+1 Agree - do it the right way or don't get in.

T - Pete Rose is being excluded for gambling on games his team played, I think?

I don't think any player who knowingly cheated should ever be allowed in. Several players showed up on the "cheat sheet" following a lengthy investigation into steroids. If a player has to juice to get it done, his numbers don't really matter. There are many others who choose to do it the right way. They may not hit 60 bombs but their numbers are legit.

  • Toddler10-21 Jan 26, 2018

Yeah that's the reason neither will get in and a'lot of others. I still think Pete Rose not being in is a joke!!!

Chipper well deserved. I would like to know who didn't vote Jeter in on the first ballot a few years ago? Don't understand Bonds or Clemons, both were already HOF'ers.

They were winning ugly the past few games, and the D saved their bacon in some games. Cam started the season slow, seemed to find his stride, and then regressed. Last week was his worst in recent memory. I think the Panthers realized they have to let him run if they want to win, but if his passes are as bad as they were last week, even his legs won't save the day. It's unfortunate that Ted Ginn now plays for the Saints, they let Benjamin go, Olsen was injured for a chunk of the year, and they lost Byrd for the season. Cam did lose a lot of his targets, but his accuracy was dreadful last week, and I'm not sure if it mattered who he had to throw to, he was so far off the mark.

Agree about Luke - one of the best, and the NFL needs more players like him on and off the field.

Not sure why RW doesn't get the credit he deserves - maybe because Seattle had a bad year. Sometimes I wonder what games/players the ESPN analysts are watching.

  • Toddler10-21 Jan 6, 2018

All Bradshaw had to do was score 10 with that defense, but he did put up numbers in 3 of those super bowls.

Yeah I remember that about Brees and the being done thing. Its all about the stats when it comes to being great.

Depends on the system you're in. If Seattle let RW toss it around all the time, his numbers would probably be similar. I'm thinking Drew is way taller than RW, by about an inch...lol. Drew won a SB in New Orleans of all places, has thrown for 70,000 yards & definitely deserves to be called great. Remember when the Chargers told Drew he was finished? How'd that go? Nothing against Rivers but one of 'em has a ring, the other is right there with Dan Fouts.....lotta yards but no prize. With that said, Rivers is better than Fouts.

  • Toddler10-21 Jan 6, 2018
    Sports Legend

No B you have to throw for 5K yards and 40 or TD passes a year to get credit for being great. Ben Eli, Rivers don't get the credit for being great because they don't put up those type of stats every year. Russell is bigger than Brees, but Brees is considered great.

Missed the "RW" comment. Not sure why he's not consistently mentioned with the best. Seems to be very underrated, imo. Was looking at Russell's career numbers and he's completing 64% of his throws, has a TD/pick ratio of 161 to 56 (incredible), has a SB ring, played in 2 SBs, & has "quietly" put together an amazing career through 6 seasons. Deserves far more credit than he seems to get. I honestly believe the "experts" don't want to give him credit due to his size. That would absolutely destroy everything they've always preached about QBs & size. Remember, the "experts" have a blueprint on players/positions and they're determined to stick with it. RW is clearly the exception to the rule but a great QB, imo, and future HOF'er provided he doesn't tank all of a sudden.

A cautious Luke at 90% is still better than 99% of the LBs in the league. Great player who still had 125 stops despite the concussion stuff.

Thought I heard a former NFL player say weeks ago that they were winning ugly. It always starts in the trenches but Cam Newton can't have a terrible game throwing the ball or it's over & vacation time for the Panthers. Looked to me like some players had checked out on the reg. season. They did not look like they were playing for a division title, imo.

If you told me at the beginning of the season that the Panthers would go 11-5 and be vying for possible NFC South Champs in week 17, I'd take it for sure, especially after the disastrous year they had last year. They did stink it up at times, and how do you lose to Chicago when Trubisky completes FOUR passes??? I just don't like the trend I see, and if Cam doesn't get more accurate with his passes, his legs can't save the game. Kuechly is still Captain America, but he isn't the same as he was before the last concussion. Can't blame him for being cautious, and he still runs the D. Thomas Davis has been playing like someone 10 years younger. Love his grit.

Agree. The Panthers can take down the Saints if they go out & execute. Gurley had a great season, had over 2000 rushing/receiving yards. He did sit out the final game while Brady played. I think Gurley gets the nod & if he does, given the season he had, easy to say he earned it.

LOL.......If you play long enough, you're going to have games where you basically stink up the joint. It happens! A short memory always seems to help players move on.

I'm sure Stewart was missed but it wouldn't have made a difference, imo. The Panthers seemed like they were just going through the motions, (expecting a Saints win maybe) no rushing attack aside from Cam's yardage, 3 picks & missed opportunities, lost the TOP battle, etc. Luke & TD did their thing as usual but Ryan still dropped over 300 on 'em. Just one game though....Cam's going to have to play very well Sunday for the Panthers to have a shot. Because of his accuracy issues, I'd go with screens/dumps early & often, mix in some draws (use Cam's wheels), hopefully open things up, see how it goes & what adjustments the Saints make assuming they execute.

