Disappointed by results in ACC tour today, Pack scored 28 in first Quarter, only 30 after that, look like it was gonna high scoring

Yeah Perry was a stud at Kansas, but there are a'lot of studs in the NBA. Hilfiger, LOL!!
I didn't talk with Hansbrough. I have heard he was a little arrogant and not friendly at all. he was with the Hornets, but he isn't listed on their roster. Some are just great college players.

T - Perry Ellis is playing in the D league? I thought he was a stud at Kansas. Always liked his name. Would have been funny if he had a teammate named Tommy Hilfiger.
You talked to Hansbrough?? He's one of my all time favorites. He thoroughly enjoyed the college life. Liked seeing him stay four years. I was surprised he didn't have a better NBA career. What is he up to if not playing ball?

looking forward to ACC (womens) tournament tomorrow in Conway-will miss my 1st mens tournament in 35 years-with Pack not looking effective-the expense factor outweighs all other factors, will watch on TV, if it was in Greensboro I could justify the short trip.

I cant see him going pro, but I didn't think the kid from UK was ready either but he was a lottery pick, (Skai).
yeah something is going on with BJ and Gott, but at least he is being supportive and not sulking. Agree about his degree and about him playing overseas.
Talked to some of the guys from the Hornets D league team yesterday, Rasheed Suliaman, Prince Williams, (Raleigh, ECU), Perry Ellis, (Kansas), Young man from State that transferred from LSU. I forget his name, but he could shoot the 3.
Also Gunny your boy from UNC Psycho T, but he wasn't with the D League team.

it usually take a 7 footer a year or two to blossom, if he gets antsy and goes pro it will take him 5 years to settle in and may not maximize his potential

I think Gott and BJ have been at odds for a while. His playing time had diminished greatly, and he didn't even travel with the team for one of the games a while back.

Yeah Yurtsaven has had a hard time adjusting to the college game.

    Pack women are balling.
Why isn't BJ Anya playing? It seems like he has turned into a cheerleader. The seven footer played like a six footer last night. He doesn't go up with the ball strong enough. Weight room over the summer!!!

wonder when Gary Williams hits the talk show circuit and puts in his 2 cents-William won Natty and then into cruise cntrol-most want to blame Debbie but I think she called him on it and he got piossed-nothing will be done most of the candidates have business to take care of but will not stop the ESPN lugnuts from bringing the job up to any coach considered.

LOVED watching Syracuse win that game at the buzzer last night! What a game!

I was never a fan of Anya - acted like he won the Natty when he blocked a shot or made a basket. I think Abu is much better.
Really like Danny Manning - class all the way. Glad they beat Pitt last night, especially coming back from a 16-point deficit. Would love to see Wake in the Tourney this year.

Max - you're right - State should not settle or "know its place" in the shadow of Duke and Carolina. State is right to go after the best coach they can get. Gott was never intimidated by Duke or Carolina, nor did he make beating them his platform - he wanted to beat every team. Always liked that about him.

I believe Yow has reached out to coaches and is waiting till she can lock one in. She wouldn't have given Gott his walking papers if she didn't have a good idea who his successor would be.

I really like Marshall, but I'm hearing Miller. It just makes me upset that Anya can't get his weight under control. He played so good his first 2 years and now he is just a cheerleader.
Yeah Gunny MCcants was a head case, but UNC couldn't have won the NAT without him. Roy coached him just good enough.

What will Yow do if State goes on a run?
Manning is COY in my opinion!!

I forgot about all that talent, T. CJ was very tough to coach - kinda like McCants at Carolina. Lots of talent, but a head case. Purvis went to UCONN, I think. Warren left for the NBA. I think this was still supposed to be Gott's most talented team. Have you heard about anything going on behind closed doors? I think there must be chemistry issues. Something is rotten in Raleigh.

