i think Gott a players coach in regards if you were that certain player, some good players over the years seem to be in his dog house for one reason or another, there is probably more to the stories of Rodney Purvis, Thomas Dethay and some other high profile transfers, I think Lennard Freeman and Terry Henderson will hold the key to how good the pack is next year-haven't heard of any transfers yet, maybe Keatts can keep em from leaving-Smith is gone Abu may test waters, Yurtseven could return-we will see for sure when recruiting season opens up in a couple of weeks

I've heard about sling - thanks Max. I just don't want to go through a lot of gyrations to watch a show. But I don't want a cable bill that costs a fortune either. So far, Spectrum is worse than Time Warner, and I didn't think that was possible! I'd think of an HG antenna, but we don't have great line of sight where we live - even our phone signal is very weak. Hope we find something. Thanks for the recommendation, Max.

I think Keats will do a good job at State. Gott seemed like a players coach, but there must have been a lot going on behind closed doors that we'll never know about.

look into sling I was told you can get you about 30 includes ESPN 1 and 2r for about 25 -30 bucks, direct has called about a dozen times wanted know how come I dropped them, get letters we want you back, I am finished with them, after tomorrow night don't any of them till football season, saw where the Pack got local product Lavar Bats, he had been recruited by Bobby Lutz and Orlando Early and was ready to sign-Mark G wouldn't pull the trigger replacing Thomas Allen with Batts is an upgrade

Well, our cable bill with Spectrum just doubled. Doubled! Not sure what we're going to do, but we're not about to pay a fortune when we don't even watch that many channels. I would want the basic channels plus the ESPNs and NBC Sports for Dan Patrick's show.

I like Jeff Gravley. Oh the afternoon boys actually advertise themselves as "liberal".

I know they put that morning show on the shelf, what is on in the AM now, the whole wral community, tv and radio has become so liberal I do not even watch them any more-I dumped Direct tv and now just watch over the air station, I can get about 25 station with just an antenna, lots of old shows on, can also hook up my computer to tv and get all sorts of entertainment, gonna hook sling next year for football season, Gravely doesn't seem to fit in with the new age sports coverage, listening to Steve Logan a couple years ago when he would be on the afternoon, seem like he wanted to say these bozo's have no clue about sports-wonder if the word bozo will pass muster for language

Well I hate that UNC-W poached Roy's assistant CB McGrath. Moton deserves offers from other schools, but that wouldn't be good for Central if he left the program.

Max - the afternoon boys don't even take calls anymore. Just as well, because if the caller doesn't agree with them, they mock the caller.

haven't listen to the show in while but I remember Gold took issue with a couple of callers one time, back when you could comment on their articles he responded to a few responses, I don't think he likes criticism mainly because he is so arrogant, Moton might be a good choice for UNC-W I think he will have to leave Central and go to a mid-major like UNC-W then maybe take the next step-you are right some of the people posting w attitude probably are the kind that are bold when sitting at a keyboard all alone-I have also noticed that when you post, they censor some words that are not all that bad but radio guys especially that old morning crew would go out of their way to use profanity sometime -strange rules do as we say not as we do

Bob Holliday and Gravley are excellent writers, and I enjoy their work. I don't think Gold cares what we think or write about him, but Ovies definitely seems to have thin skin. Gold writes well IMHO.

T - totally agree that stomp was on purpose and Jaylen Rose was right - if one of the Fab Five did it, they would have been ejected. I used to hate Laetner, but not worth the effort now. I will always hate that little punk Grayson Allen, though.

Agree about Moton - not fair, but his loss in being recognized and receiving job offers is Central's gain, because they get to keep a terrific coach.

I bet we would be surprised if we met some of the posters in person - bet they wouldn't be so bold. Not sure what their day job is, but when some post here, they're immature jack wagons.

I think some of the writers especially Ovies and Gold didn't like the criticism leveled at them-there are a couple of good writers Bob Holliday has some good articles Gravely also-it is amazing to me the NCAA is gonna critique the handling of HB2 repeal when did happen the NCAA has legislative powers (also NBA, NFL) Keatts if the players already there stay then Keatts will have a good Nucleus of players, maybe get a recruit or two or tranfer and go full bore next year recruiting

  • Maxwell Silver III Mar 31, 2017

there were a lot of people that didn't think that much about Keatts because him being at UNC-W, nothing against Archie but what Keatts has done is just as impressive-the more I read about him the more I liked him, heard the way Wade left for LSU, maybe paying Marshall double what Keatts get and calling it a home run hire-I thinks we got an outstanding hire now its up to him stretch it to a home run

Yeah guys I saw where the kid from Garner opened up his options again, but Keatts I think will surprise a lot of people you just have tom give him time. I listened to the interview with Coach Moton last week. Coach didn't hold back and everything he said was true. Coaches at HBCU schools don't get the recognized because of the school they are coaching at. Danny Hurley also told him if his last name was Hurley he would be making millions right now. It's really sad. The new UMass coach that was just hired Levelle said he was undefeated against him. LOL.
Good Ole K. Duke fans praise this guy. Laetner's brother gave it to him, but we all know and Laetner also that the stomp on the UK guy was on purpose. Like Jalen Rose said, if that would have been a member of the Fab five that did the stomp we all know what would have happened. As for him picking on Hurley. Hurley was so easy to pick on. Although a great player, but man can could he whine. King Rice owned him. It was too funny. LOL.