Agree. The Saints should win and pretty much owned them during the reg. season. When I look at all the stuff that's happened this season, the Panthers have had a very good season. Riverboat Ron has had to deal with a lot of stuff throughout the season but they've managed to move along for the most part.

Ugly game & Olsen seemed very frustrated at times. Before the most recent concussion stuff, Luke always seemed to be on the attack. "Seems" like he's being a little more cautious lately. Still playing well but it seems like he's not attacking like we're used to seeing.

Anything can happen in the playoffs. Panthers are capable of winning a ugly game. Brees has 2 good backs behind him. B Brady had to play unlike Gurley because there was nothing for the Rams to play for. Brady has won enough let Tarboro's own Gurley win the MVP. Didn't like Ben saying he wanted to play the Jags because he threw 5 picks against them early in the season. IMO he is making it personal. If he throws 5 tds' and 0 picks and Steelers still lose then what?

it not being said, I think Newton has probably rub some teammates the wrong way-Smitty, Benjaman and probably some others, he has coddled since day 1 especially by Rivera, when he wins he comes to press conference looking like a 70's piimp out some of the movies in the day, loses he drowns his head in a hoodie

  • StunGunn Jan 2, 2018

Mitt - you bring up good points about Stewy - his absence as well as his lack of productivity this season - and Fozy and Artis-Payne haven't been stellar as well. That said, Gronk could have been on the roster, and the way Cam was throwing high and wide, I don't know if it mattered who his receivers were. Terrible day all around. Olsen looked frustrated all game.

The Panthers Organization hasnn't taken care of Cam (injuries and surrounding him with better talent, etc.). Plenty of blame to go around.

All that said, Cam has never conducted himself in college or the Pros the way Baker Mayfield has. Cam has never grabbed his you-know-what and shouted expletives. Cam has sulked, and not always been professional, but he's never been mean spirited. The Georgia player who told Mayfield to "humble himself" ought to practice what he preaches. I think Mayfield will be taken down more than a few notches when he plays on Sundays, deservedly so.

  • mittnfriends Jan 2, 2018

I don't disagree with anything that's been said here about Mayfield, but did you hear the Georgia player telling him to humble himself? The same guy said, "I carry myself the same way, but humble yourself". All types of ignorance with that guy. Admitted hypocrisy and to tell a former walk-on turned Heisman winner to humble himself says more about Davin Bellamy than it does Mayfield.

We'll see if Mayfield can fare better than Manziel.

    LoL!!!

I haven't heard much talk about the absence of Jonathan Stewart in that game. It in no way absolves Cam and his receivers, and Stewy hasn't been terribly effective this season, but I believe his presence was missed. Artis-Payne and Whitaker have a combined 25 touches for 113 yards this season, so their ineffectiveness was no surprise.

Aside from his inaccurate throws, was Cam throwing to the wrong spots or were his receivers not running the right routes? I see at least he and Olsen getting back on the same page this week. I love seeing Bersin making big plays (I think he's had a key 3rd-down conversion in each of the last 3 games).

At this point; Stewart is no Ingram, Mccaffery is no Kamara, Funchess is no M. Thomas/Ginn Jr., and the defenses are just about a wash; so, you know what that means! SuperCam or bust. We shall see...

  • StunGunn Jan 2, 2018

Agree, Max - don't like his antics at all. His skills may not translate that well into the Pros, and his behavior certainly won't. Some team will take him, probably in the first round, but he won't be the first QB taken. All that said, that was one terrific game! The Clemson/,Bama game was a let down in comparison. So, the SEC can claim to be the kings of football again with Georgia and Alabama in the title game. Alabama's D will slow down Georgia's offense, but can they control the Dawgs enough to win - that's the question. I'd rather see Georgia win than 'Bama.

Don't see the Saints losing. Not sure it matters who the Panthers would play, considering how they looked yesterday. Have to admit the Bucs gave the Saints all they could handle.

Don't know who I'd go to for MVP. probably Brady. He'll never get it, but RW is responsible for like 95% of the ' Hawks offense, so he deserves recognition for sure.

That was one ugly game, B. Olsen looked disgusted most of the game. I know I was! I expected Atlanta to win, by at least a TD, but I didn't expect the Panthers to throw up all over themselves either. TD showed up big time. Kuechly missed a few tackles, but still directed the D.

if NC States offenses returns intact from last year, they lose J-Sam and S. Louis, all young receivers are back-solid core -Harmon, Meyers, CJ Riley, Emezie, Hines and Gallaspie are back with edition of Person and Pennix, most of the O.line is back, Finley returning would solidify the offense, will probably get Leary some playing time too. Defense will be just about all new but there are some solid guys ready for their turn -2018 will be interesting.