I heard those two exact stories, Max, and the one about the player telling an assistant coach came from Jeff Gravley, so I bet it's true. Gott tried to be a friend, and that was a mistake. Coaches should be respected, and some fear isn't bad either. I remember hearing Brady say he was afraid to let his coach down. And this is an NFL player!

whoever is the coach-Mav Rowan, Torn Dorn, Terry Henderson, Yurtseven (if they convince him to stay, M Johnson),,T Kapita, D Hicks Shaun Kirk and I think L Freeman has another year-if he convince these guys to stay, Rowan, Henderson and Freeman can be the leaders of this team, I am keeping hopes up for a positive result out of all this-heard Archie may be wanting the Ohio St job-mama may want State if so he needs to make mama happy, number 1 on the wish list is Greg Marshall, I think he makes a immediate impact-seems Mark was trying to be friends with his players and they took advantage of it. For Marshall you gotta open up the wallet and if you want a top tier team you got to be willing to spend-you can shop at Rodeo dr. or Walmart???

Gunny when Gott came aboard they had talent, CJ, Lorenzo Brown, TJ Warren, Tyler Lewis, Rodney Purvis, Richard Howell (I think for one more year), Scott Wood etc. Now you have Abu whom I call Mr. Inconsistent, Henderson and who else? Your best player will be one and done. Time to start from scratch. Man put State's offfensive players on UVA and UVA defense on State. LOL.

  • StunGunn Feb 21, 2017

Totally agree, Max. State and it's fans should shoot for the stars. If they don't, they'll never improve. Why should they settle for mediocrity? Why should State accept being second fiddle to Duke and Carolina? They shouldn't! "Know your place" is BS. State's place should be competing day in and day out on the same level as Duke and Carolina. Easier said than done, but if State doesn't at least have high standards in their coaching search, may as well keep Gottfried. Agree that he's leaving State better than when he found it. I still wonder why all that talent isn't producing better results. Must be things going on behind closed doors.

did you read that article by Al Featherson, "why does the media hate NC State"-he is a Duke guy but it is a great article-the national media is not only slamming State but are also slamming the local media also-State is a great program that unfortunately has been laying Dormant for a long time-right coach, right time and right situation can bring it back-don't think Mark G. set state back, think it is in better shape that it was prior to when he got there, I think it is in better than it has been in the last 25 years but has a ways to go- what State is trying to do -shoot for the stars, is the fabric of what this country is-what Bilas and others are saying is know your place settle for being second best-that is not in the DNA of wolfpack nation-always strive to be the best-
the more I hear about K. Keatts and Will Wade the more I like them-the Pack needs to decide, offer G Marshall or Archie the farm and be done with it (may not have to give up the whole farm for Archie)

I don't know Max - I doubt Archie's wife would flash the Wolf Pack sign, knowing how people would take it, unless she knows something. Archie loved State, and being his wife went there as well, and met Archie there, well, there's emotional ties to State. Coaching in the ACC would be a step up in the coaching world. I think it's a good sign for State.

Heard today on the Adam and Joe show that Archie Miller's wife did the "Wolfpack" sign in public. Laugh if you want, but I think that means something. She and Archie met at State. If he wasn't seriously considering accepting the job, why would his wife be flashing the Wolfpack sign? By the very fact that Gottfried has already been given his walking papers means (at least to me) that Debbie has reached out to coaches.

Greg McDermott, Cuonzo Martin names have surfaced but interesting is Scott Drew and Andy Enfield-Drew may be wanting to get away from Baylor with the problems surrounding the university, Enfield field has done better at USC than I thought he would, the Pack would be a step up over Southern Cal. I see where Calipari has open his mouth-the usual suspects Bilas and Goodman of ESPN-Bilas says its a good job but not a great job-Mike Bray the NCSU job is a great job-I will take Bray's observation-it is a 14k gold job that needs a good polishing

