The AD must make contact in Dayton, it can be done, do not advertise it like Fowler did, job in Raleigh is a diamond in the rough, great facilities, passionate fan base - need a coach with fire and passion, Gott has gotten us to a better level but he has hit his ceiling

Hard to argue with you, Max. Too much talent on State's roster to have this record. Losing to FSU - in Tallahassee - is nothing to worry about; but other losses are. Maybe Lutz was behind a lot of State's success, and now that he isn't on the bench, they're struggling. At this point, I don't know what to think.

  • Maxwell Silver III Feb 8, 2017

it will depend on how fed up the big contributors, they are the ones that will call the shot, I have heard they are not happy -heard it said Debbie will not fire going out the door, that will be the next AD's job, if Gott can coach he needs to step it up, personally I think Lutz had a lot to do with how good those early teams were, Moxley and Early are the recruiters, I do not see a lot of fire out on the court this year-just observation!

When Gott came in, he said he welcomed the opportunity to be in the same playground as Roy and K, and I think he did. Gott wants to win, period. What I don't like about Doeren in that his entire platform was beating Carolina. Carolina is one team - beat them all.

As for State/UNC - I see State winning that game. If you want Gott-fired, that probably isn't good news for you, because beating State and Carolina in the same season goes a long way towards Gott keeping his job.

I'm tired of being behind Duke/UNC. Will it ever change? I remember when it was all about UNC/State. You're right Gott can coach, but i'm tired of the we played hard excuse.

Gott can coach - look at all the times he got his team to the Dance. One mistake I keep seeing is that he tries to be friends with players instead of being a Coach. You don't see Roy or K trying to be friends. Lowe was a sentimental hire, and State was trying to cash in on the '83 Natty. I did see all the empty seats for the past few games. That could prove to be the final nail if State doesn't turn things around.

yea, excuses are getting repetitive, welcome is wearing thin, Sidney's hire was a grasping for last straws, Gott was a last minute reprieve-whoever is AD I hope will handle this hire a little better, all the empty seats for Syracuse and Miami is an eye opener( most second tier conference games will have some empty seats but not that many) as Jimmy said we love you -gonna miss ya but we still love ya!!-another note NCAA and NFL and the rest need to quit blackmailing government laws because they don't agree with them but set up your tournaments and STFU!!

Cat was quicker and could get those charge calls better anyone, Dennis is a better outside shoot, both could drive to the basket, Cat was automatic on that little pull up jumper, Abu is a solid player, Yurtseven is like most big, slowly getting better, will blossom next year, think Kapita is gonna be Richard Howell type player, talent is there and will be there next year-maybe a new coach and fresh approach will be good for all.

  • StunGunn Feb 5, 2017

Yeah, T, the Lady Pack are kicking tail. Beat Duke and I think Same as well.

I don't know what to make of the men. They don't seem to have ego issues. I don't see any attitude problems either. Strange outcome for all that talent. Gott can still win enough games to make the Tourney. I see them beating Carolina. Beating both rivals will go a long way towards Gott keeping his job. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing if you're a State fan.

Yeah I understand his situation. watched part of a D League game last week and CJ Leslie was playing. Best player to come out of State in a long time is TJ Warren. he is putting up numbers for the Suns.
Pack women's team is doing very well.

Tandem PG's is a delicate situation - egos can get in the way. As good as Cat was, I think Dennis Smith is even better. I think Cat wanted to support his family - he had a daughter to think of, plus he gave State everything he had, every game. I think he was ready to move on.

  • Toddler10-21 Feb 3, 2017

Little bit too late for BJ. His college career is just about over.
Agree Max about Cat/Smith duo. Would remind me of Jones/Cooke duo at Duke. Both can score and play the point. Cat I think is somewhere in the D league or overseas. SMH. Wish he had of stayed.

You may be right, T, but other players like Abu seem very motivated. Maverick and Henderson work hard, but you may be right: maybe BJ needs a kick in the shorts to get him motivated. I'd think his diminished playing time would provide some motivation though.

  • Toddler10-21 Feb 2, 2017

Point exactly Gunny. Meeks has worked very hard and it shows. BJ could be a standout player, but he seems to me that he doesn't want to put in the work. Starts with coaching IMO.

agree broken record after losses, we are on track when we win, I think Gott has hit a ceiling, got to plan ahead for our next coach, with recruiting -last year with a last minute save look bad and this year looking like a repeat

It's a delicate balance between criticizing players and supporting them, and knowing what to do and when to do it. I've heard Roy find a bone to pick with a player who scored a double double, hit the game winning shot, but missed some FT's or had a stupid foul in the game. Gott finds things to praise, even in defeat. Last year Gott was very frustrated with his players for not being tough enough, and after he criticized them, they responded. Gott does seem to want to be a friend first and a coach second, and that can be a problem. Yeah, BJ put on the pounds. It took Meeks a while to slim down, and he's playing his best ball now. I'm happy for him because he's obviously worked hard and he seems like a good guy.