WRAL used to let us comment on any article, but I think all the trolls with their nasty-grams caused WRAL to change their policies. Hardly anyone comments anymore because of the potential backlash with your name right out there.

Keats is an up and coming coach IMHO. Time will tell, but he seems like a very positive, driven guy. It will be interesting to see who stays and who bails on State's roster. A lot of players did transfer during Gott's tenure.

As for the negative people, yeah, some are obsessed and post all day long, using different screen names. It's fortunate we have this forum to post on. We may pull for different schools, but at least we're all respectful of each other's opinions, and can discuss sports in a civil manner. Some people take the "smack talk" too literally. Trash talk is fun when done right, but mean-spirited posters take it too far. To each his own.

I wanted to make a comment on HB2 article but WRAL will not allow you exercise freedom of speech without having a facebook account do not do facebook-open up your comment section for all articles--the NCAA is not part of N.C. government yet they try to control laws in our state-coach K can put his comment where the sun doesn't shine, he was more interested in getting to play in Greensboro-

Steve Lappis has been on all the talk shows this week on sirius, he may have even been on Glenns show, listening to him it is easy to understand why nobody is hiring him- on ESPN and all the talk shows you can listen to a plethora of coaches that have been fired and not rehired, Greenberg, Gaudio and many others-I may have it wrong but I got a good feeling about Keven Keatts, I have noticed on forums, packpride inside carolina many others all the negativity is usually controlled by a small number of people-many use different screen names but you tell by reading there continuous post

ESPN had a special about Laetner - maybe a 30 for 30. It gave insight into why he is the way he is. He has an older brother who absolutely tormented him when they were growing up, like he did to Bobby Hurley. I never knew he was awful to Hurley. He didn't grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth - he worked hard to get where he is. Laetner is so soft spoken, it belies the competitive, win at any cost player he was.

Agree about Grant Hill, like him a lot.

T - I started to write about that interview, but ran out of the 1,000 characters we're allowed to.use here. That was pure emotion, and he even said that people thought they didn't care about the team. Clearly, they did. As much as I love March Madness, I hate to see players in tears. They're kids. It must rip their hearts out when they list a game like that. Of course Monk and Fox will dry their tears with million dollar NBA contracts, but still hate to see kids so distraught

I guess time has faded my memory, but I don't remember Grant Hill being a punk. A lot of Carolina fans hate me for this, but I always liked Bobby Hurley. He had this rumpled look about him that was opposite of Mr. GQ Laetner. And he never gave up. Liked Hus grit. Hate the way his career ended so tragically. Ditto Jay Williams. Really like him. Speaking of one and done's. I agree most are their because they have to be, but did anyone see Monk/Bam interview? Those guys were crying so hard they could hardly speak.

Gunny Luke has been knocking in jumpers all year. I wasn't surprised at all.
Max what I can't understand is why Richard Howell isn't in the NBA, but guys like Lance Thomas, Kyle Singlar, Ryan Kelly etc continue to be on NBA rosters. Big Rich is a work horse.

My favorite from Duke Jay Williams. Great guy and great player. After watching I hate Laettner I see why K likes Grayson Allen. K said after he stomped the UK player are you stupid or crazy and put him right back into the game. All about winning!!!

Also Gunny with Berry already on a bad ankle why did he continue not to wear high top sneakers? Buddy of mine pointed it out to me.

  • Maxwell Silver III Mar 29, 2017
    Bench Warmer

Duke has had a lot of spoiled little punks but one player I always respected was Grant Hill, the final I think could go either of 4 different ways, the Oregon team that beat Kansas will have to show up saturday, Gonzaga has faced a defense as tough as USC against WVU but who knows lots of things can change before a game during the game and especially at the end of a game, hope the refs will not call a tight game-let them play and don't call a foul unless it is a dead on foul don't call one if you think you saw it.

  • StunGunn Mar 29, 2017
    Sports Legend

South Carolina and Gonzaga might be feel good stories, but I'm pulling for the Heels big time. Would love to see them win, especially after the heart breaker last year.

T - I thought Maye threw up a brick - didn't see that going through. I bit my nails down to bloody stumps in that game! I can see Carolina winning it all, but I can just as easily see them losing to Oregon. Berry is playing with two bad ankles, and it's affected his shot and ability to defend.

Yeah, T, Duke lost another big man - Obi. He didn't get much playing time, and while Duke is losing a lot, they're probably just reloading, like Cal does every year. Not a fan of the one and dones, not at all. They're only there because they have to be, due to the NBA rule, but all they want to do is show off for the NBA scouts.