Have been checking around - top choices for the Pack new coach
    1-a Archie Miller -Dayton
    1-b Gregg Marshall-Wichita
    2-Chris Holtmann-Butler
    3-Will Wade -VCU
    4-Mick Cronin-Cinc.
5-Kevin Keatts UNC_W out of left field 6-Vinnie Del Negro 7-Levelle Moton NCCU 8-King Rice Monmouth wild card- 9-Tom Crean Indiana 10-Pat Kelsey Winthrop 11- Chris Collins Northwestern other will emerge- Archie, Gregg or Chris Holtmann would be great hires Tom Crean is Interesting, could be wanting out of Indiana Keatts Kelsey and Wade would be young up and comers but sometimes they don't work out, Cronin is simliar to Crean-Why!! maybe its to soon to hire another NCSU point guard, Rice, may not want him or he may not want to come- Chris Collins is interesting-done wonders with Northwestern- would he want to make the move-Duke has had two former NCSU players as their coaches-it more interchangeable than NCSU/UNC soon the unraveling will start-

Coach Capel and the entire Capel family are loved in our hometown of Southern Pines!!! Remember the old days growing up on New Hampshire Ave like it was yesterday. Good idea about Debbie taking an advisory role and let a new AD hire the new coach. Coach would feel better about being hired by the AD that was going to stick around.

State did make a game of it in the second half. Dame is a good team. Wake gave Duke all they could handle. Didn't realize that the last time Wake won in Cameron was when Tim Duncan played.

I think he is doing it for the players, don't have a problem with it, Pack can't do anything about it now until season is over, it is a little different in coaching, we can't make a move until NCAA's are at least into the second week, seen some encouragement from M. Johnson, he look good, Pack didn't play that bad N.D. was on fire from 3's-not a lot of motivation from guys that know they are gone next year - Hicks I think is gonna be good player but will take time, Kapita was hustling his butt off. Just gonna wait out the process and hope for something encouraging out of all this! would love to see Debbie step down and take an advisory role tlll she retires, let a new AD pull the strings on this

saw a photo of Herb the other day, Herbie has gotten big, he is coaching at Santa Clara. This is Debbie first major fire since she arrived, she had to fire women's BB coach but it seems there is an upgrade there, I liked Tom O'Brien but he had a ceiling of 8-9 wins ceiling, Mike O'Cain was held to long and it took the chancellor Maryanne Fox to clean that deal up- I still have hope for Dave Doeran. A lot of Fowler hires fell into his -Chuck wanted the job and O'Brien called inquiring about the job so it fell into his lap, Sydney was sitting there just waiting when all else failed, then when Debbie got here the damage with Sydney was done, had to fall back to Mark Gottfried, maybe this time we can get it right. The nucleus for a good team is in place-L Freeman, T Henderson, M Rowan, T Dorn M Johnson T Kapita and Maybe Yurkseven can be talked into staying, a decent recruit hopefully will stay the course, the new coach will have to recruit in house first and then move on.

Open us the pocketbook -yes. Cal no-he is not going nowhere-Buzz Williams has proved to be a treasure-Archie and Greg Marshall seem to be top two, there is probably a five name list, they have probably been contacted back door, it will a media frenzy for 3 or 4 weeks, Archie got his hands full and a job to do, Marshall too, personally I drive a Brinks truck and camp out around Jay Wright's house but that's only a wishful imagination, gonna be an interesting February and March-not gonna get negative will let the local sports clowns do that, if they have to settle like last two times then I will disappointed, hope they can win 2-3 of the last five

Losing to Wake by 30, unc by 51and 24 and others badly have put the stamp on this team, it's hard to understand why? Talent is there but chemistry has always been an issue, this team struggled early but I thought they would mesh but hasn't happened, may be wrong but I still think Bobby Lutz was a big loss to this team. Moving on is the best solution. When Everette was dominating UNC, they said lets get someone that can help us compete, there are coaches out there ready and able to go head to head with K and Roy. State is in a better place overall than it was when Mark got here, he has hit a ceiling and I think finding that coach to carry the Pack to the next level is the key, I will stay positive that they can get this done-GO PACK

Yeah I know they can be beat, but the recruiting is the big question. Pack may get 2 or 3 top players every few years while UNC/Duke will get that many ever year. Roy and K aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
