Bobby Knight was a great coach, a little salty and tough, but majority of his players loved him, I think he cared about his players after their career was over, he wasn't afraid to back a reporter in a corner which I loved, sports reporters could ask some dum questions!
— Posted by Maxwell Silver III
Agree with ya Max. He treated the media the way they needed to be treated in certain situations. Ask a dumb question & it was on with Knight. lol

Reminds me of the way Belichick treats reporters. Some of their questions may be dumb, but they have to ask certain questions about injuries, and he just deadpans his response. I remember questions about Gronk last year, and Belichick saying the team's medical staff handles injuries and how "I don't make medical decisions and the doctors don't call football plays. We have a good thing going on here". It was hilarious and vintage Belichick.
— Posted by StunGunnI really enjoy it when players & coaches respond to some of the silliness by making them look foolish. Makes me laugh.

I think Clemson has backed into one of best football coaches around, there were some that didn't like the hire, there are a lot of power 5 teams that would fire their coach on the spot if they could get Dabo.

never will forget the game face question, it seem like he was just baiting them knowing one of them would ask a dum question, lot of people didn't like Steve Spurrier but I liked his honesty, if he lost he would own up and say we got our tails kicked.
— Posted by Maxwell Silver IIIThe ol' Ball Coach was one of the best. Bear Bryant is arguably the greatest ever, imo.

You're right Gunny. I heard Kobe and Lebron once say that they love K and I would of loved to play for him in college. That's all high school kids need to hear coming from Kobe and Lebron. Like you said Gunny I do respect him, but he is easy to dislike along with Saban. For some reason I liked K's mentor Bobby Knight. Go figure.
— Posted by Toddler10-21I liked Bob Knight because he was a, "what you see is what you get" kind of person/coach, one of the all-time greats as a coach & a personal favorite.

I also think K coaching the USA team has an impact for Duke.
— Posted by Toddler10-21
I Agree. At first, it seemed K's coaching Team USA was hurting Duke, because it divided his attention, but then it seemed to pay dividends by giving K and Duke a lot of exposure. I don't like K, but I do respect his coaching Team USA, and it can't be easy going from coaching college ball to coaching NBA players. K did do a great job handling the egos as well as the x's and o's and it seemed like the players liked and respected him.
— Posted by StunGunnTakes a different kind of coach to be able to manage those egos but he's able to make it work. Plus, that stuff helps Duke with recruiting, imo. Agree with ya 100% about the exposure.

No way k will get accused of any wrong doings. He will comment like the rest, I didn't know. Know a few Duke fans, (Basketball fans). They tell me that Capel is the one getting all the recruits. My response, Who did he recruit at Oklahoma besides Blake Griffin and wasn't he ran out of town? K does it all at Duke, but they don't seem to get it.
— Posted by Toddler10-21+1....Capel plays a role but it's K & Duke. Doesn't take too much convincing to land a recruit. Kinda like the Crimson Tide. HS players are beating down the doors to go to Alabama & a few others.

wonder if the torch will spread to Mike-oh thats right he has a flame proof suit
— Posted by Maxwell Silver III
I thought of Mike. He's been getting the one-and-dones lately, and I think it very might have something to do with the "heavy handshakes" more than K becoming the King the fast track to the NBA. But, yeah, he has a kevlar suit - bullet proof and flame retardant. But the FBI may have special bullets and fire to melt even the mighty K.

Yeah I'm sure Cal hasn't learned his lesson. seems to me these UK kids want to go to UK because at least 4 are leaving for the NBA every year.
I think a lot of this starts with this AAU and Prep school stuff. I have never liked it. Go to your home based school and play ball in your local parks with friends like the old days.
— Posted by Toddler10-21Totally agree about the AAU and Prep School. I think a lot of AAU coaches will be implicated as well.

All of these corrupt coaches need to be held accountable. Glad to see the FBI go after them. Pitino and guys like him are a joke. Kick 'em all out and start over. What about the guy @ Kentucky? How many programs has he gotten in trouble?
— Posted by DIAMONDBISHOP
Like Jeff Gravley said, "there's a lot of coaches with sweaty upper lips". The FBI is reviewing the ties Nike has to schools, and we all know that could have huge implications.
I bet Coach Calipari is nervous (yeah - he left a trail of schools with sanctions/probations).
— Posted by StunGunnGiven his history, won't be surprised if we're reading about him soon.

— Posted by Toddler10-21Cal has been making a mockery of college basketball, what if a kid is a lock for the NBA but gets hurt toward the end of his freshman season and its career ending, Cal has been telling him he will be a millionaire in a few months, he is not going to class at the end-this kid is screwed cause of Cal is filling his head with illusions of being a multi millionaire-Cal doesn't care, he is of no use to him now!

If any coach is doing his job, he has got to know what is going in every element, think there are shady things going on we do not want to know about- I have said one of best things to happened to NC State basketball was Jim Valvano, he also was one of the worst, after he won the NCAA, he became very popular and established JTV enterprise, kept his eye off the ball let others take charge, he wanted another NCAA bad and let recruiting slip into some bad situations, great personality he was.

Pitino has to go. He says he didn't know. Yeah right. just like he didn't know about the escorts. Sorry Gunny but I really think Roy knew something about the scandal at UNC also.
— Posted by Toddler10-21T - I think Roy knew as well. McCants went from facing academic probation to the honor roll??? Toy brought his academic liaison guy from Kansas to Chapel Hill, then the guy is gone. Roy was smart enough to put enough layers between him and the academic advisor to be able to claim plausible deniability. The NCAA no longer accepts that and slaps a "failure to monitor" charge on a coach claiming that excuse.
Once again, the kids are left holding the bag. Kids who committed to the schools found guilty of wrong doing should be allowed to transfer without a waiting period. -

So the news broke yesterday about the FBI's two-year investigation into corruption in collegiate basketball. There has to be a lot of coaches sweating it out, as Miami and L'Ville are already implicated. We all like the tasty product of college basketball, but it's a sausage factory, and some of what goes on behind the scenes is being exposed, and it's ugly. We all know sausage is made from pigs, but do we want to see how it's made?
I knew there was corruption, but this sheds a new light on how pervasive it is, and it extends to the NBA. The "heavy handshakes", shoe deals, agents, etc. What are your thoughts?