I wonder if K would rather that little punk beotch Grayson Allen just leave, although he did get his game back. It's all about winning for K.

  • Maxwell Silver III Mar 29, 2017
    Bench Warmer

maybe I am wrong but if you get good 4-star that will probably stay for at least 3 but will get better each year they progress, give me a Richard Howell, Lorenzo Brown, Cat Barbour for 3 three years every time -Dennis Smith was a great player but I think he lost concept of team play a lot of times-gotta feel good for Gonzaga and USC would be great for college BB for a first time winner

  • Toddler10-21 Mar 28, 2017

Yeah Allen is a straight up you know what. I wonder if k really hope he leaves? Heard that Giles is leaving also. I never would have thought K would start the recruitment of one and done's. I guess K and Cal have proven they can win with them, but every year you really have to start over. All the final four teams are all upperclassman. Guess Ole Roy is fine with not getting them because they really could be working on a back to back ship.

if you don't play great on your first outing K will put you on the bench-he doesn't take the time to develope, he wants you ready to be an all-star off the bench, K has had his share of transfers over the years, on Gottfried he must have played favorites during his years at State, some players loved his some moved on (a lot ) Keatts may not have been the sexy hire but the more hear about him the more I like him, he must have impressed on his interview. I heard the figure on Marshall was around 5 m but then it was not an automatic yes, heard Will Wade was not impressive in the feed back they got back on him, had State waited they may have been able to woo Archie but decided not to play that game-think it was the best decision.

  • Maxwell Silver III Mar 23, 2017

Duke has always had one of those players-remember Danny Meagher (maybe misspelled) on thru Laettner and now the latest with Allen -just something about Allen-a smugness about him if K had any guts he would really suspend him but wins are more important

  • StunGunn Mar 23, 2017
    Sports Legend

I lost a lot of respect for K with the way he handled the Grayson Allen mess. He cares more about winning than doing the right thing.

If Jeter was injured, it was from all that pine in his rear after spending the season on the bench. Obvious he wasn't as talented as others. Hope Allen leaves for the NBA. And he can take Kennard with him. Dude pats his hair after every basket ( must be wearing a rug?).

  • Maxwell Silver III Mar 23, 2017
    Bench Warmer

i will give K credit he is the all time wins leader- if he had a group of say 2/ 4 stars and 5/, 3 stars would he still win as often -what he has mainly done is build Duke into a brand and he gets mostly 5 star talent, hopefully K.Keatts can draw in good talent, being at Hargrave I think he can judge talent, K may try to run for some kind of office, i will do my part to help his opponent!

  • Toddler10-21 Mar 23, 2017

Speaking of K did you hear the excuse he gave for Jeter leaving? Injuries? LOL! Dude was over hyped and he knew a new stable of 5 stars are on the way. Man Duke cried a lot the other night. I don't know who was worse Kennard or jefferson? K will be there another 15 years. Liked Lefty also.

  • Toddler10-21 Mar 23, 2017

Yeah I liked Lefty also. Funny that K said Jeter's minutes were cut short due to injuries. No K you know as well as i do that Jeter didn't live up to the hype. He is transferring because a new stable of 5 stars are on the way he knows he will see even more pine. I think K will have on a pair of depends and coach from a wheelchair before he leaves Duke. Boy did Duke players and coaches do a lot of crying against USC. I thought Jefferson was going to get a Tech.

  • Maxwell Silver III Mar 23, 2017
    Bench Warmer

K wanted to be in New Jersey-UNC will root for a team they hate if that team is playing Duke or State, it is a vicious circle in the triangle K is a great coach maybe the greatest of all time (which is myth in itself)but his ego has got the best of him in the last years, thinks he owns Duke but when his time come they will him give a statue and a watch and put him out to pasture, when his career is finished will he be bitter-ans: yes I think he will- I think of Lefty when he was coaching, I truly believed enjoyed every minute he coach and with his aw shucks attitude even as opposing fan you just couldn't dislike the guy-shame we don't have coaches like that any more. K has a show on sirius radio that has got to be one of the most boring shows I have a every heard-5 minutes will put you to sleep-ought to be removed -hazardous to driving

Watched Survive and Advance again yesterday. State traveled over 6000 miles with zero complaints. Duke fans traveled 3 hours and they were complaining about home court advantage. K said it best "we haven't played a team that plays defense like that all year". What was the excuse when you lost to Mercer in Raleigh? What funny during that game was watching the UNC fans root for USC. LOL!!

I watched part of the UNC-W game on Thursday, and I was impressed. Keats is young, and he's familiar with the area, so he knows the snake pit he's getting into with Roy and K, and he wasn't afraid to accept the challenge. Gott wasn't either, and you want that in a coach - you want a coach who isn't intimidated by playing in the same sandbox as two HOF'ers, and Keats seems up to the challenge.
