4 straight tourney bids and 2 sweet sixteens. i would say a pretty good job. Have a feeling another 5 years we will be looking for another coach.

when Sendek was at State he was held on too long-the AD at the time would not pull the trigger, in his latter years it got a little contentious with fans on his radio show, he finally left on his own, ESPN and others commented what does NC State expect, just be a token team and know your place, as a proud University they weren't satisfied with results and moved on, unfortunately a hasty sentimental hire was made and turned out be disastrous, when Debbie hired Mark G it was a reach but he did improve recruiting and moved the program forward but he to has reach a ceiling and it is time to make the next step just make sure it is a correct one or program could be set back. I would like to thank Mark for what he has done over his tenure. This all began when the BOG set the program back with Todd Turner and Les Robinson and it has taken over 20 years, they hurt the program worse than if they had gotten the death penalty (more like life without parole) hopefully the Pack is getting a reprieve!

That's exactly what I thought, T - that the Pack would show up, enough to win. They did make it interesting a few times, trimming the lead to six, but too little, too late. I can't say Carolina played that well, either. I wonder if we'll ever find out what went wrong. During the Doherty years at Carolina, it was very clear what went wrong, but at State, it's a mystery.

Go Pack. Something is telling me that the Pack will show tonight, but Roy owns them no matter who is coaching. I will be checking scores from the phone.

Yow will be under a tremendous amount of pressure to fire Gott, so I don't envy her! This is starting to remind me of the Doherty years at Carolina - lopsided losses, players giving up (although players like Abu and Dennis Smith haven't given up). It is a mess, so there must be things going on behind closed doors that we don't know about. I always thought Gott was a players coach, I thought the guys genuinely liked him.

I agree with you that the right coach can turn things around at State. The wheels have only come off this year, it's not like it's been years and years of issues. I see where Archie would be a top choice, and while he seems happy and successful at Dayton, the coaching job at State would be a jump up the rung of coaching jobs.

all the evidence that B. Lutz was the glue, kind of reminds me of Chuck's situation with asst coaches- contrary to all of the espn experts (trans = no it alls) the State job is a top job for the right person -strong personality, good recruiter, Duke was a mess prior to 1980 good years here and there, right coach can turn it around, Pack needs to find that coach-sorry to say Gott is not him, Archie may or may not be that guy but some soul searching has to be done-if its not Debbie's last year maybe she needs to rethink and do what is best for State and bring in the new guy and let him move forward!! just a bunch of pennies for my thoughts!

I've heard many times that all AD's have the "short list" in the top drawer of their desk. What I don't understand is that Gott did such a good job his first four years, getting State into the NCAAT. Last year's absence was understandable - hehad such a short bench due to injuries and the last minute exit of players. But this year??? Too much talent for this record. If you're right about this year being Yow's last, Gott better be at Kinkos making copies of his resume. If Yow is there till 2019, yes, she does have a difficult decision, as does any coach she may make an offer to (if she decides to go that way). It's not desirable to take on a coaching gig when you know the AD is halfway out the door.

It might be 2019 thought someone said this was her last year, if 2019 she has got a tough decision to make in a month or so. She needs to be already making a short list, Archie has to be on it, even if fruitless I would have call Greg Marshall, hopefully don't botch it

Smith is an amazing talent. He'll be ok because he's a top-five draft pick. I really thought Gott could coach, but this year, with ALL that talent - no excuses. I thought Yow was there till 2019.

State looked like Carolina at Miami two weeks ago. Just our of synch and terrible showing. It happens.

T - I did think of Petino, but thought he was younger than Roy and K and Laranaga.

Appreciate your honesty about Duke and Carolina. It's why people hate the Yankees and Pats. I'm telling you State will beat the Heels on Wednesday. It burns my Carolina Blue you-know-what to say that, too!!!

Dennis Smith Jr. Man what a talent to be wasted at State for a year. This young man can ball. I heard the game today with Wake was pitiful.

These players do not have any trust in the coaching, going one on one, forcing shots! Hope some of the big donors are watching,my understanding Debbie is retiring this year-go ahead get the next AD in line, one that can shake things up-more and more I thinks Lutz was a calming presence on the bench, Early and Moxley were recruiters were good recruiters.

Agree with ya 100% about the coaching thing. Makes all the difference in the world. Look at State in the 70's & early 80's. Had a golden opportunity after that but let it get away from 'em. They can make it back but they have to be willing to pay top $$$$ for a good coach, one who can change the culture of the program, & get back to winning consistently. A change in attitude is needed at this point. imo

Sorry guys I kept falling asleep. LOL. Hicks was a big loss. Never have got up for this game. because I'm jealous State is so far beneath these two. UCLA/Oregon was the one I was waiting on.
Heck yeah I'll be glad when K/Roy retire because maybe State can compete with them gone. LOL!!
Gunny don't forget about Pitino and his age also.

watching Duke while Capel was coaching and when K came back-if you don't believe coaches like K make a difference then so be it-I think Duke has turned the corner(thought that game was a sure loss for Duke)-State need to make a commitment and open up the pocket book-make the commitment now or settle to be a second tier team-mid level coaches are a hit and miss, thought Gott was gonna change the culture-maybe Debbie just settled-it is underground but the culture is laying dormant, getting the right coach can unearth it- as in the past the program can be as potent as ever but the right combination must be found, best thing and worst thing to happened to State was Jimmy V, he took his eye off the ball and left subordinates to handle duties and it got off path-just my 3 cents! As a Pack fan would love to see the triangle be a true triangle with all 3 teams having national relevance

Yep....saw the numbers just prior to the game. Incredible! Not surprised by it as they're 2 of the best programs all-time. That's what it's all about. Every team/program needs a rival to push them to the next level. No game I had rather watch in college hoops than Duke/UNC.

Thought Duke would win...home court advantage. The Heels have a chance to even it up later. :)

Carolina will be fine as usual..still sitting in first place after the loss. I'll take that scenario 24/7. Duke had a great night shooting but the Heels have some shooters as well in Hicks, Jackson, & Berry. Gonna hate to see K & Roy retire....it's been fun to watch over the years. Won't be the same.

Yeah, B, there's a reason this game has national interest, not just local. To see that before the game, the win/loss was the same for both schools, and the EXACT same number of points scored - just remarkable!

I didn't expect the Heels to win - Duke just has too many weapons. I was glad to see Pinson back in the lineup, but then we lose Hicks. No excuses, though, because Duke shot lights out, especially from the 3. When Allen went off in the first half, nails another three just before going into the locker room, I figured Duke would win. Add in Kennard, and then Tatum in the second half, and Duke is tough to beat and I'd say they look like Duke again. Hope the Heels can win the rematch in Chapel Hill!

In the not too distant future, the ACC is going to look very different as far as coaching goes - look at Roy, K, Boeheim, Laranago - all getting up there in years. It won't be the same when Roy and K retire.

Heck of a game. Grayson The Great dropped another 20+ on the Heels, Kennard played great as usual, Tatum stepped it up in the 2nd half & did a nice job, Jackson had a great game for UNC, both teams shot over 50% for the game, difference in the game - 3-pointers & FTs. ACC is tightening up...tourney should be fun to watch.
