree that there must be more to the story. The Panthers had the money to tag him and still have cap room. He's a loose canon, and he ran his mouth. He also fired his agent after the Panthers cut him. Thing is, he's good. Really good. And now the Panthers are thin in the corner position, and they won't be able to get a good free agent, since most have already signed with teams. The timing of this is really strange, which tells me there's more to the story than is being told.

— Posted by StunGunnlistening to a out of town radio show - they seem to think there is a deeper issue here- sometimes its better to get rid of a bonehead before it bites you-think Gettleman probably making a smart move, between HB2 and Norman local radio is losing their minds-

I'm surprised by this move. I understand that the Panthers and Norman weren't going to be able to reach a long-term contract agreement, but I was hoping they'd get one more year with him on the roster to bolster their chances to make another run at the SB. Norman was a head case at times, but there's no denying his talent.
Your thoughts?

This guy is too good to end up on a bad team that could pay him top dollar. Remember Revis signing for the big bucks a few years ago with Tampa Bay? I hear my Steelers have interest, but I cant see it.