I wouldn't count State out of the Dance - still time left to get it together and finish strong.

  • Toddler10-21 Feb 2, 2017
    Sports Legend

I'm so tired of Gott saying he feels bad because we played hard. Your team played hard, but you gave up over 100. Also BJ has been over weight since he got to State and comes back from summer break gaining 50 more pounds. That sure didn't happen at UNC with Meeks.

I was wondering the same about Gott being jealous or insecure about Lutz, Lutz was always so animated on the sideline - maybe he stepped on Gott's toes a little. If the players liked him a lot, that may have been an issue as well. I heard he was a great recruiter. But Gott seems to be a players' coach - he supports them, even during losses, and tries to work with difficult players, like CJ Leslie. Time will tell, but with all the talent on the roster, I can see fans being restless if State doesn't make it to the Dance. Gott did it with a lot less talent, so I think he'll do it this year as well.

  • Maxwell Silver III Feb 1, 2017

the Lutz thing is puzzling, he was a great recruiter along with Early, Lutz acted more like a head coach on the sidelines during games maybe there was a little -- hesitate to say the J word -Yow will not fire or hire anyone, believe this is her last year, hope they can find a good replacement!!

  • Maxwell Silver III Feb 1, 2017
    Bench Warmer

with last years recruiting that was saved at the last minute and this year seems to be going down the same path, Gotts numbers better start to pick up, the seat is pretty warm right now but could cool down or get warmer by seasons end, a new AD may want to start fresh if BB has a disappointing year, I believe DD will have a good year, 7-5 or worse could make it interesting-another 3 cents observation

I don't think Yow wants to fire/hire coaches when she's close to retirement. Pains me to say it ad Carolina fan, but I think Doeren will have a good year next year.

I wonder why Bobby Lutz was pushed out. He's a good coach - Charlotte made a mistake giving him the boot. Heard the players really liked Lutz.

  • Maxwell Silver III Jan 31, 2017

Lost their best asst coaches in last couple years, I think that has something to do with it, whoever replaces Yow, may have to pull trigger quick and Doeren needs to have a good year

I don't get why Atlanta is building a brand new stadium - right next to the current one! I read the PNC as well as Smith Center need renovations. Been in both, and don't really see why, but what do I know.
I'm surprised at State's struggles. I get the suspension, the injuries, but Gott has one of the best PG's in the country - a Top 5 lottery pick, Rowan, Henderson, Abu, etc. He has a full cupboard, but they're not performing as well as I'd expect. That said, going to L'Ville is no easy task, considering L'Ville's D. Look at what happened to Carolina at an un-ranked Miami. I still think State wins enough to dance, but thought they'd be better at this point.

  • Maxwell Silver III Jan 31, 2017
    Bench Warmer

the Ga. Dome was only 7 years old when the PNC was built, Smith center is older than that, Reynolds and Cameron are over 60 years, its almost like its a new toy to people. Braves are getting a new Baseball stadium, my first game was Fulton County stadium, then there was the Ted and now something new!!-random thoughts on a slow day-my 3 cents

  • Maxwell Silver III Jan 31, 2017

any rumors about who will replace Debbie Yow and will some heads roll!!!-I hope that Atlanta team that smacked GB shows up for SB 51- these new stadiums that are being built and costing millions, how long does it take before they paying for themselves, the maintenance has to be extremely costly

The UK/KU game was good - Kentucky owned Kansas in the first half, but Kansas managed to turn it around in the second half and won.

L'Ville was all over State today - State looked like Carolina did yesterday. So many top teams went down this week, I thought State might beat Louisville, especially since they were without two guards. Their defense took Dennis Smith out of his game. Abu showed up, but he couldn't win the game alone. The ACC is wide open this year. Oh - the 'Nova/UVA game was great - in the late part of the second half. Bennett can definitely feel Roy's pain. With 11.5 ticks left, 'Nova called a TO, and went to work. With NO time left on the clock, a freshman for 'Nova who hadn't scored all day, tipped in a missed shot by Hart, and won. Feel bad for UVA, because they owned Nova all game long.

Agree about the Pro Bowl - don't mind that they don't play much D, because why injure someone. Like the AFC vs. NFC model.

  • Toddler10-21 Jan 29, 2017

the only thing I hope for in the pro bowl is nobody gets hurt. Didn't see the UNC/CANES game yesterday. The NCAA's should be wide open because their aren't any number one's. UK/KANSAS game I heard was a good one.

I may tune into the Pro Bowl for a few minutes because there are several Panthers playing in it. Want to catch the State/'Ville game though. The Heels stunk it up at Miami yesterday. They were totally unprepared. Laranaga out-coached Roy all day.

Le'Veon Bell had a heck of a year. Was looking at his numbers, 1268 on the ground @ 4.9 a pop, and 75 grabs for over 600 yards. He should be in the MVP hunt, imo.
